1. funny
(10.13.12)
politics aside, an objective committee found "the department [has a]...low quality research and teaching." Then "since the report was published, the department has failed to broaden its research approaches" In other, we are wasting money subsidizing a group of political fanatics who can't teach, don't research but defame Israel and call for boycott. They were given a chance to improve and FAILED. Take their money, give it to a real university like Ariel.
2. has Neve Gordon offered to change?
margie   (10.13.12)
At the moment he teaches what is virtually treason. My most striking impression of Gordon is of him holding the hand of the suicide-bomb facilitator, Arafat. If this is what he intends to convey to his students who endanger their lives to protect Israel then the department needs to be closed.
3. Close it!
Alex   (10.13.12)
It's about time we show no extremists are allowed to hijack our universities and brainwash students.

Then how about starting with the Ariel community college ?...a real political monstrosity
5. Common sense at last! Bravissimo
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (10.13.12)
This may restore my faith in BGU. The loony Left has finally suffered a setback.
6. International Donor contributions
Joe Kelly ,   Australia   (10.14.12)
As a successful Australian Israeli, I was approached in Australia by another unnamed shameless Israeli University to make a substantial ongoing contribution to them, and to even factor them in my Will. I told them that I would rather burn my money, until sense prevailed, and all these social departments would be closed down for good. A lot of Australian's high net worth friends of mine will also not send any moneys to Israel for the same reason. Please close them down to restore Israel's dignity.
7. The Political Science Dept., headed by
Reuven   (10.14.12)
traitor and Arafat-admirer, Neve Gordon must be closed down. The department has no objectivity and is actually quite dangerous.
8. BGU professors were inciting violence against rightists

9. Don't close it, reform it
Ilan   (10.14.12)
Firing incompetent lecturers is not really in the realm of possible for Israeli universities. Perhaps adding some real talent to work along side the standard protectzia appointed clowns will be enough to bring the department to standards. More importantly will be steps to prevent current staff from continuing their reign of terror on the students.
10. Dangerous Precedent?
GuyF82 ,   Rishon Letzion   (10.14.12)
I cannot help but laugh at the surreal irony and blatant hypocrisy of MK Miller discussing the 'dangerous precedent' that might occur if this decision is overturned. Apparently the much more dangerous precedent of attempting to silence free speech in Israel by intimidating academics bothers him very little, but then again, members of such a pseudo-fascist party don't really operate in the world of rational thought. Neve Gordon and other leftist lunatics that carry the BDS line may say some despicable things, but that's the price that we pay for living in a democracy. US universities are crammed with these types of wackos, none of which, as far as I remember have been arrested or faced the impending closure of their department. If Israel's hasbara department was smart (which clearly it is not), it would trumpet the fact that people like Gordon, etc. are allowed to say what they want without being censored or punished.
