I don't think there's really an argument about that, even amongst most Israelis and Israeli politicians, so your comment about Israel "lying" is nonsense. It's not a question of it being Syrian land. It's a question of it being a very geographically strategic piece of land. If Israel give the Golan back to Syria, Israel will be very vulnerable militarily. Quite simply, Israel can't afford to give a piece of land back to a country that plots its destruction (Syria).

11. Re #2
Andrew Brehm ,   Zurich   (11.14.12)
Right, we forgot. When the British and French took it from Turkey and gave it to the Arabs the Golan legally became part of Syria. But when the Jews took it from Syria, it legally remained part of Syria. International law seems confusing but is actually rather clear. If the British, French or Arabs invade land it's theirs to keep. If the Jews do it, it's an illegal occupation. I guess, #2, this is simply a cultural misunderstanding. You see, Jews believe in the concept of a written law that applies equally to all. So for a Jew it is sometimes difficult to understand that the world doesn't work that way and that the same land can change legal owners by the same process once legally and then illegally based on a law that is made up on-demand.
