Al Quaida already have a presence there and they have formed alliances with some of the rebels. It may actually be better for the fighting to continue then AQ will keep fighting against Syrians and leave everybody else alone. No matter what the US or anybody else does once Assad does go its unlikely any regime put together with American help has any chance of survival. Most likely the rebel will splinter and there will be a fighting for power with the Alawite, Sunni, Shia and tribal groups. Assad was the strongman who united everybody take away the strongman and you will probably have chaos

Erdogan plans to become the dominant ME leader after Asad goes. He preffers to focus now on Gaza rather than do something for the poor Syrians. Like a boy insisting to get his appology from Israel. What a shame.
