zionist forever   (10.09.12)
Israel likes to think of itself as a major player in the space business but it doesn't want to fund it. The budget of the ISA is $6 million a year for research & development which is criminal considering space is the future. Obviously they cannot be given a NASA style budget or enough to fund manned missions but $6 million doesn't buy much at all when it comes to space research. Whilst we like to boast about all our space capabilities unless we start funding then we won't even be a bit player but if we invest and develop the right products we can make up the investment in exports.

One of the only things that might save the state of Israel from imminent destruction is an overwhelming international focus away from local conflict and toward conquest of space. Oh wait. The article says 2015. Too late.

it seems apparently that 300 nations' space scientists do not agree with you. then again, what would you know about space. the only space you are aware of is the empty one between your ears. sweden

William ,   Israel   (10.10.12)
not against the very small group of nations with a space program. One issue - none of the other space program nations face daily terrorist attacks and existential threats that would eat into their research funds.

Oh, but you are wrong. A considerable amount of Israel's defense budget is devoted to enhancing Israel's space capabilities ... which are considerable, by the way.

But Jane's only source of information is the Israeli government. So why on earth would the State of Israel want everyone else to have a handle on just what it does? Jane's didn't know about Israel's cyber warfare division -- which is very well funded (although it doesn't show up in any official Israeli budget documentation) and VERY well staffed. Israel has in its diverse arsenal capabilities that the United States can only dream of. Our survival depends on it -- and with the vast brain pool that Israel can draw upon, both in Israel and in the Diaspora -- well, do the math.

Israel falling behind? Then why do the Marshall Space Flight Center, NASA, the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory recruit so heavily on Israeli campuses?

He's an insider knows the facts but choose to run his mouth counting on ignorance and got some suckers kissing his a$$. In regard of your excuse maybe it's time to do some soul searching and instead pointing a finger learn to co-exist with others.

24. We are losing our place
David ,   Israel   (10.10.12)
Due to our inability to provide funding towards the education, and research and development in the space field, our technological edge in terms of our satellites is closing. The former head and father of Israel's satellite program said it himself before he retired that Israel needs investment in this field for the future of our country. The gap between us and the Arab world is closing. Hopefully hosting such events will stimulate greater investment for this field that can expand our strength in the high tech field.

ISA gets $6 million a year for research & design although if the military want satellites they pay for them its not part of the ISA budget. Israel does have an edge for the moment in the Middle East but give it 10 years if more money isn't invested it will be playing catchup. Iran has already started its own space program and is investing massive amounts of money into it. They might be in the early stages right now but with the investment they are making its only going to be a matter of time till they overtake Israel. Right now the arabs do not invest in space but once that changes with all their money they could have a very advanced space program very soon. You can't build the best unless your willing to invest and if Israel doesn't want to put in the money then it will not be able to keep the technological edge & some bright spark in politics is going to decide space is not an economical area for Israel to get into. We saw it after the cancelation of the Lavi & we will probably see it when the Merkava program comes to an end. Its ok to support Israel and be critical of it when its making the wrong policies.
