1. he's a liar. i cannot believe your navity. no more nice guy
ralph   (10.09.12)
response from us. where do you stupid naive people come from???
2. Palestinians
john ,   toronto   (10.09.12)
The Palestinians also should prepare for elections to see if the people agree with leaders and their rule. Democracy should first start with this region, so that the people elect the leaders who represent them.
3. Peace talks NOW?
big bad Jew ,   United States   (10.09.12)
he really must be desperate. How many years did this old fool have to talk? He knows he will get zip from the US after Romney is elected and, he WILL be elected.
4. Watch him backtrack...
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (10.09.12)
If the vote comes out against recognition.
5. Pals NEVER EVER asked for freeze. It was Obamas idea
Alan ,   SA   (10.09.12)
6. what convenient timing
zionist forever   (10.09.12)
After years of refusing to talk just as its announced Bibi is planning to hold early elections Abbas wants to have peace talks. Reminds me of during the ten month settlement freeze. For nine months he made excuses not to talk then in the tenth month he decides he is ready to talk. When we do talk not much is achieved but then when the freeze ends Abbas comes out of it as the peacemaker blaming settlement building and saying he wont talk until building stops. He is playing the same game now. He knows Bibi won't be able to achieve much during an election campaign so when there is no progress Bibi doesn't want to make peace and he will tell us as a result the need for the UN to unilaterally create an arab state is needed. If we get a Labor, Lapid, Meretz, Kadima coalition which sadly we probably will with Bibi at an all time low then they will give away everything ( Golan included if Syria demands it ) in exchange for nothing. Abbas knows he can probably take that bunch to the cleaners and if Bibi wins well Abbas will walk away again and blame it all on Bibi.
7. I think this is a clever ploy
William ,   Israel   (10.09.12)
Most nations who believe there should be a Pally State give their support with the caveat that such a State would be born from negotiations with Israel, and a final end to the war and aggressions. Abbas' statement seems like a nod towards those supporters whom he might have lost had he stayed with the hardline 'give us everything so we can bypass Israel" stance. I don't know Israel's answer but i hope it is something that challenges him like "if you're ready to talk peace, then why go to the UN to gain symbolic recognition knowing the vote is non-binding? If you're serious, the table is just down the street in Jerusalem, not 7000 miles away in NYC."
8. Inaccurate article
Andi ,   Israel   (10.09.12)
"Peace talks have been frozen for nearly four years, in large part due to the Palestinian demand for a settlement freeze and Israel's refusal to accept it." This is inaccurate. Israel accepted and carried out a settlement freeze for 10 months (except in Jerusalem which Israel mainatains is not part of the West Bank), but the Palestinians still refused to negotiate. Also Israel refuses any further settlement freeze as a pre-condition to negotations. It doesn't rule out discussing and/or freezing settlements once negotiations resume.
9. It's SOOO Obvious!
Annie ,   US   (10.10.12)
The second i saw the headline I was like...whaaaa? they want peace? what's the catch? OH of course, there's a vote. They want to be recognized first as non member state. And then Suuuure, they'll go to the "negotiating table." but then 2 days in...oh wait, an Israeli sneezed? NEGOTIATIONS are off!!! but at least they got their status, tricking all the stupid naive liberals ONCE AGAIN. Same liberals who will be too stupid to even realize they've been tricked.
10. the only 'peace talks'
alsky ,   toronto   (10.10.12)
he refers to is the best way to achieve the Islamic goal of the destruction of Israel. Not an inch !
11. Just a fake bribe to the useless UN.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (10.10.12)
12. No need
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.10.12)
Because after the United Nations vote -- irrespective of the outcome -- Israel will formally annex Judea and Samaria and repatriate all the Arabs illegally squatting there to Jordan, country of their citizenship. There will be nothing to "negotiate."
13. He's lying
steve from raleigh   (10.10.12)
Every single word that worthless little toad has ever uttered in his entire life has been a lie.
14. The Olso Accords......
Brett Levitas ,   JHB South Africa   (10.10.12)
Didnt they just recently ask for the Olso Accord to be reviewed?? Give them the recognition they ask @ the UN and they will backtrack. These people, thats all arab leaders, ALL, backtrack on their commitments!! We would be foolish to allow them recognition!!
15. DOES ANYONE LISTEN TO HIM ANYMORE?
AFRIED ,   FLORIDA, USA   (10.10.12)
Either he is doing it to try to get UN status or because he senses Obama may now loss.
16. Don't talk peace, just do it!
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.10.12)
17. PA seeks to draw rift between Israel+ the West
Sam ,   Canada   (10.10.12)
The PA wants the West to acknowledge the West Bank as theirs and then boycott Israel into giving it to them. Then they want a right of return into Israel which would give them a second Palestinian state. That's their idea of a 2 state solution and they are counting on a naive and frightened West and liberal Jews to give it to them. If not, they can go back to terrorizing people and trying to draw Arab countries into war with Israel. Romney understands the Palestinian gimmick. Obama prefers believing Palestinians are sincere about peace.
18. Abbas
(10.10.12)
Abbas, all you Arabs, all you 22 Arab nations should be ashamed at the bullying, ridiculous demands, intolerance, lies, bigotry, bloodshed and hate towards your Jewish half-brothers. Find a solution involving your Arab brothers who sit on over 99% of MiddleEast land holding onto 16% of world oil. And leave the tiny population (and tiny nation) of Jews alone in peace! Don't you guys have any shame, conscience and any fear of meeting the Creator on the Day of Judgement for all the nonsense, lies and bloodshed?
19. peace or piece
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (10.10.12)
All the Pals are interested in getting more pieces from Israel. Anyone who has read the Koran realizes that one of Mohammed's war strategies was to get concessions to weaken his enemies and then finally take them by surprise. Abass is following his leader.
20. The Arab Israeli conflict, local and regional alike, is ...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (10.10.12)
... fundamentally due to the categorical objection by the Muslim-Arabs - not the Christian-Arabs or the Druze-Arabs, mind you!! - to accept the RIGHT of Israel to be, to exist as the sovereign nation-state of the Jewish people on ANY parcel of land that is the Jewish people's historic homeland. No matter what territory Israel hands over to the Arabs, the Muslim-Arabs would simply not be content with such an handover. And, once having pocketed the good will gesture by Israel, the next demand will follow. This is precisely why the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has refused, categorically, to accept Israel's right to exist as the sovereign nation-state of the Jewish people, and objected to view ANY peace treaty as the "end of the conflict, and the end of all future demands". Hence, the only way to deal with such built-in and deeply rooted attitude by the Muslim-Arabs is for Israel to maintain its social, economic, spiritual and military strength while at the same time demanding of the international community to stand by the fundamental elements of international law that secure Israel's right to exist as the sovereign nation-state of the Jewish people on the 23% of "Palestine" that was designated by the international community as "the national home for the Jewish people", i.e. that territory of former "Palestine" that is located between the Jordan River and the Med. Sea.
21. dead man talking!
tiki ,   belgium   (10.10.12)
Is there still anyone who takes this bluffer seriously (exept the 'intelligent Left)?
22. What if....
Tim ,   Brighton   (10.10.12)
Theres a small group of Palestinians and people from Arab countries in the UK recently asking just that I think this is a refreshing way to try to move forward..by looking back 'Supposing we did make peace with Israel and resolved Nationhood for Palestinians...after the 73 War where would Palestinians, Israel and the Region be now?' Very interesting to hear the views Turkish Iranian Lebanese Syrian and Egyptian economists ... In short by 2012 the Middle East could have been the MOST prosperous region on earth...blessed with resources, manpower and brainpower This could also have sparked the dawn of a Golden Age of Islamic Enlightenment in the Region and a new brotherhood of Abrahamic Faiths What if? Why not!
23. abbas want to negotiate israel state with palestine state
adam adam ,   planet earth   (10.10.12)
israel respect power and with palestine state israel will consider that the international community will intervene because palestine is state now and this is good for both part to solve the problem
24. A NEW precondition?
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (10.10.12)
Talks proposed after UN status vote...but what if the vote is NO? The new precondition is that the vote must be YES. How about peace talks after PA and 'presidential' elections? At least Abbas or whoever is elected can really claim to have some sort of mandate from some people, unlike now. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
