1. They already have the "State of Confusion"
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.01.12)
2. Israel has to accept whatever neighbors want from UN
Miron ,   USA   (11.01.12)
as a given. Fight the rockets, not rights.
3. Perhaps los Zetas or IRA should apply for statehood.
BH ,   Iowa   (11.01.12)
Useless Nations.
4. Why would the PA fear sanctions?
Howard Immanuelson ,   US   (11.01.12)
I don't understand why the PA would really fear US or Israeli sanctions. Yes, they'll sting for a short while but then the US and Israel will cave and things will be just as they were before.
5. Israel only wants Palestinian land, not an independent state
Alan Smith UK   (11.01.12)
No surprise then that America and Israel block the UN move, as that would be a major setback for the illegal occupation and settlement enterprise. Somewhat of a quandary for the two Gods that rule the Israeli theocracy - Avarice and Greed.
6. Israel should support the move
Keren, IL-BR   (11.01.12)
It is vain try to block it. The whole world support a Palestinian State. The pressure against Israel in the US, our only ally, is also growing. The campuses, the academia, the Departament of State and even the Jewish community there are growing getting fed up of Israel. Our only partner is the Congress and the Israel lobby. In the end, we know 2.5 million Palestinains will not move to Jordan. They will stay where they are and will fight for civil rights as did the blacks in the US and South Africa. It is a lost cause for Israel try to fight this. The land belong to 2 peoples. Israel has said that many times. A bunch of freak settlers cannot spoil our future as a great, wonderful nation. People who advocate an apartheid solution are the ones who want to destroy the Zionist dream. Israel should be the first to support the creation of Palestine and help Palestinian be a strong and prosperous State. And if they attack us? Just fight them back as normal countries do. The world will respect us and we will no longer be oppressing another people.
7. PALESTINE - YOU HAVE MY VOTE!
Total ,   Melbourne, Australia   (11.01.12)
8. Annex and give them rights
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A./Israel   (11.01.12)
The Government should answer by annexing Judea & Samaria forever. These lands belong to us by Divine Right. Take the land, grant the people living there full political rights and let them be full-fledged Israeli citizens. Israel will be bigger, a glorious return to the Canaan landscape and will have a bonus of 2.5 million people more. Isnt it nice to increase our population to 11 million people, get more 22% of land, preserve the unity of Jerusalem and be respected among the nations? This seems to good to be true.

Thank you for your realistic analysis. Good dayi
10. But why not to vote
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (11.01.12)
on the same day about independent kurdish, basque, catalan, tamil, scotish, flamish, berber, uygur, tibetian, chechen, osset, beludshi, sikh, naga, west papua, maori, lapp and hundred other states. A lot of time would have been spared then.
11. A done deal
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (11.01.12)
The vote is after the American elections, but before the inauguration. Obama will support the bid whatever happens. If he is re-elected, it will be the opening shot for the next four years of "get the Jew". If Romney is elected, Obama gets the pro-Arab legacy without any consequence.
12. #6 Bravo Keren!
Sam ,   Kfar saba   (11.01.12)
And that is why another term of Nethanyahu and Lieberman is a total disaster for Israel including those who support them.
13. #8 I agree with everything except one point
A ,   Belgium   (11.01.12)
Having 2.5 million more citizens would be great...if they were Druze, Bedouin, Christian, Samarian...any of the minorities who live in Israel and are (mostly) loyal to the state. But 2.5 mil moslem arabs? No thanks, don't need 'em at all. None of them actually.
14. #8 Hear hear...we finally agree!
Nour ,   1-State   (11.01.12)
Sarah, who would have imagined you would come back to your senses and affirm 1) the indivisibility of the Holy Land and despite international propaganda and the 2-state conspiracies; 2) that all human beings living on the land are entitled to citizenship and right to self determination, as per international human right conventions and treaties... When will you be back from New York? Let us go for coffee in Jerusalem one day. Let's put the hatred behind us, sister.
15. What we need is a complete change of thinking
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (11.01.12)
We need to face the fact that in order for East Palestine to move forward we have to recognise that independece and interdependence with all our neighbours are not mutually exclusive Take just one example. Pre Intifada there were in excess of 200000 Palestinians in employment in Israel and now just 20000 In that time the Palestinian Economy have lost in the region of $5bn - $15bn quite apart from the money and investment this could have brought to the West Bank Set against that what DID the Intifada bring us..what benefit? It just created a new generation of embittered Palestinian youth who knew only to hate The best way to rid ourselves of Israeli Occupation in the West Bank is to work with them..and most importantly gain the confidence of the wider Israeli Electorate who are the people who will set the agenda for Peace NOT their leaders
16. #6 Well said
(11.01.12)
I agree with you 100%
17. #8 Sarah B
(11.01.12)
Is land appropriated by "Devine Belief"legal under International law? Billions of people don't believe in your god.
18. #14. You are both right and wrong
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (11.01.12)
Of course we seek nationhood in a Palestinian Homeland NOT this ridiculous pining after yet another botched up fix of a One State Solution where neither Israelis or Palestinians exercise their own self determination. Why should we subjugate OUR identities into one State? YET..the BEST solution gives us the BEST of BOTH. We keep our own proud identities and independence in a State of Palestine but at the same time benefit from close mutually beneficial cooperation based on respect, tolerance and peace with Israel and all our neighbours ...then you have the beginnings of a deal thats the BEST of ALL WORLDS
19. Simply because #8 is not mine.
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A./Israel   (11.01.12)
Simply, isn't it?
20. #17
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (11.01.12)
Billions of people are going to Hell. Usually it's not what one believes but what is actually true. If you were wise you would believe in the God of Israel. A lot of people believed the Titanic couldn't sink. A lot of people were surprised and some of them died because of it.
21. Keren # 6
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (11.01.12)
The Pals have demonstrated time and again that they are more interested in the destruction of Israel than they are in having their own state. Giving them a state won't change that. I don't think anything will change the worlds attitude of being offended whenever Israel or a Jew defends themselves for any reason. There is little point in trying to please the world in hopes of getting respect. Strength and unity is what israel needs to achieve respect.
22. Why does Israel oppose the PA's bid for recognition?
Baruch ,   NY NY   (11.01.12)
I am a Zionist - but i do not understand and cannot think of any rational or legitimate reasons for Israel's opposition to UN recognition of Palestine as a non-member state. Can someone explain what dangers or threats such U.N. recognition poses to he State of Israel??
23. A different vote is needed first
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (11.01.12)
What baffles me is that the UN should consider any proposal from an unelected clique like Abbas and his Fatah cronies.Their democratic mandate ran out years ago and no PA or 'Presidential' elections are anywhere in sight. These tyrants cannot claim to be presenting the will of the Palestinian Arabs because they haven't been asked. If this UN vote goes ahead and the PA is accepted as a 'non-member state',the people's conditions will get worse, not better. The only ones who'll gain are Abbas and his Fatah cronies who'll be able to strut around like even bigger peacocks. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
24. #14 - better have coffee in Amman
William ,   Israel   (11.01.12)
Jerusalem isn't open to you.
25. #17 - then revert to legal land deeds
William ,   Israel   (11.01.12)
and the bestowing of land grants to Jews from State land which was held by the Ottomans for 500 years, and you end up with the same results. It's today's world that refuses to obey their own laws in order to play politics with the lives of others. In truth, a lot of the land in West Bank is Jewish, which was stolen from them in 1949, and must be returned. A small portion of the rest is owned by Arabs and the remainder is disputed between the two populations. You don't even need to invoke G-d into the conversation since man already took care of this issue 90 years ago.
26. The post at No. 19 is not mine, either.
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.02.12)

27. To: A at No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.02.12)
