2. Erdogan's Turkey is increasingly Islamic
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (10.18.12)
Erdogan has been destroying the secular liberal element of Turkish society. This is just another sign of what has gone wrong there. I wonder if Western liberal outrage will be shown against this current stupidity. Will the whole of the Western musical world be behind Fazil Say as they should? By the way one of his crimes may be, and the secret reason for persecuting him is that he has played in Israel. These kinds of action mean a society is running backwards as fast as it can.

You wrote, "Is it any surprise that the EU rejected Turkey's application because of its human rights record?" You must be getting your news from British tabloids as what you have written here is not true. The EU has never done such a thing. In fact, Turkey's application for membership was accepted. Turkey is slow however in the completion of accession chapters and in the implementation of the required reforms. Regards

9. Number 5. I'm astonished!
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (10.18.12)
I must have missed that development. Last I heard France and Germany were blocking Turkey because of human rights issues. Perhaps they have resolved those issues. Many thanks Watson.
