31. Circumcision
Fidel ,   Ghana   (12.29.12)
That any one decides NOT to obey the covenant is his/her choice. The blessings are there in the bible not in the internet for those who choose to obey.Definitely there are (those who say they Jews but are not, but are snynagouge of.......).
32. #11 john - a ridiculous premise
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.29.12)
“reduces sexual pleasure”?! Has anyone failed to reach a climax because of circumcision? There may be the possibility that climax is delayed, in which case there is benefit for the woman.

is that the only ones opposing circumcision are gentilized Israelis who will likely become intermarried yordim anyway. so no big deal.
34. Circumcision ,...

A custom evolved in nomadic desert tribes that were forced to wash their private parts once a month using their or animal's urine. A barbaric custom in a world of households with running water and a bar of soap ,...

zionist forever   (12.30.12)
The woman even says her main problem is the social one, she is worried the child will come home one day and say "mom why did you do this to me? They made fun of me today " or she doesn't want to see the baby in pain... its always about WHAT I DONT WANT. Children tease about everything its, part of their nature and we all got teased at least once in school. Not circumcising the child is not going to make him imune from childhood teasing so there will always be those days when he comes home crying about how the kids teased him over something. In Israel its more likely he will be teased if he isn't circumcised considering the majority are, then he will be coming home asking momwhy didn't you circumcise me so I can be like the other boys. Sounds to me the adults don't want circumcision because they are thinking about what they want not whats best for the child like the medical benefits.
36. #28 He is a Jew, ask a rabbi.
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (12.30.12)
Many Jewish men from the former USSR were circumcised in Israel after their aliyah at an older age. Jews in the time of the inquisition who couldnt be circumcised had it done if they were able to escape to Holland.. They were always Jews. It didnt make them gentiles. They just cant participate in certain mitzvot until they have it done.

38. Stupid Arguments
American Sabrah ,   Israel   (12.30.12)
Why should we ban a an ancient practice because of some disgruntled "progressive" hiloni decides that it is barbaric and obsolete? Circumcisions can result medical complications if not performed right as does surgery. If your child needed surgery, would you deny him such a procedure because the thought of him being cut open makes you uncomfortable? Would you wait till he is old enough to decide whether he wants to go under the knife or not? There are risks of surgeries being botched up causing permanent damages and even deaths but there is no outcry of surgery being a barbaric medical practice. Besides babies tend to heal a lot quicker than adults do when circumcised. Plus its a lot more painful for the adult.

I agree with you. I discovered my heritage late in life and was circumcised at age 63. Yes, it was difficult. I would do it over. I would rather go through a little suffering than deny the Torah and the faith and example of Father Avraham.

Mordechai   (12.31.12)
The next Knesset will have about 30 representatives of religious parties and in another 10 years that will double and we won't have to worry about this nonsense of the radical secular left. Its abuse not to circumcise a Jewish child because its much more difficult and traumatic when they have to do it as an adult. Parents who try this nonsense should immediately lose custody of the child.

he is a virtual jew, as your post proves. a non-circumcised male cannot partake of jewish life. most importantly, he cannot marry a jewish woman halakhically. hence, his children will not be considered jews. circumcision is a positive commandment. the fact that jewish males could not be circumcised in spain or the ussr is irrelevant to the argument. we are talking of jews who live in a jewish state and who voluntarily refuse to circumcise their sons.
44.  To #43 Help benefits are nothing to laugh at.
(12.31.12)
I had my tonsils out at age 5. Ive been a lot healthier since, but at the time, as I was recovering, it hurt like hell for at least a week. So, should my parents have opted not to have it done? I dont think so. The health benefits of circumcision are real and serious, so to say its abusive to the child, when it hurts for just a few seconds is absurd. I have an 18 year old son. Once, at dinner, I asked him if he feels traumatized from his brit milah. He just gave me a blank look, he didnt know what I was talking about. He has never expressed any anger or regret at having it done. Nor have I ever met one man, Jewish or not, complain of reduced sexual pleasure. I have been told by medical professionals that Jewish women have a lower incidence of cervical cancer. Ciporah at number at #43, you need to get some Jewish education. If a non-circumcised Jewish man marries a Jewish woman in a civil ceremony, their children are Jews. Even if they were just shacking up, the children are Jews. A religious ceremony is not necessary for the children to be Jews.

and what about if he asks you why you didn't circumsize him even though he is jewish- forget social reasons. If he has more of a soul than you- he will undergo it at an adult age and have to go through pain just because you decided that you are cleverer than almost all Jews are and have been for the past 5000 years or so since the first brit. Many people do foolish things when they are young and think they are cleverer than the older generations and live to regret it later on in life. I assume this will fall under that category.

I happen to agree with you, but you'll recognize that health benefits are seldom the primary reason Jews circumsize their children. It's tradition or religion, take your pick. Healthwise, it's an additional benefit, but that's pretty much it. Furthermore, if I may offer you some well-meant commentary. You might entertain the thought that there's a possibility you have slightly misinterpreted the blank stare you received from your son after you enquired after his circumsized member at a (presumably) packed table with everybody present and eating dinner.
48. I speak from experience....
Koose E Mack ,   NY NY   (12.31.12)
There is nothing as pretty or wholesome as my circumcized schmeckle. Circumcision does definitively have health benefits but that's not why we do it! Valid medical studies prove that uncircumcised males have greater chances for contracting Herpes, HIV, and Warts, as the pathogens get trapped under the foreskin. Also, we don't have nearly as much schmutz or smegma to deal with. So aesthetically, many women prefer a clean cut schlonge to one with a foreskin! So aside from ritual importance...there are advantages to taking 10% off the top!

Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (01.01.13)
I agree that we dont do it for health, we do it because we are commanded by the Creator. Unfortunately, some Jews in Israel dont think they have a Higher Authority to answer to. As for your second comment, I just have one kid living at home. It was just me, him and my husband at the table.

You are lucky that you are in NY, as the minority is in the majority (as it is with most adult males in the US). Were you in most of the rest of the world, you would perhaps not feel so superior.

Why do you assume that these children will want to have it done as adults? Not all people use a 4000 year old "book" as their lifestyle guide.

53. Good For the Goose
Herzlman ,   Tel Aviv   (08.22.13)
This baby was created with a circumsized penis. She could ask her husband, the owner of this particular instrument, if he ever felt "traumatized" by the procedure. Which brings up the question: Why is this idiot woman listening to some fringe group about the significance of circumcision? Also, no Jewish girl is going to want this guy without a "haircut", and it is going to be much harder to do when he is older.
