31. So humiliating
Get Real ,   UK   (12.10.12)
and will only encourage more rioting. Why so few soldiers in a patrol in 'one of the most violent areas' and no back-up in sight? If after due warning rioters persist in their aggressive actions then rubber bullets and tear gas should be available and used for crowd dispersal. Only in life threatening situations should live ammunition be used and then preferably to disable the assailants. Presence of media is to be expected and indicates a pre-planned riot eager for video distribution of soldiers response. Proper training required.
32. #25 - this is exactly what US soldiers complained of in Iraq
William ,   Israel   (12.10.12)
when US courts, through Leftist NGOs like MoveOn.org, tried to limit soldiers' actions and to try them in courts for any small issue. The Leftist approach was to castrate the army so it was ineffective. It didn't work in the US but it seems to be working in Israel, with European help.
33. Better to run than to kill
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (12.10.12)
What I really loathe here is the arm chair fascists from far away and the chauvinists, screaming for "shoot and kill". Actually Israel could use this footage to its own advantage. The soldiers tried to confront a crowd in riot control gear and lost. So what? Humiliating? It only hurts the pride of the extreme rightwing. But it actually shows that the Israeli army in this instance is at least trying to confront a protesting crowd with riot control methods without killing people outright. Nobody got killed on either side. That's what matters much more than a bit of wounded pride. This and other issues will continue to arise as long as the occupation goes on and the politicians will allow it to go on.
34. PAINTBALL GUNS
Sol Robinson ,   Urbana   (12.11.12)
The ultimate solution, hear me out. 1. They hurt like hell, but no real damage 2. They expose what this whole thing is; a joke. Throwing rocks at soldiers is a joke, it's a fly fighting a bear when the bear is under a moral and legal obligation not to kill the fly. 3. Nobody could ever utter the words "Paintball apartheid" without being laughed into extinction.
35. Occupying forces
Peter Lake ,   Haida Gwaii, Canada   (11.04.13)
I might ask (rhetorically) of that soldier, "What are you doing in Palestine/West Bank (not J-S 'district') anyway?! If you're going to shoot anyone, shoot a settler-terrorist who's destroying olive groves and living on stolen land. Ending the viability of the 2-state solution is going to force a one state.solution. As we all know,. apartheid regimes eventually fail so this will mean the end of the jewish state.
