The more I hear about Gates' views on this topic, the more I have to conclude he's an Iranian mole. In his memoirs, Dick Cheney related how he was furious with Gates for undercutting Bush by independently telling the Saudis that the U.S. would not hit Iranian nuke sites. Gates' argument is total nonsense. It is as if he expects us to believe that Iran is just sort of halfway trying to get nukes, but if we hit them, then they'll start trying REALLY hard. What b.s. They are trying as hard as they can NOW. Their regime can't hate us any more than they do NOW. And those sites CAN be taken out. I hope Mossad finds Gates' Swiss bank account stuffed with Iranian money and inserts a virus to zero it out.
