3. Bill if you ever go to Armonk
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (10.19.12)
Armonk NY is only about 40 minutes away from Midtown Manhattan. If you ever go that way one day just stop by the IBM campus. It is a huge building hidden by the trees. IBM has been standing strong ever since Lou Gerstner took the command from John Akers. Its competitors such as DEC (Digital), Boroughs, Cray Supercomputers all disappeared but IBM still stands strong making the fastest computer hardware (The Watson was featured in the TV game show Jeopardy), the most popular Business analysis tools, it is among the best business services companies in the world. IBM holds more innovative patents than any other company in the world. Most department stores (Macy's, JC Penney, Nordstrom) and supermarkets (Waldbaums) use IBM POS systems that you cansee everyday living in NY. Many of the popular game consoles use chips made by IBM so does Apple computers.

5. Okay, Okay

My original comment was a joke, and I am familiar with the Armonk campus. But I also remember a time 30 years ago when everyone spoke of IBM as the leader in computers. I'm glad they have survived and wish their employees well, but most people never think about IBM anymore but do think about Apple, Dell, Google. It is true that the measure of a business is not its fame. Still, it is remarkable how they went from high profile to unseen infrastructure. SAP does important stuff too, but who thinks about them either?
