1. Israeli religious for Mormon!
Avi   (10.28.12)
Who knew the religious would approve of a Mormon?
2. Yes, by all means listen to the Rabbi!!!!
(10.28.12)
3. Correction: Obama is an enemy of Israel and likely America.
Chaim ,   Israel   (10.28.12)
Vote Romney!
4. Obama no friend of BIBI
danR ,   vancouver   (10.28.12)
Obama IS a friend of Israel, however.
5. Rabbi Melamed
David Goldberger ,   cooper city,florida   (10.28.12)
This rabbi should bud into american politics. He is so ignorant that gives us all another reason to ask all rabbis to stay out of politics. The morman church has postumously converted 3 million victims of the holocaust. Romney is not on our side at all. President Obama has supported Israel the past four years and will do so the next term.
6. A Word to the Wise
Robert Kahn ,   Petach Tikva   (10.28.12)
Rabbi Melamed is known as being a very sensible, practical, and wise man, who combines religious studies with worldly studies. If HE has come to this conclusion, I think it is worthwhile for people to take his opinion seriously!
7. with all due respect this rabbi should shut up!
(10.28.12)
does he know: 1. that Romney belongs to a religion which actively proselytizes and actively converts Jews? and Romneys religion the Church of Latter Day Saints aka the Mormons don't really care if the Jews want to be converted or not and they don't really care if they are alive or not. 2. that in the USA there is separation between religion and state and therefore we don't have to listen to him we can decide on our own! 3. this speech will bite the Rabbi in the posterior and very soon too.
8. There are no secrets
Tom W ,   USA   (10.28.12)
Only the hard left, the Soros-Clan, Jstreet, N.Y. Times, Hollywood Jewish plutocrats and Obama Court Jews are Obama's chief supporters - on top of his own ethnic group. As Eric Holder, Attn. General said: "My people".
9. #7 With due respect
(10.28.12)
Obama spent 20 years in the church of the anti-semitic Reverend Wright. He didn't leave the church because he objected to content of sermons. He left because he was running for president and association became a liability.
10. #2
Harold ,   USA   (10.28.12)
Does the Ribbi know that 2% of US voters are Jewish,17% of the US voters are Hispanic and 15% of the US voters are African American.
11. Number 7. Right to opinions
Akiva ,   NYC   (10.28.12)
Rabbi Melamed has the same right as others have to express his views. Hundreds of Reform Rabbis have openly supported Obama, and many Orthodox Rabbis have supported Romney, which is their right. Do you think Rev Jeremiah Wright is any friendler to Jews or America than the Mormons?
12. # 10 Harold is right when he writes...
Ginette Golden ,   Toronto, Canada   (10.28.12)
"Does the Rabbi know that 2% of US voters are Jewish,17% of the US voters are Hispanic and 15% of the US voters are African American." HOWEVER and that's a big one, it does not really matter how Obummer and his team "are cooking the books" of the present economy, the reality is such that a large number of U.S. citizens, (Hispanics & African American) are still out of work or on welfare or losing their homes due to lack of income and that will be the main reason for the presidential outcome. Having said that, I don't like how Obama (mis)treats Israel in favor of bowing to the Arabs. Nothing convinced me more of that than his first presidential speech in Egypt...boy that was scary! This is just not done and it shows favoritism for chaos. He chose to leave the company of Reverend Wright for the wrong reasons and in the process, he fooled a lot of good Americans four years ago. Try not to fall into this trap again.
13. The affairs of others
Bertram ,   London, UK   (10.28.12)
A prominent Israeli has sought to intervene in American political affairs. So, I guess it is legitimate for any prominent American - or anyone from anywhere else for that matter - to intervene in Israeli political affairs. Have I got that right?
14. #9 read ur post & then share y hasn't Romney done the same?
(10.28.12)
15. Voting is Not Your Business- Torah is..
Dina ,   NY, USA   (10.29.12)
How can a Rabbi tell people to murder the middle class and wage war against women and te less fiortunate. Have faith in Hashem dear Rabbi, you do not need greedy levels of money and to support the super rich. The Torah says that people who have millions and billions in the bank when people are starving and homeless, are cruel. Please act like a Totah Jew.
16. #13.Bertram: They do just that!
Tom W ,   USA   (10.29.12)
The Obama coterie - trough their Jewish emissaries incessantly trying to influence the Israeli public opinion against Bibi and Likud in general. Do you really believe that the Western leftists hot shots - UK included - don't try to do their best to advance the Israeli Leftist colleagues' goals?| Their preferred modus operandi is bashing Bibi/Israel via the media: Guardian, BBC, N.Y. Times etc. We're here all adults: you know how your comrades work, don't you?
17. The Rabbi is overlooking many things
Richard Schwartz ,   Staten island USA   (10.29.12)
People, like the rabbi, who are skeptical about President Obama's positions on Israel should consider the following: Obama has taken many positive actions for Israel including: rejecting the Goldstone report that criticized Israeli actions in the war in Gaza; asking Congress to approve a $205 million package to help Israel build a new anti-missile defense system; successfully advocating for Israel’s admission into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development; giving a speech in the heart of the Arab world, in which he told his listeners that they need to recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish state; stating to the UN General Assembly clearly and unequivocally that “Israel is a sovereign state and the historic homeland of the Jewish people” and “It should be clear to all that efforts to chip away at Israel’s legitimacy will only be met by the unshakeable opposition of the US.” Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have stated many times that the U.S. has been extremely cooperative in meeting Israel’s security needs. Another example of Obama’s strong support for Israel is his very positive response to a frantic, middle-of-the-night call from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu that helped free six Israelis who were trapped in the Israeli embassy in Cairo that was under attack by militant Egyptians. After they were freed, Netanyahu said: "I would like to express my gratitude to the President of the United States, Barack Obama. I asked for his help. This was a decisive and fateful moment. He said, “I will do everything I can.” And so he did. He used every considerable means and influence of the United States to help us. We owe him a special measure of gratitude. This attests to the strong alliance between Israel and the United States." On September 22, 2011, Prime Minister Netanyahu heaped additional praise on President Obama for his talk at the United Nations, in which Obama expressed opposition to U.N. recognition of a Palestinian state, and indicated that he would veto a resolution supporting that recognition in the U.N. Security Council. Netanyahu indicated that Obama deserved a “badge of honor” for that talk. People who think President Obama has a negative attitude toward Jews or that he is more sensitive to Muslims than Jews should consider the following: his initial chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is Jewish and the son of Israelis; his present chief of staff Jack Lew is an Orthodox Jew; one of his key advisors David Axlerod, is Jewish, and he is also a key strategist for Obama’s reelection campaign; Obama nominated a Jew, Elana Kagan, as a Supreme Court Justice (even though that left the 9-member Court with three Jews and no Protestant members; he is the first president to have Passover Seders in the White House; and Obama and his cabinet members have frequently stressed their solidarity with Jews and with Israel. I think it is important to stress that Israel needs a resolution of her conflict with the Palestinians in order to be able to avert renewed conflict, effectively address her economic, social, and environmental problems, avoid increased isolation and criticism, and remain both a Jewish and a democratic state. Of course this will not be easy to obtain, but I believe it should be a priority, with conditions to provide security for Israel a prime consideration. Failure to obtain such a resolution will have very negative consequences for Israel, the Palestinians, the US, and, indeed, the entire world. Hence, steps to improve prospects for peace should be advanced, and nothing should be done to reduce these prospects.
18. #12 Bertram
Amnon ,   yehupetz   (10.29.12)
You have the right to intervine in Israeli elections as long as you are an expat and can vote in the election same as the american expats if you are not than mokles but out.
19. #14, what are you trying to say?
Robert ,   New Jersey, USA   (10.29.12)
Are you too handicapped to spell out your words? Are you wondering why Romney hasn't abandoned his church. Has it ever occurred to you Romney, unlike Obama, is a man of principle, not a creature formed by expedient decisions designed to get him elected?
20. Opinions are like votes
mea   (10.29.12)
everybody has one. When you stand in the voting booth you are alone and you should remember that. Nobody ever knows who I vote for and I vote my conscience, alone, by myself.
21. # 13
Birdi ,   Israel   (10.29.12)
Intervene as much as you wish, the fact remains to be seen how many people will listen to you, never mind hear you.
22. Who is the real Obama?
Anthony David Marks ,   Israel   (10.28.12)
When I first heard Baruck Obama speak I was most impressed with his outstanding intellect and his ability to present a complex argrument in a simple coherent fashion . However, I always wondered if he believed everything he said. Was it all "just words?" Many years ago I spent a whole year in a university seminar hearing a Harvard-trained Palestininan professor praising Judaism but noted he was simultaneously dismembering Judaism which he did it in such a polished way that it went unnoticed . The uniformed were more enamoured with the presentation than the contents. I have continually thought that Obama has an agenda that is different from that which he actually professes. If he does, he has done a masterful job of covering it up. I would give Mitt Romney a chance to be president to insure the USA remains the USA.
23. To nr 13 - And you are the right to person to judge others?
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (10.29.12)
When are you going to get off your high horses and stop being so self righteous and hypocritical? America has intervened with Israel's independence and sovereignty for the past 64 years since 1948. Israel has never intervened with America's independence and sovereignty. During the Kennedy Administration back in the 60s, America tried to appease the Arab world by pressuring Israel to give up all of the Negev desert - maybe as much as 60% of Israel's "internationally accepted territory". That my friend is a violation of fundamental ethics and morality and a violation of Israel's independence and sovereignty and a violation of international law. The American attempt failed. When America defended itself against her enemies - Israel never voiced any concern or opinions. When Israel was attacked on dozens of occasions by our Arab enemy states ( I know - in your mind we are just "right wing extremists" because we claim minimum national rights for our self preservation and Arab plans to conquer and massacre the Jews and impose Arab rule on non Arabs all over the Middle East is a their "democratic right" - am I right?), America always interfered with Israel's right to exercise violence in self defense. True, the rabbi intervenes in American politics by expressing his opinions. On the other hand, you intervene with Israel's policies too since you sympathize with Arab genocide on Jews and Arab theft of Jewish land (i.e. support for "Palestinians"). Former President Bush Jr explicitly intervened with Israeli politics and supported Olmert in the Israeli general elections. And H. Clinton too intervened with Israel's domestic affairs. And Obama intervened with Israel's right to build whereever it wishes in Judea and Samaria. You are a true enemy of the Jewish people: Whenever others interfer with Israel's domestic affairs - it is all right. When Israel intervenes with the domestic affairs of others, it elicits your criticism. Once a hypocrite always a hypocrite. With Jews like you - who needs enemies?
24. #1 Facts are Facts - What does religion have to do with it?
Richard ,   USA   (10.29.12)
Obama is no friend of Israel. He has proven it by his actions, which show his claims to have Israel's back to be blatant lies. I do not understand why you think religion should either qualify or disqualfiy someone for President. Is Rev. Wright more pro Israel than the Mormon Church. Romney is a strong supporter and he is the only choice for anyone who cares about Israel's survival.
25. #13 Giving an opiinion is not intervention
Richard ,   USA   (10.29.12)
Bertram - you are not American and yet you express your opinion. I guess you only see it as intervention when a prominent Israeli expresses an opinion that differs from your opinion. You Brits are something else. How many more years before you adopt Sharia Law?
26. Romney Endorsement
lee ,   windsor, ct usa   (10.29.12)
Best reason yet to vote for Obama!!
27. # 17 Thank you
Joseph ,   New Zealand   (10.29.12)
For reminding us what Obama has done. I also note that for the past 4 years, Israel has been peaceful compared to the Bush Era.
28. Rabbi
Restore America ,   USA   (10.29.12)
Sir, he is no friend of all freedom loving people, Jews and Gentiles alike.
29. Obama and Jews
Reastore America ,   USA   (10.29.12)
Any Jew voting for Obama is doing so with willful ignorance. He watched our courageous people in Benghazi die, why would he give a second thought to Jews. His personal and public record are proof enough.
30. Thank You, Rabbi
Kathy S. ,   Columbus, Ohio   (10.29.12)
Rabbi, I want to thank you for making a clear and logical argument for voting Romney. I am an Evagelical Christian who loves Israel and the Jewish People, and believes that Israel has the right to build in Judea and Samaria, however, I had my doubts about voting for a Mormon. Now that I have read your statements, I know who to vote for (I already knew who NOT to vote for!). Thank you, and God bless Israel!
