61. Everybody is entitled to his opinion...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (10.25.12)
Why should a Rabbi not have the same right.Nobody is forced to follow him.
62. I'd like to see where in Jewish law this is prohibited
Vlad   (10.25.12)
The history of Rabbis making their own rulings goes back to Talmudic times, when they banned "immodesty" like even looking at a woman you are infatuated with, without any justification in Torah. The rabbis apparently think that just because they're rabbis, they can say whatever they want.
63. 61: ORA, Unfortunately, some haredi
Runner1983 ,   USA   (10.25.12)
Israelis actually follow the opinions and teachings of haredi rabbis, and therefore what they say has an impact on what some people think and believe. For better or worse, they are opinion leaders, and therefore what they say has import. Israel cannot afford to have a growing portion of its population marginalize women, which is getting worse over time, as haredi rabbis make these kinds of comments. It's a waste of talent of half he popularion, and a violation of human rights. The secular segment of Israel's population will not tolerate it. If an accommodation is not reached by both cultures, the theat to Israei society is very serious.
64. Judaism or Talibanism?
emanon ,   USA   (10.25.12)
65. Another wackjob on a government salary.
Al   (10.26.12)
I dont know what kind of Judacrackism these morons follow but it has absolutely nothing to do with Yiddishkeit. Its time to show them the door Enough of them and their wacky thoughts. They are a far cry from true yiddishkeit. Its time that truly religious Jews take back our religion from these mesheguim.
66. Bright Ideaa
Samuel ,   Israel   (10.26.12)
I personally fell the Rabbi's should resign from the Knesset & devote their religious knowledge & energy in praying to the Almighty for peace & love in our tiny country.

70. Aviner & cohorts and halach'a
Refusednik   (10.26.12)
This a wake up call to all normal and rational Jews...Judaism is under mortal assault by its so-called "rabbinical" leaders. It is evident that the so-called "religious authorities", the "Rabbanut " who pretend to lead Judaism regarding Jewish Law and practices are ALL deeply in need of extensive psychiatric help! Not only are these foolish clowns deliberately misinterpreting the intent of past halach'ic rulings that are now TOTALLY irrelevant to our day and age, but adding insult to injury, these ignoramuses laddle out new foolish restrictive rules on top of prior inappropriate rules on a daily basis. Considering the worthless irrational trash that ceaselessly spews out from these so-called religious authorities, is it any wonder that Jews word-wide are becoming secularized in ever larger numbers and are abandoning Judaism in droves. These so-called rabbanims, without exceptions, are the primary destructors of Judaism and each exemplifies the accursed "ch'oteh umech'ateh et harabim". Shame on them ALL!
71. We have enough of these ...
Saudi ,   riyadh, Sa   (10.26.12)
72. primitive lunacy is also immodest
european   (10.27.12)
in fact, it's outrageously flamboyant, as we can see.
73. WITH NO RESPECT....
les ,   canada   (10.27.12)
that "rabbi" is a stone age left over, who belongs together with the mullahs and the taliban. i don't think jews need a person like him "teaching" them!
74. Halacha?
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (10.27.12)
It is important to know that modesty does not appear even once in all the Tanakh. The idea of modesty first appears in the Babylonian Talmud, but no specific dress codes were written. The whole talmud was first printed in the 1500s Modesty is ALSO mentioned in the Shulchan Aruch another 16th century document sans dress code All the so called dictums on dress code and women cme latter by other rabbis and reflect the normal mode off their timed.. In the normal world modesty is a function of time & place but these cults have made modesty a fixed definition and reject all advances in the status of women and in modern dress normals
75. Rabbis mustn't get involved in state's business (End)
Amram ,   Toronto, Canada   (10.28.12)
76. Taliban & Sharia
Israeli ,   Israel   (10.28.12)

77. I AGREE 100% WITH THE GOOD RABBI
DA RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (10.28.12)
Woman and politics are a lousy mix.
78. To quote the article:
Runner1983 ,   USA   (10.28.12)
"MK Tzipi Hotovely (Likud), a religious lawmaker, presents a letter she received from Rabbi Aviner, in which he ....gave her his approval to take part in her party's primary elections." "Gave her permission?" I feel sorry for those individuals who feel they must get "approval" from some haredi rabbi, accountable to no one, to run in an election. Due to the relative high birthdate of the Haredim, this will become more and more of an issue in the cultural clash between the haredi and secular Jews of Israel.
79. Isn't this a women's issue?
Miriam ,   London England   (10.28.12)
Odd that there are so many men with such strong opinions about women. It looks more like they are out to attack anything any rabbi says, whether or not it concerns them. Let women speak. Perhaps most women don't want to be MK's.
80. Just out of interest...
Joe ,   Baltimore, USA   (10.28.12)
Just out of interest how many women are in the American Senate? I suspect not that many mayors of major USA cities or Governors of major USA states are women. It's just possible that women don't find politics as attractive as men do.
81. welcome to the dark ages!
bernard ,   munich/germany   (10.29.12)
A good example of bullsh ...
82. Rabbi
edouard ,   Montreal Canada   (10.30.12)
Why don't you get a real job Stop your stupid coments about women Most of them are probably far superior then you Why are you so scare of them ,did wet your bed until 12 or 14 years of age??? Did your mom caught you playing with you litle "youyou"under the shits and you are now upset against all women Get a docteur idiot
83. Mike well said :)
DEFENDER OF RIGHTS ,   ISRAEL, even yehuda   (10.30.12)
84. What do women think?
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (10.30.12)
Why don't the male posters ask their wives, mothers, daughters whether they want to be politicians? Politics can be unpleasant, dirty, corrupt. What if women prefer to leave that job to men and just vote for who speaks best for them? Judging by the posts, not many women are concerned. The Rabbi was speaking hypothetically, acknowldging that in practice we accept women in politics. Most male posters are therefore replying to what they think he said, not what he himself clarified.
85. rav Aviner
Nofia ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.28.12)
Rav Aviner, who has been told he isn't allowed to do psak din on taharah anymore has an opinion on women. Rav Aviner, who a few years ago made a psak against me putting me into "herem" in beit el, but when asked about it 2 years ago "didn't remember" a thing. Rabbi Aviner should be IGNORED by anyone with common sense.
