1. Things more complicated than author implies...
SK ,   Tel Aviv   (11.29.12)
Israel in the end will not decide who amongst the Palestinian Arabs is the popular leader. One can rightfully criticize Netanyahu on this or that,, but I think you are overstating Israel's abilities in this arena. Secondly, the truth is that the people of the West Bank and Gaza are quite distinct from one another. Gazans are for the most part decendants of Bedouin Arabs from the Arabian peninsula, while most of those in the West Bank are city or village dwellers. They are not really of the same tribe which describes why they get along as well as various groups in Syria. Pushing responsibility for Gaza to their ideological soulmates in Egypt is not necessarily bad for Israel, nor is buying time vis-a-vis the West Bank. What is the expiration date of the Hashemite Kingdom? Might things not look different if that regime falls and the Palestinians gain control of Jordan. Look around you. It woud only seem like it is a matter of time.
2. This is the time of JUDGEMENT. ALL men and leaders are being
Isaiah 5:20 ,   for Israel   (11.29.12)
tested by G-d to see if they side with Israel or the PA. VERY SOON his rewards and punishments will be delivered (uncluding upon Israelis and Israeli leaders) based on if they would divide the land. The JUDGEMENT of G-d must happen but it's not going to be pretty. Woe to those who call evil good; and good evil.....
3. this article make NO SENSE
charles   (11.29.12)
talk facts!!! not opinion!!! just because the world recognizes a pa state that does not mean it is isolated. on the contrary!!! by israel holding its own & not giving in to a terrorist regime, it is showing the world that it can stand strong. the same ppl who said that israel will have to talk to hama are now critising netanyanu for his so valled compromize with hamas. his compromize with hamas which is not recognition; it is common sense. does shimon want 500 israelis dead? or does he hust hate netanyahu & solid common sense reason. by not giving in, israel is the winner the pa will have it's or perhaps weeks or celebration, but they will still not have a state. they still will rely on israel for food, shelter, utilities & livlihood. THINK BEFORE YOU TALK!!!!!
4. NOTHING would be worse than an agreement with Abbas.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.29.12)
Why would any sane Jew or Israeli want an agreement with world famous Holocaust Denier Abbas? It would cost us Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, defensible borders, freedom from constant rocket attacks, freedom from inundation by hostile Arabs...It would gain us a nine mile (15 minute tank ride) waist. NOTHING would be worse than an agreement with Abbas.
5. Netanyahu is a coward - Pray for Israel
Rachel ,   US   (11.29.12)
Someone who is afraid of the ragtag gang of #Hamas is not going to do a thing against Iran.
6. Typical Yediot anti- Netanyahu nonsense
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.29.12)
The bias against Israel in the U.N. is endemic and longstanding. Remember 'Zionism is Racism' the vote against Israel that took place over thirty years ago. To blame Prime Minister Netanyahu for this anti- Israel U.N. vote is totally unfair. No matter what Israel does the Palestinians will receive overwhelming support.
7. The PA refused to negotiate with Israel - No spin.
bob k ,   orlando usa   (11.29.12)
8. Hamas war crimes
another Jarda ,   Czech Rep   (11.29.12)
Please tell me why not to sue Hamas leaders for war crimes at the International Criminal Court? Maybe I am missing something? Or was theirs immunity part of ceasefire understandings? (Very unlikely!!!) Thank you.
9. No. 5 Rachel you don't know what you are talking
(11.29.12)
To invade Gaza didn't take courage to save the lives of many soldiers was an intelligent move after completing the destruction of 97% of the tasks, initially proyected
10. Who cares about Iran
Bill Klien ,   USA   (11.29.12)
Constant appeasement is more a danger than Iran Time for Israel to annex area C and low populated areas of Area B. The French British consulate in Jerusalem and any other country's consulate that votes for this resolution should be closed. Israel showing weakness is the cause of all of this they don't fear Israel will do anything. Quit worrying about the ICC And your personal butts. International Law is on Israel's side AG Weinstien is nothing more in my opinion than a agent for Obama who pushes legal opinions and rewrites international law to motivate his own agenda. He is basically a ambulance chaser personal lawyer not a International Lawyer. For god sake fight back Israel.
11. The Israeli people put Nethanyahu in the PM seat
Sam ,   Kfar Saba   (11.29.12)
... which was like declaring the death of Israel. Now they want another 4 years of him, just to make sure that Israel is well and truly trampled in to the ground. Heart breaking!
12. Credit goes to who...
Dan Levy ,   TA Israel   (11.29.12)
To quote Abraham Lincoln "You can fool some of the people all the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time." Looking forward to seeing Abraham Lincoln proved wrong...........
13. please tell me how to connect the dots here
zionist forever   (11.29.12)
Cast Lead European leaders visited Israel as a show of support Liberman was calling for Abbas to be toppled ( one of the many wild ideas he has sometimes ) Yisrael Katz is not threatening to stop electricity supply. Israel, US, Canada, Micronesia are isolated because they reject the bid. The PM is preparing to spin a story we need to accept the UN bid for continued US support on Iran which is going to cost 10 billion Shekels to prepare for. Whilst we are fighting a war in Gaza the IAEA an Iran has a plan to hide nuclear equipment. Please explain the connections here, what do any of these have to do with each other. I would also love to know what continued US support we are getting on the Iranian issue. For years all the US has been willing to do whilst Iran enriched Uranium and built underground facilities was talk and go round and round in circles and there was always still room for diplomacy so wouldn't exactly say the US is supporting us on stopping Iran get a nuke.
14. What about Olmert?
Matt C ,   Canada   (11.29.12)
Netanyahu is not the only Israeli prime minister whose peace attempts have been rejected by Abbas and the Palestinians: every Israeli government in recent memory has seen its attempts rejected, and to accuse Netanyahu of a "lack of diplomatic initiative" after the freeze, an unprecedented diplomatic gesture, is just ridiculous. As for Israel's diplomatic "isolation," it boils down to the same problem Israel has faced since its establishment in 1948, the Islamic states present a unified anti-Israel block and the other countries are not brave enough or willing enough to stand against them. In fact, this is why Palestinian leaders like Abbas feel confident in rejecting peace in the first place, they believe that no matter what they do, Israel will be the one blamed for preventing peace, and this gives them hope that eventually, if they hold out long enough, they can "win" the conflict without ever agreeing to anything with Israel, which has always been their goal.
15. Humanitarian Forces
Zivron   (11.29.12)
Humanitarian Forces and Instincts have yearned for a Palestinian state Netanyahu is a small player in reality .these humanitarian forces are somewhat over optimistic and opportunistic but people hope for peace most for both Jews and Arabs .these idealistic forces have power in this troubled area. The Jews can keep most of the settlements in a land swap containing Palestinians living in Israel.Tibi could be the first ambassador and Haninyeh Minister for Reconciliation of Judaism and Islam with Rabbi Melamed of the Mountain of Blessings.
16. #1
dan ,   DC   (11.30.12)
good points and for those who read the news, the end of assad is very close and the iranian economy is almost completely destroyed. things are going to look a lot different in 5 years.
17. Where are we going?
Sheol Goldman ,   Israel   (11.29.12)
All indicators show that our Goddamn Jewish state is going to send us in cascades back to Europe. **** you grandpa for bringing us here. How can e survive the malice of Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, Mursi's Egypt? and what would happen if Muslim brotherhoods takeover in Jordan and maybe in Syria.
18. No, the credit goes to Obama...
FreddyNYC ,   NYC USA   (11.30.12)
his statement that the 1967 armistice lines were the starting place for negotiations put out the dots; the UN just connected the dots for him.
19. Shimon Shiffer a radical nutjob
Dan Kelso   (11.30.12)
Hey Shimon, go read Benny Morris's article Exposing Abbas, which showed Abbas for the Holocaust denying racist hate monger he is. http://nationalinterest.org/commentary/exposing-abbas-5335
20. Spin it any way you want
frank ,   rehovot   (11.30.12)
You caved to the US. You are allowing another terrorist state, you are giving the enemy comfort. You are allowing terrorist in our knesset. You are allowing terrorist to enter our country. You have given up our right as a free nation. You have taken away our rights as citizens of a democracy. You have bowed to the US and world. Now the time has come for you to go and allow someone with a spine and without the spin to say we won when we lost. We need action and we get inaction and indecision. Spin? Spin we lost and will continue to lose if we do not act as an independent nation!
21. A Palestinian observing state is very good for Israel
Jonathan   (11.30.12)
Don't know why ynet is still so biased against Netanyahu indeed. The fact that so many people/countries are blindly supporting Abbas, who is a Holocaust denier, and was never into negotiating or talking to Netanyahu or Israel at all. Do people really believe that the Hamas won and Bibi lost? I don't think so. The fact that the UN is happy to grant the Hamas with an upgraded status, despite all the clear evidence of what's happening in Gaza, is the problem. Not Netanyahu, or Israel. Abbas never wanted peace. He wants to 'win'. Let's see what Hamas will be doing with this extra 'credit' from the UN. I predict nothing less than more war crimes against the Gaza population. The funny thing is that Gaza would have never received any form of 'statehood' from Egypt, or any form of independence. But if that's what the UN wants - so be it. Israel needs to protect its own place. The Palestinians are not a 'security risk' anyway. So stop blaming Netanyahu with the world's anti-Israel moves. You are just playing into Hamas' hands.
22. This clarifies a question
Miche Norman ,   Hod Hasharon   (11.30.12)
This article actually clarifies a question that has been bothering me - Bibi's bomb diagram looked like a sort of 16th century hand grenade - nothing like a nuclear bomb and i couldn't work out why he chose that shape rather than a bomb shape. And now its clear his spherical bomb spins better!!
23. 14
zionist forever   (11.30.12)
Olmert did come close to a deal that included Israel give up soverignty of Temple Mount, Church of the Sepilca, City of David and the Kotel. It would be put into the hands of an international trust made up of: Israel US Palestinian state Jordan Saudi Arabia Abbas wanted it to also include Egypt & Vatican This deal was also going to be presented to the UN for approval before the public was even going to be told about it. As well as the holy places he was willing to give up large chunks of Jerusalem including some Jewish neighborhoods. 5000 - 15,000 arabs would get a right of return and compensation would be paid to those who lost their home. The Jordan Valley which would have put Ben Gurion Airport in range of short range rockets which Hamas have thousands of. Add to that of course Gaza and about 97% of Judea & Samaria. Olmert really was willing to give up everything for nothing so of course he was very close to a deal. Despite the fact he had Obama backing him Abbas has made excuse after excuse to avoid talking to Bibi. Even when BIbi offered a 10 month building freeze Abbas refsused to talk but 4 years later in the west Abbas smells of roses & Bibi is the man who killed the peace process.
24. 17. Where are we going?
lightharry ,   New York   (11.30.12)
You are going back to New York or Philadelphia where you came from. :)

27. SCRAP ***YOUR*** crazy spin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (11.30.12)
Oslo is ***DEAD***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
28. The Jews history will repeat itself
David ,   Israel   (11.30.12)
We will forever be doomed no matter what way we act, history has proven this time and time again. And why ? Because we are a nation of people that never has been heavy with force. This is why we're defeated on the days sitting on Masada and its why we will be defeated in the future. Our value for life, though beautiful as it is, is our downfall. We continue to think with Jewish logic that words will find reasons with the Arabs. Any other country would have gone into Gaza and had Hamas begging for whatever option they were to dictate. Not us who get bombarded then ridiculed by the Palestinians that they achieved victory and granted higher status at the UN. And this is why we are doomed, because in the future any means of defence by our military will end up in the international court. We will be continuously attacked and faced with more and more demands by the Palestinians while being isolated further and further by the international community.
29. No, the credit goes to Peres, Rabin and Beilin
AK   (11.30.12)
And the rest of the supporters of the Oslo fiasco. What happened in the UN was what the critics of Oslo had foreseen in 1993. I was being accused in 1993 of being over pessimistic at predicting a catastrophe, but the idiots for peace had their day. Ultimately, the responsibility for putting Israel in this untenable position goes to your hero, Rabin, who was the PM. Lets not forget Peres and his treasonous ' negotiations' that the enemy skillfully used to achieve what we are facing now. Lets hear the TRUTH, for once.
30. All the posts and the article show short term thinking
AK   (11.30.12)
Israel has won battles but never wars. After 1967 hugely improbable win Israeli leaders never bothered thinking long term. If they did, they would have razed those mosques on Temple Mound, and pushed out the Arabs from Gaza and Judea. Instead, they arrogantly gloated when the enemy painted them as a Goliah. Instead of preparing themselves for the next war, they were depending more and more on Americans, knowing full well that American No1 friend is Saudi Arabia, followed closely by the Gulf states. Israelis were reactive. They allowed the Soviet Communists to infiltrate and indoctrinate their children, they traded Sinai for a worthless piece of paper, they kept on building roads schools, hospitals and universities for the enemies and allowed them to work within Israel. They allowed Arafat to live in Lebanon, when they should have finished the terrorist off. And they allowed Peres to conduct illegal and treasonous ' diplomacy, instead of putting him in prison. Rabin was not a hero, he was an idiot who could not think and strategize beyond a year and those that followed had no guts to scrap the whole deal once Arafat broke the first condition of the 'peace'. In truth, the Israelis are being led by the 'international community' and the UN to their doom not unlike the Germans led the Jews to their doom in the ghetto - one concession at the time, accompanied by threats. Only this time, the Israeli government could and should have appealed directly to the people of the world since Israel still have sympathy of many people. Instead, acting like Judenrat, Israeli governments publicly covered for the enemy. Allowing Arafat his 'kingdom' while he directed one bloody terrorist attack after another, withdrawing from Lebanon, and leaving allies defenseless; leaving Gaza and allowing the establishment of a terrorist statelet, which Israelis support with electricity, water, medicine, money, supplies. And then, there was no going back. The whole World is against Israel, and that includes Obama's America. And sorry, but Czechs and Micronesians, nor Canadians can offer much help. Isn't it high time for some honest discussion in Israel, devoid of party politics, to determine what can be done, if anything, to save 6 million Jewish lives? I am sick to my stomach watching Livni and the Laborites trying to grab power in a burning house, not to put down the fire, but to 'rule'. The truth is that Israeli leaders allowed bullies to push them around, allowed traitors to do their work within the county borders and allowed the renegade Israelis spread anti-Israel propaganda, without any fear of retribution. Well, being nice, tolerant and reasonable does not work in unreasonable world and Israeli leaders should have known this and planned for it.
