1. Modesty
Andrew Brehm ,   Zurich   (12.17.12)
I am not from Mea Sharim, which is probably why the term "modesty" to me does not imply pouring bleach over naked women. Modesty to me is looking away when a naked woman walks towards me on the street, not that it happens a lot and that I would necessarily manage to look away. However, pouring bleach over a naked woman to me is a form of perversion rather than a form of modesty. My own view of my religion does allow being immodest but it certainly does not allow for public perversion. I see that Mea Sharim Haredim are not opposed to a public display of perversion when fancy strikes them.
2. the woman should be condemned for provocation
zionist forever   (12.17.12)
Whilst pouring bleach over anybody is unacceptable this woman it seems intentionally went to one of the most religious neighbourhoods of Jerusalem and chose to strip off. Any resident of Jerusalem would have known wandering into Mea Shearim and sitting on the floor naked is sure to result in a violent reaction but she chose to do it anyway. if this was some kind of political stunt then I don't see how even a haredi hater can see her as an innocent victim of radical haredi. Men, women and children all tried to get her to cover up but she refused so if this is some kind of political stunt she must be condemned and not treated as a victim.
3. Mind reader
Carl   (12.17.12)
I'm no fan of the Haredi lifestyle, but it's amazing how the writer displays his mind reading abilities in this article. Is this a news article or anti-haredi propaganda?
4. 'run out of patience'?
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.17.12)
How do you know how it would have ended? Most likely other women would have wrapped a blanket around her and assumed she had mental problems.
5. Why is Moshe Heller not reporting
Yosef ,   Boca Raton   (12.17.12)
This is not news this is was ways to bash the Haredim of Bnei Brak. How do you know and why do you assume this would have ended up differently. You are just passing mis-judgment. That is Lashon Hara
6. One does not....
aline ,   Israel   (12.17.12)
....have to be religious to be shocked! The woman was obviously " mentally challenged" as we say today. Stripping in the street is an offence in MOST countries!
7. THIS LADY'S GOT SOME BALLS
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (12.17.12)
Or not ,as the case may be.( see photo ) Personally ,I enjoy seeing naked ladies . Seriously though, this poor lady deserves sympathy and love ,not derision .
8. #2 zionist ( idiot) forever
Dovid ,   Haifa, Israel   (12.17.12)
Shes quite obviouly mentally ill, would have thought anyone with the brain the size of a pea could work that one out.
9. Does the author know the future?
Andre ,   US   (12.17.12)
I think the author should stick to the facts instead of making assumptions of what would have happened based on his own bias.
10. #1 Huh?
Alex   (12.17.12)
I don't don't get what you're on about, obviously it was a mentally unstable person and moddesty is not to ignore it, it's calling the police. If you want to be nude be it on a nudist beach.
11. Chutzpah!
Yehuda Z ,   Ashdod, Israel   (12.17.12)
If hooligans had attacked the woman, you would have reported on the attack of a deranged woman by the modesty squad. However, since the incident was dealt with calmly and without violence, you write: "Nevertheless, it was pretty clear to everyone that had the immodest woman stayed in the area for more than a few minutes, local residents would have run out of patience and the incident would have ended in a completely different manner." In other words, in your eyes, the Haredim can do no good. And to whom was it pretty clear that local residents would have run out of patience? Anyone other than yourself? I think that this article is clearly racist and that you really need to think before you expose your stupidity and bias to the world.
12. good point #9
ellymay ,   Israel   (12.17.12)
It looks like a passerby gave her a coat, which was nice, and all ended peacefully. So what's with the the extra spin plus bleach story?
13. Fiction vs Facts? Journalism downer
suzie ,   miami   (12.17.12)
Moshe assumes that the woman would have been aroused with bleach. Facts shows that she was not harm, given a blanket. Surely Moshe regrets the Haredim didn't act like Barbarians, it would have given him a more "chocking" story to write, enforcing the anti-religious propaganda. Please, remove him from ynet. Enough of hatred between us. Why cry wolf when nothing happens? Why pointing out what may have happened, instead of what happened.
14. Sounds like a antiharedi paid her...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.17.12)
15. The seculars have gone crazy
Shalom ,   Israel   (12.17.12)
Where is the condemnation of this provocative act from all the bashers of true Torah Jews? The dangers of secularism just never seem to be adressed. Few days ago a secular shoots 20+ children in a school in conneticut, how long are we going to have to wait until the crazy seculars will do this in Israel? Their barbaric lifestyle is a danger to all Jews and the whole world. HaShem and his Holy Torah are the guidance what we need, not secularism!
16. How does anyone know if she was crazy or provocative?
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles   (12.17.12)
17. This woman cried out for help
Tova ,   Canada   (12.17.12)
Pouring bleach over a human body implies cruelty. Had anyone does this - they would be jailed for life.
18. proof not all haredi are radical
zionist forever   (12.17.12)
Whatever this woman's motives for stripping off the fact that both men and women tried to convince her to cover up is proof not all haredi are radical as the haredi haters like to believe. If they were all bad then the men who came over and tried to convince her to cover up would have been beating the hell out of her. For sure we got plenty of radicals but they are not all that way.
19. 15 Not secular,but crazy...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.17.12)
20. Oi vey....wow Oi Vey......wow Oi Vey.....Wow
NATAN ,   ISRAEL   (12.17.12)
21. NO BLEACH WAS POURED ON ANYONE
Babishka ,   USA/Mea Shearim   (12.17.12)
Obviously this was a mentally disturbed individual and no harm was done to her. I hope that she has received the care that she requires.
22. #8 - and those who strip and dance naked...
William ,   Israel   (12.17.12)
in Jerusalem during the Pride parades...not far from Orthodox neighborhoods are considered what in your mind?
23. Likely mentally ill
Dr. Guy ,   Washington, DC, USA   (12.17.12)
She's likely mentally ill, and I am guessing everyone there realized her as being such. I am glad that the locals viewed her with compassion and tried to help her.
24. #9 - not the future but maybe knows precedent?
William ,   Israel   (12.17.12)
25. #15 - relax Shaom. Haradi committed plenty of crimes too
William ,   Israel   (12.17.12)
being religious doesn't make one immune from criminal activity as being Secular doesn't cause them to enter a life of sexual depravity and violence. Only a person with a bias (you guess which direction they lean) can make such a statement.
26. #17 Why do you keep on talking about what "may" have happen?
suzie ,   florida   (12.17.12)
Nobody poured bleach on her. Don t even understand why this "journalist" mentioned it. She was given a coat to cover. No harm done. Haredim are not Barbarians. Always some extremists here and there but as you can read, they didn t hurt her. Surely in a Muslim Country she "may" have been stoned to death and in Europe, she "may" have been mocked and laughed at. Here she was fine, nobody hurt her or by words or by acts.
27. nude woman
Stanley Feist ,   Boynton Bch, Fl.   (12.17.12)
Whatever her motives, it is not within the behaviors approved in any religion to mistreat or cause her any harm or pain. Those who do are seriously in need of understanding compassion.
28. #8 William please present your evidence
Dovid ,   Haifa, Israel   (12.17.12)
Please present your evidence of people dancing naked in the Jerusalem pride parade>. That is a total false lie and you know it, just a desperate attempt to slander others and cover up your own sexual identiy crisis. Lies Lies
29. Micah (Mikah) chapter 1 says that when t he wounds are
Rivkah   (12.18.12)
incurable, a woman laments and howls and strips herself of her clothes and is naked. The police need to take her to a hospital to determine what the incurable wound is to her body and soul and see what can be done to heal what is incurable without a healer.
30. In the summer i could understand it
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.17.12)
on the beach , but in the cold weather in the middle of a street ? Brrrrrr . Maybe that she wanted a "tremp" to the urgency room in a hospital ? She need it probably ...
