David ,   haifa   (11.26.12)
I salute Barak. He was a great soldier and General who defended our country with skill and honor. Thank you. As a politician.... Thank you sir
63. I bet he probably will not move his family
jason white ,   afula, israel   (11.26.12)

64. So he wants to study, write, have time for
Arlene ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
family and have a good time. He forgot to mention also time to make more $$$$$$$$. He did prove that not all old soldiers make good defense ministers. Sometimes they just wont allow the IDF commander to do what is best for the country and his men. Barak, I think missed the point...the enemy is far better equipped then our previous battles, they also do not mind dying (72?? really)! They have rocket suppliers that want them to be fired at Israel.."oh no we didnt do it, its them Palies and Hizbos" thus they pull their puppets strings and get those "oh so smart" idiots to do their dirty work, and they are only too happy to oblige. Users and being used. Lets us hope the new DM will put his ego aside and do a good job.
65. I wish barak the best
marcel   (11.26.12)
barak served his country and I wish the best in his new pursuits. Since it would be very costly indeed to go house to house in gaza or in hezbollah villages since they have set up jihad defenses-ieds, mortars, russian cornet antitank rockets, in duplicate, with operatives on drugs or brainwashed, one could defeat it as halutz tried to with minimal troops (8000) and without asymmetrics, tripping the ieds, gas munitions and human shields(yes-arabs fight dirty) etc, it may be been wise to go house to house in gaza since likely idf would have suffered 200 dead and wounded seriously. And for what benefit?. On the other hand, philadelphi route could have been taken in a lightening strike but its merits would have to be weighed. Hamas took a hammer blow as their estimates of over 1 billion dollars in losses. and there is no goldstone so on reflection, while israelis would like to kill hamas to the last men especially haniyeh who sends his sister to israel for medical treatment, with the passage of time it may have been a wise operation. Now yaalon who cleaned out the west bank will be the new miinister of defence. And he is the right man for the job as he has been groomed for years. and if israel has to go all the way in the future, then he is the right man to do it.
66. Barak's resignation
jay ,   Montreal   (11.26.12)
Ehud will be always here to help when need arise and will wait his turn for his turn to fill the PRESIDENCY OF ISRAEL Glorious carrer, Bravo !
67. Barak
abe4u ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
Although I did not agree with his political views, and his concessions to Arafat, one can not take away his distinguished military career from him., plus the umpteen times he has risked his life for us Israelis in the past. I wish Barak all the best in his retirement, and thank you for not returning to politics.
68. He rescued IDF after Lebanon. The pro will be missed.
Michael ,   California, USA   (11.26.12)
At 70 it is reasonable for him to retire. Hopefully, he'll write a good manual for his followers on how to manage IDF well and how to be an excellent Defense Minister. He had just the right personality for these two jobs, but not for the job of a Prime Minister. He'll be remembered and missed for a long time.
69. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
DA RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (11.26.12)
And don't let the door hit you on your way out . Good news that he is leaving politics.
70. He wants to go on the $100,000 lecture circuit.
naro ,   jerusalem   (11.26.12)
I told everybody here that Bibi and Barak were unwilling to do what it takes to create a deterrent in Gaza because they wanted to avoid any prosecutions overseas so they can persue their lucrative public speaking career in Europe and USA. I was right as usual, and Barak is the first to go, Bibi will be next after he loses the election. Both sacrificed Israel to enhance their post political careers.
71. to 48
salma ,   jerusalem   (11.26.12)
when the s tik is down you will know where is p..............
72. Would B Good 4 Israel: But I'll Believe It When I See It.
My Planet Israel ,   LA-Jerusalem   (11.26.12)
This man has gone back on his word so many times, like a typical leftist; I find it hard to believe he'll leave completely. While hard experience doust the flames of his radical leftism, tempering it with more measure, he is still nasty towards nationalists and people who have a REAL passion for Jews and Israel. It would be nice if he left any and all fields where he might be of influence on politics...this is good for Israel.
73. So much hate.
Ronnie ,   Australia   (11.26.12)
Old soldiers.... less we forget. You where there when Israel needed you most. Enjoy your retirement and spoil and indulge your grandchildren.
