31. #30, Those votes were bought
Jake   (11.30.12)
with usual oily blackmail Those who voted for "Palestine" are voting as a bloc, much the same as union members vote for the candidate their union bosses tell them to vote for, "or else". The Arab and Islamic blocs, and the "non-aligned movement" vote as a bloc against Israel, no matter what. The European nations which voted in favor of "Palestine" are either part of the non-aligned bloc, or they have large domestic Islamic consituencies to appease, or they have traditional ties with the Arab countries to uphold. On the other hand, 41 countries chose to abstain. That is NOT an endorsement of palestinian "statehood".
32. #28 US support for the UN will wane
Jake   (11.30.12)
long before its support for Israel. If the UN continues to stick its fingers in the eyes of the Americans, all the US has to do is pull the plug on that deadbeat organization, and declare a certain place in Manhattan to be Occupied Territory. More dramatic things have happened before. No one is certain today exactly where the Bastille stood.
33. So you don't need the world or UN, you have USA and that is
Anonymous ,   TX, USA   (11.30.12)
I m not going to address the numerous fallacies in this article. I just wanna ask this. Have you considered that the tide in the US is also shifting. It won't take long before US starts changing its stance toward Israel. What will you do then, if you haven't come to your senses and accepted what the entire world is thinking as a just solution which an - Israeli and a Palestinian state in WB & & Gaza
34. tayfun about occupied land
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (11.30.12)
If you know history Jews were originated in Palestine. Everywhere you dig you find Jewish history in and around Jerusalem that precedes Muslim history. Palestine is indeed Jewish homeland. Now let's talk about Anatolia: When you dig it you find Greek and Roman history preceding Turkish history. For example in the middle of Izmir Agora ruins are Greek, Ehesus, Milletus, Dydim, Pergamum Troy are all Greek, Antalya's Apendos, the Aya Sofya, Yerebatan cisterns, in Istanbul also Greek preceding the Sultanahmet. If you go and dig around Van and Kars you see the Armenian history preceding Turkish (Selcuk) history. You go a little bit south from van to Diyarbakir and Gaziantep it is a mix of Kurt and Arab history preceding Turkish history. Based on that when are you Turks going to leave the Greek, Armenian and Kurdish land and go back to central Asia to China's current Xinxian province and join your real Turkish roots?
35. I Told You So Israel
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (11.30.12)
One comments that Israel doesnt have many friends. Durng WW2, the Jews had few friends and fewer still willing to save them..in many ways. Canada, etc. had room for millions. as did the US. We Jews ended the war launched against us by inventing the bomb sans the West might havelost untimately to the Japanese and Germans. 600 Jews were housed temporarily in NY/State, but remained. Finally, we created the War Board at the end of the war. 6m Jews, w/o arms. The situation now is different. After 67, Israel wanting peace, got the 3 nos. It returned Sinai 3 times..to get Morsi and the MB. Syrias rebels are not in love with the Jews. Its really simple to understand: 6m Jews ( 13m total) vs 500m Arab and 1.4m Muslims and their assortment of supporters. But why is Israel in the W. Bk and Jerusalem, is never asked? Israel has a few friends who understand the implications of this vote. Today Palestine, tomorrow what. Here in the USA there is a movement to make Texas a country. And what if the UNGA approves? Obviously talking fora compromise is almost impossible, thus the PA argument. So perhaps a total and lasting peace is unachievable? Other than an embargo against cement into the Strip and some discomfort at the green line, who is being affected? In fact, Pales guerrillas always joined their brethren when Israel was attacked. But Israel makesmistakes..the 22 settlements vs 2 brigades, give or take in the Gaza Strip. No capital punishment. Coddlint during Nakba Day, and gence protests weekly. Riots on the Mount, violations of cease fires.. ceaefires prematurely. If Hamas wins one war, its all over. Would they back down? Iran is laughing while it rearms Hamas. Turkey and Egypt are waiting in the wings to aid their so-clalled brothers, who have languished in camps since 48, waiting to return to Jerusalem..and that fantasy is getting more real each day. Thank G0d for Peres and Ben Gurion who understood the nature of the problem decades ago, and started developing Israel's 400 nukes to be. But, until Israel wakes up form its delusions....the Arab world will "win".
36. 350,000 vs 3,000, Such a Deal
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUsA   (11.30.12)
In a way guys, the UNGA action is a blessingforIsrael, which has lived a delusionfor decades. Some mis-guided Jews believe there can be peace. Why? Is there peace between north and South Korea, the Sudans, etc? Israel has always been in a violent and dysfunctional part of the planet. Does the Earth go around the Sun? Nothing has changed vis a vie the Jews since 1933. yet we are lulled into a fantasy..and deluding ourselves. Fatwas include every Jew, all 14m, not just Israel. Where are the 1m man demonstrations in "Jewish" NYC? Why are we focused on Orthoedox who wont go into the army, when Israel alrady has an army. Why dont 7,000 young Jews from theDiaspora volunteer for army service, or relocae temporarily. Why do Jews go to Israel seeking a cemetary plot only or appearing at charity events? GThere are 600,000 Israelis living outside Israel, just ask that guy from Hungary, who has Jews on the brain. Abbas did not just seek the 67 borders..he wants all of Israel with its malls, factories, houses, arms depots, planes, etc. as compensatinfor Palestinia suffering since 48. He is furious that 3,000 apartment units are in the works, yet proposes all 350,000 Israelis move out ASAP from the WB and Jerusalem. Now thats chutspah.
37. #19 Uncouth Jake
Michael ,   Haifa   (11.30.12)
My military ID is 438471...I have been in 4 wars defending this country...who the hell are you to determine that I am persona non grata, because I hold different views from your own ? What are your credentials that give you the right to be judgemental ? At the very best, you are a fool...at the worst, YNET would probably not publish my true opinion of you.
38. @ Noah Lev - Stop your Doom and Gloom speeches
Anonymous ,   TX, USA   (11.30.12)
No one is buying them anymore. Israel no longer facing any existantial threats. There is no more any Arab state able or even wanting to invade Israel. There are some small factions making a bit of trouble, sending a couple of rockets...but no army is going to come at you in your homes. The Arabs - And Arab people have had enough of wars, the majority of them are supporting PA diplomatically and financially to acheive statehood...and that is it. The only real threat comes from Iran building a nuclear bomb, and on this subject all Arab states are actively working with the US & UN to stop that threat from ever happening. Arab Jews are increasingly being welcomed back in their arab countries that they have fled from. Enough already....Live and Let live...Eventually, If Israel makes peace with Palestinians and subsequently all Arab nations, they won't have to squeeze themself in Israel, they can be free to relocate and live in the cool mountains of Lebanon, or the Sunni beaches of the UAE...or go make a living in the Libyan desert...It is stupid to hang on to the West Bank, when you can be citizen of the world.
39. Jake 32 : Don't be childish.
Anonymous ,   TX, USA   (11.30.12)
One can also assume that if the US pulls the plug from the UN, don't you think the UN can respond by removing the US from the Security Council & the General assembly. Who whould then veto any resolution that would impose sanctions on Israel. Who would then keep the UN sanctions on Iran in place? And don't worry about the UN, there are a lot of Rich countries that would finance the UN should the US decide to stop paying its dues.
40. #21, Michael
Anna ,   Montreal, Canada   (11.30.12)
No I don't. Israel has a strong democratic judicial system. These sort of disputes are not to any extend can be decided by the other governments. Michael, you write you live in Haifa. It's a city in which Jews and Arabs live freely and peacefully together. Show me one Arab city in any neighboring country where Jews are living side by side with Arabs without fear. Jews were kicked out of their ancestral lands in 1947. Maybe we have to bring this injustice to the international court in Hague? What happened with the Jewish possessions after they were thrown from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, etc...? Mr. Abbas said there won't be any Jews in new Palestinian state. Maybe it's time to pack, Michael? You'll feel much better among your own people then in Israel. You'll be compensated for your losses. It will be done in a civilized manner- exchange of the population. No one will die or suffer. Would you accept the proposal?
41. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.30.12)
No nation can be created out of whole cloth. Where do you plan to put "Palestine?" Israel's going to annex Judea and Samaria. Who is going to invade Israel on behalf of a terrorist rabble? More importantly -- even if you manage to put together a rag-tag indifferent military force -- you will face an Israel that will pull out all the military stops and a fearsome arsenal. Should that come to pass, when the dust settles, you will be left with a very much larger Israel, and one that will be very disinclined to give the international community the time of day. You need to brush up on international law, by the way. General Assembly resolutions are nonbinding and unenforceable. And although the Security Council can create a state, the resolution would have to be passed under Chapter VII of the Charter, not Chapter VI. Only Chapter VII resolutions are binding and enforceable. And should Israel choose to withdraw from the United Nations, it doesn't matter what the Security Council does or does not do -- Israel will no longer be a member state, and United Nations resolutions will not be binding upon her. The issue is not one of recognition. The issue is coming up with the land upon which to have a state. Unless the ersatz "Palestinians" are willing to settle for Gaza -- in which case you are looking at a long and protracted civil war -- you do need negotiations with Israel, and the events on Thursday sounded the death knell for negotiations. The ersatz "Palestinians" -- predictably enough -- continue to be their own worst enemy.
42. To #34 Greeks and armenians are anatolian people
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (11.30.12)
I do not refuse Greeks and Armenian are also anatolian civilizations. However neither Arabs nor Kurds are anatolian people before Turkish arrival. In fact all Kurdish tribes were immigrated to Anatolia by decree of Yavuz Sultan Selim(Selim III) Ottoman Empire to balance then majority of christian population. Kurdis are originaly coming from Kirman around Bashra in Persian Gulf (Iraq part as a bay) When you ask kurds their language they say our languege KIRMANC that is Kirman language, lsomehow they are related to GERMAN(Kirman) As for Greeks, current greeks are not real greeks. Greek nation is a patch work and only possiby 10% real greek other are all Christian Turks and slavs. Yes for jews as a part of historical fabric of region but Zionism is not historical part of region. It is an innovation and not accepted.
43. Tayfun # 42
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (12.01.12)
1. I guess you already agreed that teh only historical Jewish land in the world is current Israel therefore Jews are at home in Israel. They have no other place to go. Therefore by your own words Jews belong in Israel. 2. Again by your own words Anatolia, and Thrace are not Turkish homeland. Based on that Jews are not occupiers but Turks are, - by your own words.
44. Hypocrisy & Evil
calabi ,   sydney Australia   (12.01.12)
Well said Israel! UN is corrupted beyond repair. UN portray itself like righteous an holy but they are eating corpse and drinking blood of victims in every political strive! (End)
45. #39 If the US stops funding the UN
Jake   (12.01.12)
the UN will collapse like a rubber dinghy, when the plug is pulled out. The League of Nations is no longer with us today. Don't think that the UN, which has been equally inept in preserving world peace, will have a different fate.
46. Michael #37 You are not the only one
Jake   (12.01.12)
Many Israelis have fought and defended Israel with distinction, and I am not trying to belittle your achievements in that regard... just to tell you, that reading your posts, it strikes me that the opinions you voice are the preserve of the extreme left fringes of the Jewish sector in Israel, and appear to be more in sync with views current among the Arabs, many of whom fervently believe that "Haifa is an occupied Palestinian city" and that "sooner or later the Jews will go back to where they came from". P.S. We live in an age of hackers and identity theft. Don't post your personal details like military ID on the net.
47. UN Recognition - No big deal
Tamar Kuperstein ,   Canada   (12.01.12)
In the eyes of many around the world who do not delve into issues too deeply and who naively believe in the UN, this is some kind of endorsement. Also it would allow the Palestinians to bring charges against individual Israeli leaders in the International Court which is stacked up against Israel.
48. Fictional Palestine depends on Israeli support.
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.01.12)
The day Israel stops supporting the terrorist P.A. is the day the whole scam blows sky high. That day is coming soon.
49. #22, Human Being
Howard Immanuelson ,   US   (12.01.12)
There's just a couple of major issues with your post #22. The "Palestinians" are not the indigenous people of the land -- not even close. Ignoring the fact that the Jews had lived there for thousands of years, the vast majority of Pals arrived in the disputed territories well AFTER Jews began returning to the land in large numbers in the mid 1800's. If you read any history instead of citing folklore here you'd know that. Second, the Pals are not entitled to basic human rights? Dramatic, aren't you? They are completely under PA rule in their areas -- and if they ever decide they'd like their own country more than they'd like to destroy Israel then they'll likely get their own country. Of course, being yet another Arab state they won't have any human rights at all but that's a different matter entirely. Be careful what you wish for -- you might just get it.

tiki ,   belgium   (12.01.12)
Exept Uhm-Smum, Ben Gurion uttered another pearl from his mouth: "It doesn't matter what the world is saying, it matters what Israel/Jews are doing". And Israel is doing good! While the upgraded Palestinians are celebrating their virtual state, Israel is building another 3000 concrete houses, build by upgraded Palestinian workers......., for starters!
51. @30
Amerikaner Yid ,   USA   (12.01.12)
Go to Foreign Policy website. Their article says that France did some arm-twisting, because talks on EU budget are approaching and there are calls for more austerity, which Spain, Italy, Greece, and some of the Eastern EU nations can not afford. As for France itself - 10% of its population is Muslim, and the Socialists can't safely win without their support. But you are right, it does show exactly how far your "friends" are prepared to go.
52. #22, So, are you indigenous to Berkeley, California?
Jake   (12.01.12)
Know why Jews are called Jews? Because they come from Judaea. Know why Arabs are called Arabs? Because they come from Arabia. It's that simple. Why make things complicated?
53. @33
Amerikaner Yid ,   USA   (12.01.12)
Dear Anonymous in TX, Have you considered that demographics change in the US as well? Florida does not have to go Democratic. New York State, while less likely, may change its voting patterns too. Not to mention Ohio. The issue with Republican predictions that Jews will start voting for them are ridiculous, because of the Republicans pretending that Democratic candidates are worse for Israel - and the majority of the Jewish population, I believe, recognizes that, that these are just fear-stoking practices. But what if there was a clear choice between the candidates, where there was a real difference in their approaches, will American Jews keep to Democratic candidates? I am far from a one-issue voter, but an influx of Jews into the Republican Party may not only change the outcome of elections in key states, but would also force the party to turn much more moderate on social issues.
54. @39
Amerikaner Yid ,   USA   (12.01.12)
And you're assuming that the UN will remain exactly the same as it is today, as well as that foreign relationships will remain just the same as today. Israeli exports are shifting. Next year, China is expected to overtake UK as the #2 purchaser of Israeli goods and services. Trade with India and Brazil has also increased. Will at some point China think that investing more heavily into a relationship with Israel is the way to go? Will India and Brazil obtain permanent seats in the Security Council? Israel just beat out American weapon-makers in its sales to India, and it seems to be the trend there.
55. @39
Amerikaner Yid ,   USA   (12.01.12)
Additionally, you're forgetting that Israel is the most stable regime in the Middle East. All over the Arab world we just had two years of "Arab Spring." And what do we have? We have Egypt turned Islamist (slowly but surely). We have Islamists getting power in other places. Where the regimes stood - they have very shaky foundations. My point in all of these posts being that there are too many factors to make any predictions. After all, in the middle of the last century Israel was friends with Iran. In the 90's, Israel and Turkey were best buds. Now, some of the Arab govts quietly support Israel as bulwark against Iran. This is the Middle East. Everyone may act friendly, but behind their back, there's always a knife ready to go. (And, yes, I recognize this is very Orientalist imagery, but this is also reality.)
56. Dead wrong
StevieT ,   USA   (12.01.12)
There are two types of war being waged on Israel. The war of deadly ordnance, and the war of propaganda. The first of these is at a standstill, but in the equally important war for the minds of the world, a bunker buster was just dropped on the Knesset. understanding this is vitally important in countering it. Ignore the signicance of these events at great peril.to your country.

Absolutely one of the best retorts I have ever seen on this red herring issue. I hope your message goes mainstream.

"why live where you're not wanted", you said. in the 1930s, europeans scrawled graffiti over jewish stores and synagogues saying "jews, go back to palestine". now they are chanting "jews, go back to europe.". the jews have now taken control of their destiny and will live where THEY want to, not wherever anybody else wants them to (which, apparently, is nowhere).

how ironic of you to preach to Israel after you stole my land. You need to return California, Arizonia, Texas to Mexico. You are living on occupied land---get out or maybe Mexicans should start sending over rockets ?
