How can you have dialogue or negotiation when the heart of the problem is that it is and always will be a waste of time. The Hamas Charter expressly calls for the eradication of the Jews of Israel and the demolition of the State. Unless they abrogate/change the basis for their being what is the point. Another few months of relative quiet until Iran has boosted their arsenal and the self delusion that is the hallmark of everything Arab, that in the midst of an abject defeat, they still claim victory. Reality and honesty is completely absent from their mentality. After every defeat inflicted upon the Arab nations the desire for martyrdom re emerges even stronger. Until there does emerge a pragmatic political reality (an impossibility by definition when applied to Arabs), Israel will have to in perpetuity decimate their military capability and somehow create a version of peace.

Sir, I have read many of your novels; Fima, To Know A Woman, Don't Call it Night, My Michael, A Perfect Peace, etc., I have admired your ability to perceive the human condition, the relationships of men & women, husbands & wives, sons & daughters. How you can fill pages with insightful precepts into the human soul and at the same time, degrade your own country by sucking up to those who would happily slit your throat – I've wondered why, over the course of your 70 - odd years on earth, you have not denounced your Israeli citizenship, and moved to an Arab country, where, it seems, your disturbed soul may at last, find some peace? Why have you not converted to Islam? Why do you continue to write in Hebrew?

The petition for peace needs to be directed at the arabs, not the Israelis. It is the arab side that has a charter proclaiming the right to wipe Israel off the amp. It is the arab side that teaches their kids their highest goal in life is to die in combat killing Jews. No, the petition was grossly misdirected.

Israel left Gaza. At that point in time Hamas could have focused on betterment of his people. No Rockets, No Blockade, Happy Gazans, Happy Israelis. Instead they focused on a path to Israel destruction - just look at Hamas TV programs, children indoctrination, Hamas Charter, Hamas Statements & Action and of-course Rockets galore. The statement just seat and talk ignores all that was before and all the drives Hamas. What would have happens if Hamas are given free rain , zero blockade, etc - to build such an arsenal of rockets so that a thousand iron domes could not respond sufficiently. Even with all the blockade it is obvious that they have manged within a short time to be a huge cache of rockets. will the ceasefire change their stated objectives or just allow them to perfect weapons, improve accuracy , explosive power, etc. Where are all theses do-gooders when close to 1000 rockets were falling on Israel? , Have you seen any petitions ?? - If you have a region who has clear racist ideology (no hard to see their TV, etc) , bent on Israel destruction, interested in Hunda but not peace (for the sake of building more military capability) - what is the meaning of temporary truth if the next phase is orders of magnitude worst. History if full of examples where backing down against murderous tyrannic forces which have no long term interest in peace only reasulted in worst situation not better - look at Chamberlin and you see Amos Oz. - big on words (an author after all) but little on consitency and little on reasl solutions apart from just talk. Like Talking to Hitler on a temporary truce would have changed much the course of his actions. Not everything in life is simple and there is a difference between a story which the Author molds to the reality of murderus regime such as Hamas - see how he is treating his own people, Christians in Gaza, women, etc - perhaps Amos Oz will suggest that all these people would be a nice talk around the table with Tea and cucumber sandwiches.
