1. Sandy is not as dangerous as those deadly daily rockets
Chaim   (11.06.12)
where the world's silence about it is deafening.
2. Waste of Space on the Web
Maurice Solovitz ,   London UK   (11.06.12)
How could we have a professionally produced newspaper allow such nonsense into the electronic print media?
3. Hurricane Sandy
NYC Girl   (11.06.12)
Perhaps the author of this article would be so kind as to send a copy of it to all those people in NYC, New Jersey and Long Island who still have no electricity and no heat now that the temperatures have fallen below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. I would imagine these poor souls, many of whom have lost their homes and all their possessions, and worst of all even family members in some cases, could use a good laugh while they're waiting for the mighty US government to get moving and quit screwing around.
4. What is that?!
YoannLKZ ,   Modi'in   (11.06.12)
One of the worst opinion I've read so far. What's the link between America being intolerable and that series of non-sense... Stop always criticizing everything! Things are really not that bad in this country. It's always about playing the victim. That's pathetic.
5. True to form, Mr. Kaniuk excels in fiction
Naftush ,   Israel   (11.06.12)
He ignores the cries of anguish and outrage from Staten Island and the Rockaways, the inability to replenish gasoline supplies, the 20000-odd residents of Manhattan who face weeks of power outage, the price-gouging and occasional looting, etc. At least Israel, unlike America, has the kind of wise Jew (citizen) who steps in where the authorities stumble.
6. Not really funny, but
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.06.12)
so true and so painful that all one can do is laugh...
7. Flood
Vicki ,   Kadima, Israel   (11.06.12)
Sorry, don't mean to be rude, but what a stupid article. To make light out of a tragedy and then to forget the primary rule in Judaism which is to save life, the whole article is pathetic.
8. Sociological blindness
Raphael ,   Netanya   (11.06.12)
Kaniuk forgets ONE parameter: Americans are a crowd of isolated individuals. Reverse to Orient, where the social and family fabric is a powerful tool of survival vs red tape.
9. What is this Claptrap
TruthMonger   (11.06.12)
Enough of making up stories, I guess Bibi has been doing so well lately that they need to invent scenarios
10. If Sandy hit Israel
Voice of reason ,   Here & Now   (11.06.12)
Another Israeli kvetch. With all that Israel has to deal with you still have something to complain about even if only in theory. Crisis control is something us Israelis do best. And besides we would probably be dancinging in the flodwaters. WOW look at all that water. Besides Morris (Moshe) could part the waters whenever he haad to cross to the other side.
11. Yoram Kaniuk
naava ,   jerusalem   (11.06.12)
While we do all laugh at some of the ineptness of our peculiar Israeli ways, Kaniuk's response is way off base. The bureaucracy of the US is not what he imagines and has in his fantasies. Perhaps, since he has so stated that it is better there, it would also be better for him to become one of those American Jews he covets so much and he could have a Wise Jew as a leader. Just saying....
12. oh paleeeze!
Ilana   (11.06.12)
DOnt forget Katrina. And I believe ISrael would do a fine job. SHame on you. Popolitics...
13. If Sandy hit Israel
Happyinisrael ,   Israel   (11.06.12)
Israel has shown the world more than once how it deals with emergencies. Could this be somebody with an enormous chip onhis shoulder?
14. What!
Sruly ,   Modiin Israel   (11.06.12)
I tried to think of an intelligent comment but the best I can do is; This is not worth a comment, and Bloomberg the mayor who wants to run a marathon in the wake of a disaster. What a fool, by the way you can receive 2 16 oz sodas for the price of a big gulp. Bloomberg the Mayor or Bloomberg the blooming idiot ?
15. More Delusional Fantasies from Krazy Kaniuk
Ronny ,   Tel Aviv   (11.06.12)
We dont get Hurricanes in israel. That's why we are not prepared for them. Are Greenland Eskimoes prepared for droughts?
16. Sandy and Israel
Rhonda ,   Chicago, usa   (11.06.12)
I see Israelis as resilient, inventive and more than capable in responding to national emergencies. I don't wish disasters on either country but I am sure that the Israeli people would do more than hold their own. Just keep a runway open somewhere so we can drop in with, "hey, could you use a hand?"
17. Even WORSE than Sandy will hit Israel IF Obama is reelected
Sarah ,   Israel   (11.06.12)
G-d help us!
18. Actually ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.06.12)
.... if Hurricane Sandy were to have hit Israel, it would be an event that would shock and awe, and leave people quaking in their little booties. Hurricanes don't come to Israel. Learn something about weather patterns, can't you?
19. Very true at number 2
(11.06.12)
20. Another 'kuter' Israeli who dreams of living in America
Avi Mizrachi ,   Eitanim, Israel   (11.06.12)
Yoram Kaniuk fails to mention that those who were left with partial homes in Rockaway Beach and other places have to stand guard with shotguns to protect themselves from looters. Or, the thousands of homeless who will have to survive sub-zero weather over the next few days because they have nowhere to go. Complete neighborhoods were wiped out by Iraqi Scud missiles in 1991 - yet the Israeli government stepped in within days to rebuild. Israelis are at their best during times of crises - it's the rest of the times where we need coaching on how to treat one another.
21. Please google 'Katrina' (nt)
(11.06.12)
22. To: NYC Girl at No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.06.12)
Amen to that. We have a vacation home in the Hamptons that took a hit. In the meantime, my sister, who lives in Kings Point, Long Island, has half of the Long Island Sound in her basement. Hello, FEMA, where are you? Nowhere to be found. Another four votes for Romney!
23. Filled with Hate and Pessimism
Daniel S ,   Johannesburg, SA   (11.06.12)
The Author of this article is clearly a sad sad soul who is filled with hate. He hates the religion which forms his roots, he hates his fellow citizens and he hates the leadership that he was involved in electing. I really just feel sorry for a person who cannot perceive good in anything other than himself and his views because obviously his life must be pretty sad
24. The scarey thing is...
Debbie ,   Israel   (11.06.12)
the author wrote a very tong in cheek article. Sorry to say he has made a good point. Our government and the home front command know how to reach in an emergency. But he has done a very good job of portraying how they work in day to day life. After all these are the same people who are kindly giving us 10 more days a year of daylight savings time. When it should be 10 more weeks. I also do think he was making light of the damaged and destruction from Sandy. Just poking fun at the joke of a government we have.
25. article
richard borchiver ,   toronto canada   (11.06.12)
This has to be one of the silliest most juvenile article ever written and published by your news report. To speculate on such a thing in this manner and to take this position seriously makes me question whether i will read this anymore
26. if sandy hit
jesusjuice ,   israel   (11.06.12)
if sandy hit israel there would be no more desert for moses to wander in
27. Tell this to the several million without power
jess ,   nyc   (11.06.12)
its been a week, millions still without power, tens of thousand homeless, this article must of been written by someone who lives "the grass is greener on the other side" lifestyle google coned outage map google lipa outage map google gas lines ny it is a big giant mess, I do not know how israel would do if this happened there, but I can tell you that you have no clue how big of a mess things are,
28. I have experienced Israel as a good country!
Yael Schlichting ,   currently Munich   (11.06.12)
You can draw anything in black! If you want to have everything orderly, tidy and clean, goto Switzerland! If you want security by all means and can accept, that security means the absence of freedom, goto Germany! Israel has its own disasters and it has real problems to solve. Actually, Israel is surrounded by problems. Granting safety and security to her peoples and maintaining as much freedom as possible is a tricky task and it is well managed by Israeli authorities. Maybe more precaution for the next major earthquake is required, but generally things are okay!
29. Agree with #2: "Waste of Space on the Web": End
John   (11.06.12)
30. Either unfunny satire, or magical thinking
Dan ,   Sandyland, NJ, USA   (11.06.12)
I can't decide whether this article is a piece of tasteless satire, or magical thinking by a self-hating Israeli who thinks that everything is somehow better and easier in America. I live in an area that was heavily impacted by Sandy, and it is no laughing matter. We have been without electricity and heat for over a week, temperatures are dropping to zero Celsius, and now we have no running water. Some people cannot leave town because they cannot get gasoline (it is being rationed and guarded by armed police, like in wartime), have nowhere to go, or don't want to end up in a dignity-robbing and crime-infested public shelter. If this is Ynet's idea of orderly disaster response, then please keep to yourself your dreams of streets paved with gold. And while you are at it, please stop inciting against the religious public by insinuating that Sabbath observance would interfere with disaster response. Instead, ask the religious (and non-religious) Israeli volunteers who saved countless lives in Haiti and elsewhere, seven days a week.
