olmert was a disaster as israel was being rocketed left right and centre. Olmert held the idf back from proper counterattack by sending in too few forces in one direction and hesitating. He had no idea, zero of what he was doing as winograd aptly revealed. He should have been booted out office period nver mind his legal troubles. Clear borders mean that yoiu must be an idiot, a dumb idiot like livni. You want to shrink israel's borders so that israel gets more rockets?? israel does not need anyone's permission to defend itself period, not even the US. Israel needs the jordan border, control over judea and samaria and golan as part of israel. Otherwise you will get hamastan will set up on golan and west bank. it is evident why more jews did not run to the forests adn fight in world war ll. These pacifists like london who consider olmert, a bloody disaster as their hero. What a bunch of shmucks!!
3. right and wrong at the same time
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (10.31.12)
The author is correct and incorrect. Bibi has not allowed us to be dragged into a war were our boys were killed and wounded, but he has unfortunately allowed our enemies to a) build up their stock of missiles and b) shoot from Gaza every other day. The blockade of Gaza is not very effective and each day their fire power becomes greater. Eventually it will lead to a war and Bibi can not claim that his leadership spared us of a war.
4. what a load of hooey
Etienne ,   Tel Aviv   (10.31.12)
The difference between Olmerd and Netanyahu is that Olmerd is an ignorant corrupt scum lowlife and Netanyahu is a warrior who fully understands what going to war means. He would prefer to hold his finger in the dike and target strategic assets rather than put his men at risk. As we've seen over the last 70 years, loosing wars does not permanently deter Arabs. The authors of this article are ignorant buffoons. Period
5. War in Gush Dan
michael Pielet ,   israel   (10.31.12)
London is not satisfied with one terrorist state in Gaza, he wants a second arab terrorist state in Judea and Samaria. London is not satisfied with war in the south, he wants war in Jerusalem and Gush Dan.
6. Don't you read what you write, Yaron?
Margie in Tel Aviv   (10.31.12)
You justified Olmert's war on Lebanon by saying that the border there is quiet now, implying that had Bibi gone to war with Gaza it would be quiet there ditto. Had you forgotten that the same Olmert fought Cast Lead with Gaza? He did go to war with them but all is not quiet The border isn't quiet because of the ambitions of the people across the border/ They want Israel. Nothing less.
7. half right
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (10.31.12)
London is right: the rocket attacks on Israel are a war. But why blast Netanyahu and not the ones who are responsible? Who turned Lebanon over to Hezbollah? The extreme Left under Barak, Yehimovitch, Kadima, Labor. Who turned Gaza over to Hamas? The extreme Left under Peres, Barak, Kadima, Labor Who wants to give Golan to Assad and Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria to Fatah? You guessed it: the extreme Left.
8. Like Eskimos and "snow", Israel has a dozen words for "war"
Jacob Erickson ,   Holon, Israel   (10.31.12)
There're strategic strikes, pre-emptive strikes, intifadas, surgical strikes, targeted hits, settler violence, defensive strikes, retaliatory strikes, warning strikes, probably tons more before you get to "actual war." I remember after Operation Cast Lead they were debating if it was big enough of a war to give a special patch to soldiers for because it was so short.
9. rockets
forehead1 ,   usa   (10.31.12)
netanyahu requires tne rockets. as long as the rockets keep firing; netanyahu can keep the dollars flowing from america. he also requires the hamas-- so he can keep from negotiations with fatah(while building settlements). it is all a game to keep in power while deceiving the people. good luck with him and keep him away from america please.
10. Wishy washy of...analyses??!!
Avouskila ,   South America   (11.01.12)
As usual. Mr. London is true to his fundamental understanding of the geopolitical standing of Israel in the region, and sadly he missed the implacation of Israel's policy in the international sphere. Always the opportunistic mavin, when he agrees with Olmert (hmmm?!) regarding the North, when he is not shameful at all to disregard the absence of quiteness in the Gaza envelop, which also was under the Olmert's political strategy. That's the way 'smart' personality shows hers or his understanding, which is in the pick and choose mode to confirm your already set conclusions.
