1. This time, I agree
Vlad   (11.28.12)
Maybe exchange a vote in favor for a promise not to take Israel to the ICC (and make it clear that breaking the promise will result in economic penalties). If Israel does this, and actually publicly asks the US to vote in favor too, Israel's standing in Europe will grow astronomically. Not amongst populations really, though a lot of people might have second thoughts, but the decision-makers will have a very public example of Israel actually trying to achieve peace.
2. Let's surprise the world
Ethan Schwartz ,   Eilat   (11.28.12)
We should encourage our friends to vote for Palestinian recognition in the UN. It is inevitable and we need to recognize it and use it in our favor.
3. Nonsense
michael Pielet ,   israel   (11.28.12)
This is total unadulterated nonsense.
4. Obama fan Zakaria was suspended by CNN for plagiarism
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (11.28.12)
But the only journalistic "standards" today are supporting Obama and marxism - so Fareed's suspension only lasted a few days.
5. Agree with Plocker
Misha ,   Tel Aviv   (11.28.12)
As the strong party in the region, Israel is uniquely positioned to make a generous gesture to the Palestinians. It's a simple cost/benefit analysis, nothing to lose and a lot to gain. Our leaders should be able to understand that...
6. Dreaming of a Spring Wonderland
tiki ,   belgium   (11.28.12)
Where is the road to the 'moderate Arab world? Again a lot of wishing & hoping, but no substance. When reality will kick in (always to late) even Mr. Plocker will see that the road leading to a moderate Arab world hasn't been build yet.
7. This article is the product of a sick mind.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.28.12)
What can one say? The "Palestinian" covenants all demand the destruction of Israel. "Palestinians" murder Jews every chance they get. Yet loons like the author wants Israel to help our genocidal enemies. This article is the product of a very sick mind.
8. Cool the rhetoric, Chaim
Vlad   (11.29.12)
I often agree with you, but not now, and not today. Voting in favor does not mean an automatic withdrawal to the 1967 lines. It is merely giving them upgraded status, and will be a massive public relations victory. The Palestinians aren't going to take it to the ICC - there'd be economic penalties for that. There is a lot more to gain than to lose.
9. nothing but defeat
bill ,   canada   (11.29.12)
israel bombs defenceless civilians and calls it a military victory; the last three actions were complete defeats; each time israel was the bad guy getting worse; you can count israels friends on one hand
10. leftist logic.
michael Pielet ,   israel   (11.29.12)
We have one arab terrorist state in Gaza this guy wants a second terrorist state in Judea and Samaria to make ti easier for the arabs and Iranians to attack and destroy israel.
11. Fareed
MONA ,   US   (11.29.12)
Fareed Zion is trying to kiss feet after been suspended by CNN ,what a low strategy to make money and be infamous ,you will go back to you nature someday and get kicked oue again.
12. Idealistic Utopias
Zichron   (11.29.12)
The Palestinians can get a state but they will not be satisfied with it just yet.The palestians want Palestine the Jews want Iisrael both from the sea to the river. The right of return of Palestinians to their homes from 1947 is holy grail as is the Al. Aska Mosque. The Jews have the Holocaust seared into their conscieness and are seething for revenge on nearly everyone.Even Barak is disliked and Peres and the Demography shift
13. Jerusalem Status Not Mentioned????
AniMe ,   Australia   (11.29.12)
Hello, what do you think is meant by the '67 Borders (actually the 49 Armistice Line - not a border). Jerusalem was divided into two by that war, and in the Arab Palestinians thinking it is part of the lands they are claiming. To them the Eastern part of Jerusalem is pre '67.
14. Zakaria also says Iran should have nuclear weapons.
bob k ,   orlando usa   (11.29.12)
Fareed Zakaria also claims that Iran should be allowed to develop nuclear weapons that this would help stabilize the region! The problem is not that Israel won't reach out to the PA it is that the PA has refused for the past 4 years to engage in unconditional peace talks with Israel. Abbas believed that Obam would somehow deliver a state to the PA without the Palestinians negotiating. In 2000 then PM Ehud Barak offered the 'west bank, gaza and east Jerusalem to the PA, Arafat refused and launched a war of terror agaisnt Israel - 1100 Israeis were killed by Palestinian terror attacks. Abbas saw Bush reject Arafat and accepted that terror would not work even though he always claims it is an option and he supports all past terror attacks on Israelis. It is up to the PA to negotiate for a state which must include Gaza without hamas etc.
15. #14 Abbas
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (11.29.12)
Because Netanyahu froze Jewish building despite Abbas refusal to negotiate and there was no real threat what Israel would do if Abbas refused to negotiate, why would he? Imagine if Netanyahu started massive Jewish building, but announced he would stop the moment Abbas agreed to negotiate? But this is no longer important. Netanyahu must immediately announce he will not negotiate with the corrupt Fatah/Hamas but only with the authentic representatives of the Arabs: Hamas or the Mukhtarim.
16. #8 Vlad. I'm telling it like it is.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.30.12)
#8 Vlad. The bottom line is this. Plocker invites Israel to support those who want to mass murder us all. He writes in favor of those who constantly inundate us with rockets every change they get. This is not normal. This is not rational. This lunacy can no longer be allowed to inform Israeli policies.
17. Chaim is RIGHT!
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (11.30.12)
PSEUDO-INTELLECTUAL nonsense is the stock in trade of lots of people in the media and politics. They depend on making a living trying to come across clever (the only ones with a brain), neutral, politically correct and oh so deeply humane. As if keeping a conflict alive and simmering (with far more physical and psychological pain) by politically and legalistically not tolerating a military and physical solution, which DOES EXIST, is oh so humane and ethical. The truth is that their thinking is not ethical at all, because the method of "thought" is purely abstract, a sad byproduct of lots of Western education (especially legalistic rubbish instead of real justice based on reality). Everything gets a quick lable and is superficially the same (take e.g. states in the UN, the ultimate club of abstract nonsense producers) and totally lacks real connection to CONCRETE REALITY. A DEEPER AND BROADER analysis of (Jewish, Christian, Islamic and General) history&geography shows that the TRULY ETHICAL, fair and just way to end "the conflict" for all parties involved is to achieve BALANCE FIRST. Proper BALANCE and PEACE in the light of all historical and present factors can ONLY be achieved via a SECURE BIG ISRAEL and Arab transfer. The "Palestinians" are not a separate nation at all, they are Arabs and the Arabs have many countries. The UN and Arab League should focus on Arab TRANSFER . The core of the problem is still the ESSENTIAL NONACCEPTANCE by Islam of the Jewish People and our HOMECOMING. That is why ultimately the ONLY way forward to achieve balance for all sides probably will be the REMOVAL of hostile MAGNET buildings on the Temple Mount. If done properly it will be the most peaceful and ethical act as the beginning of the end of the "the conflict". Ishmael is family and meant to be a GREAT NEIGHBOUR. But they cannot live in OUR HOUSE as well!
18. S.Plocker dreamt "Jlem isn't even mentioned.." It is,genius,
ab   (12.01.12)
together with the pal "right to return" ,masked as "solution to refugee problem". Other things Israel "can live with" is demand of "contigious pal state" ,a pal "corridor" WB-Gaza splicing Israel in two . People like Plocker brought Oslo and can't even comprehend what's going on around them
