1. LOL!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.12.12)
Should be interesting to watch how the "continent of peace" squabbles over allocation of the Prize .... The Europeans do not care about the "honor." They are far more interested in the money. They need it. Continent of peace, indeed. Sit back, folks. This is gonna be good. Pass the popcorn.
2. #1 You got the point
berlonski ,   berlin   (10.12.12)
If you go on squabbling over the allocation of money instead of starting to kill each other - that's what secures peace.
3. Supremely self-indulgent
Cameron ,   USA   (10.12.12)
What a BS crew Europeans are at the end of the day. I well remember how the states that formed the EU dithered about & ran in circles during the collapse of Yugoslavia, and how it was the efforts of THE YANKS that put an end to fighting in the Balkans, and have enforced the European peace.
4. Congratulations to the European Union!
(10.12.12)
5. #3
Tomek ,   Poland   (10.12.12)
The Balkans has been our continent's political quagmire for centuries and during the split of Yugoslavia no country in the region was a EU member. For Europe, almost 70 years without any major bloodshed is quite an achievement. Note that Norway is not in the EU, so this award is not "self-indulgent". The 2009 award was a joke but this time they got it right.
6. Far too early for a prize
Misha ,   Tel Aviv   (10.12.12)
Like Obama's prize, awarded way, way too early. I agree that the EU has brought peace to Europe, for the time being, but like Obama's case, the award this year appears to express the HOPES of the Nobel committee rather than any long-lasting achievements. Personally, I think the Nobel committee will regret this choice...
7. last year Obama, this year EU
Amos J   (10.12.12)
next year the Ayatollahs....
8. fair enough
lola ,   australia   (10.12.12)
was discussing the possibilty of peace over the entire middle east with an arab. he said "no chance too much hate" look at europe. not 70 years ago 35 million dead and boy did they hate each other.. now they rant and rave but they are all trying to bail each other out. not too bad IMO.
9. Prize to be collected by
Dan Goldman   (10.12.12)
Prize to be collected by Dhimmi Catherine Ashton. What with so many million Jews killed in Inquisitions, Pogroms, Holocausts,....now they seem to be more interested in MONEY than killing. Maybe a turn for the better ???
10. Hope it's not a sign of things to come ....
EST ,   Miami USA   (10.12.12)
Obama was awarded the Nobel Prize and the Middle East exploded, the US' economy went downhill super-fast, more protests than ever, Greece, Spain, etc. are also riddled with violent protests, etc., etc., etc.
11. Return your Nobel prize Hussein Obama!
sk ,   USA   (10.12.12)
Obama, the president of the USA should return the Nobel Peace Prize that he got for doing nothing, for a Middle East that is more unstable than when he took office, for an Iranian problem that he did not solve, who are closer to a dirty bomb, where the evil regime continue their genocidal chant against Israel! Return the Prize/money Hussein Obama! You do not deserve it!!!
12. ... and so did Arafat and so did Obama. You were saying ...?
leo ,   usa   (10.12.12)
13. The real reason.
Sarah B, ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.12.12)
To all the cynics and morons that are complaining about the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to the European Union... Unlike some recipients of the prize, the European Union and its predecessors has actually delivered, rather than just promised. It has brought peace to a region that was plagued by war for centuries.
14. Well if they can give it to Obama, they can give it to anyone
(10.12.12)
15. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.12.12)
No, you missed the point. The EU is going to collapse. It is all about the money. Hopefully, they won't go to war over it, but .... haven't they always? Europe is an old, tired vestigial organ that doesn't really matter any more.
16. EU should get Nobel prize as the most corrupted continent!
Jouko ,   Finland   (10.12.12)
17. Ridiculous
Alexandre ,   France   (10.12.12)
No other words.
18. #15 You are a bitter and twisted....
Robert ,   Australia   (10.12.12)
....old woman who is obviously green with envy at attention given to anyone but yourself. You must really live a miserable existence with no good word for absolutely anyone but yourself.
19. Why not NATO?
Igor ,   Germany   (10.12.12)
It was actually the NATO which for over 6 decades guaranteed peace in Europe. The EU has been existing only for 20 years and in the current setup only since 2007.
20. EU is the grave digger
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (10.12.12)
of all european nation and induvidual. A burocratic phenomenon that failed on every aspects, economy, demography, justice and so on. In Hungary citizens' life standard fell with 30% since entering EU. One area is developed significantly : antisemitism, with 50% at least. Congratulations to EU !
21. running out of candidates
tiki ,   belgium   (10.12.12)
Arafat, Obama and now the EU. What a joke. They should abandon this ridiculous 'prize all together, untill someone realy deserves it.
22. Prize should go to US, since EU was a US idea/strategy...
t f ,   herzliya il   (10.12.12)
...following 2 wars fought in such quick succession. The US didn't want to fight another, so the idea was to create a common market between France and Germany as the core.
23. The same Obamabot: Thorbjoern Jagland
Tom W ,   USA   (10.12.12)
The Norwegian peace Nobel prize president whose country is not even EU member, at it again. After Obamao got it for nothing, now the EU got bestowed for 25% Greek, Spanish unemployment and very high misery index all over in the EU except for a few Nordic/Germanic nations. Par for the course.
24. The absurd post at No. 13 is not mine.
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.12.12)
25. To: No. 18
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.12.12)
First of all, you don't know me so you are hardly in a position to comment upon my appearance or my personality. You, on the other hand, are a Jew-hating moron. Your virulent posts are testament to that.
26. If any Nobel Peace Prize has ever been
Citizen of the ,   European Union   (10.12.12)
justified, then this one. Compared to the wars we fought in our history, the troubles of today are completely irrelevant.
27. 24 , correction
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (10.12.12)
replace "absurd" with SMART and CORRECT , something that we can't say about the writer of # 24 .who is hating everyone she disagrees with . Poor LIAR What about the Estelle with her TWO HOLDS ?
28. Sarah.
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (10.12.12)
Have you noticed that this impersonator whose attention you attracted invariably leaves some kind of, well ''trademark'' such as double commas in his or her signature, or simply writes down U.S.A./Tel-Aviv as geographical location, to name but a few variations. I consider it to be below my dignity to bother overmuch with these posts, but it almost seems intentional. If said person wanted to be actually believable, he/she would have ''refined'' his/her style a week after this became bleeding obvious. And we're not talking about a week here, it seems to have been going on for quite some time. My guess is that this person is someone who frequents these boards on a regular basis under different name and just craves the intention. I do not exactly comprehend how Ynet's moderation system actually works, but it seems it's in need of an upgrade, also considering the vile anti-semitic rants apparently passing muster, while I (and others) frequently find my more considerate replies absent in the chain of talkbacks.
29. Agreed, more proven & earned, #19 and #22
Cameron ,   USA   (10.12.12)
The EU is still a rather young virgin, uncertain & hesitant to the challenges before it. A touch premature for the Europeans to be awarding themselves at this time.
30. You are either jealous, stupid or ignorant
Zyx ,   US   (10.12.12)
Nothing surprising coming from an American. You should keep your critics for the US that has become a corrupt nation, under the control of various mafias.
