1. don't like it, but he's right!
tiki ,   belgium   (12.11.12)
2. Israeli democracy is strong enough to have Zoabi
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (12.11.12)
We are not weaklings nor cowards. We are strong enough to handle criticism from within. Those who want to ban Zoabi are the cowards and weaklings. They fear that they we are not strong enough and that the tiny Zoabi will somehow bring us down. I pity the MKs who want her banned, for they show themselves to be weak Jews who fear a small Arab woman. Israel is strong and our democracy is mighty and embraces all of our citizens. Those who want Zoabi banned are pitiful Jewish weaklings who fear the Arab bogeyman. They are a shame and a blot on our viable democracy.
3. She may roam the world...
Jules   (12.11.12)
... but it doesn't matter, because the world has already approved the fictional "Palestinian state". The only thing that matters: a traitor must not be elected to the Knesset.
4. why bother
bill ,   canada   (12.11.12)
israell is not a democracy; israel is a police state
5. Israeli logic.
michael Pielet ,   Israel   (12.11.12)
Israeli logic at its best! Do not fight your enemy, you might beat him, destroy him. then what are you going to do. Better to let him destroy you!
6. So what the author is, in fact, saying,
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Gush Etzion   (12.11.12)
is that we are powerless in the face of Zoabi's traitorous activities. So, then, why don't we elevate every Israeli Arab denigrator of Israel, imam and terrorist alike, to the Knesset with special privileges so that we can be admired by the western world for our openness to be flagellated and our democratic character in the face of repugnant actions which no other nation would permit? After all, as Jews, we have no existential right to protect and defend ourselves. Right, Author?
7. Ongoing double standards under guise of anti-racism
Ilan   (12.11.12)
A person can say the same things about settlers or Hareidim but get arrested for similar language when Arabs are the subject. This law is was used to ban Kahane but the courts will never allow it to be applied to an Arab party as a matter of principle. Probably just junk all of the anti-racist laws since they are never enforced in an equal manner.
8. I disagree
Ishai ,   Jhb, South Africa   (12.11.12)
Firstly, take her salary, however much it may be, and feed a hungry israeli family with that money - money much better spent. Secondly, she has absolutely no business being in the Knesset. Her MO is not to disagree, it is to take part in hurtful and harmful actions against the state purposefully. By being a MK, she lends her actions perceived legitimacy. Thirdly, there has never been a shortage of people trying to destroy Israel's reputation and international standing. The world in any case will have a negative view of israel come what may, and one traitorous israeli arab woman won't make one iota of difference.
9. Not is more irratating that listening
Paul ,   Jerusalem   (12.11.12)
to ridiculous analysis. The error in thinking can be summed up as follows: 1) As aside point; Women are never heroes in Muslim society 2) one must act with what is correct, not how they imagine the enemy will react, because especially Leftists always get it wrong. 3) one who does not act in one's self-interest, but how they believe they will be perceived by those miserable countries that have abandoned Jews time and time again, will only dig a bigger hole for themselves.
10. On who's side are you Yakir Elkariv ?
(12.11.12)
Traying to play psicology with the readers. I am sure the comitee that want's to desqualify this woman has taking into account all this. What happen to Bishara? he did not became a hero even though things were not exactly the same. He ran away before being expelled and tried for high treason. Without immunity Zoabi can be trie for treason
11. Zoa-bama
ASTRONAUT ,   ME, USA   (12.11.12)
An anti-Israeli in Knesset – so nu? We're saddled with an anti-American in the White House. These days, it's "cool" to be "anti-"
12. Well said!
GR ,   London   (12.11.12)
Absolutely right - nothing to fear from this pathetic person. Let her embarras herself. It makes Israel stronger.
13. The same argument was used for Meir Kahana
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (12.11.12)
But he, and his entire party were banned from the Knesset. However tragic Ms. Zoabi's identity crisis may be in the author's opinion, she has crossed the red lines that shouldn't be crossed by an MK too many times to be ignored. No one is trying to deny her party representation, and there is a growing number of people in the Arab sector of Israel signing petitions for her resignation on the grounds that she doesn't represent the people who voted for her. Even some of her family members have signed these petitions. If she is allowed to remain in the Knesset, then Meir Kahana should never have been barred (and I never supported him, either). There are lines that shoulod never be crossed, and crossing them has consequences.
14. agree on one condition
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (12.11.12)
If this article is seriously arguing that it is a good idea to keep Zoabi in the Knesset, then we should legalize Kahane. If anything, Kahane was less extreme than Zoabi. On the other hand, if the purpose is to spin Zoabi, then save the effort. Like you wrote, the High Court that approved disqualifying Kahane will make sure Zoabi is protected.
15. It wouldn't be so bad, if Zoabi from time to time.......
Yael Schlichting ,   currently Munich   (12.11.12)
..... would be held responsible for what she does. First it is not so bad, that she no longer has a diplomatic passport, but there should be lawsuits for her insults which should result in fines. A few hundred thousand NIS here, a few hundred thousand NIS there. Zoabi behaves like a child, that is asking for it's limits.
16. Zoabi was put in her place in a Channel 2 interview
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (12.11.12)
this morning. Yes, her empty rhetoric is negligible.
17. She's already a hero :)
Salma ,   State of Palestine   (12.11.12)
18. Who cares what the world thinks?
Judah ,   Ashdod   (12.11.12)
Earth to Elkariv: they already think she is a hero.
19. Warped logic of warped leftist: when will we be able to be-
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.11.12)
have like "normal" democracies and kick her ass out of Knesset & preferably Israel?!!
20. Zoabi a heroine? You flipped your lid?
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (12.11.12)
She's an out and out traitor to Israel and she'd be the first to admit it. But, yes, the Arabs might say she's a heroine - but they always see things upside down.
21. Don't ban Kahane's party either
Jacob ,   Jerusalem   (12.11.12)
For the exact same reasons.
22. Zoabi is a traitor
Israeli ,   Israel   (12.11.12)
I do not understand the reason, why we should let this traitor appear in on our topmost place called the Israeli Knesset, Do we really care what the world says? It does not really matter if the world will call her a hero or heroine, and blame Israel for all that she says, we have a lot of these people running around Europe we are being betrayed through our Knesset, and it will legitimate all the Israel's enemies to appear in our Knesset. these traitors are not ashamed to lie, and are shitting in the same plate they are eating from.
23. If she has done something illegal-arrest her-if not Shut Up
miki ,   tampa   (12.11.12)
24. Democracy
Bertram ,   London, UK   (12.11.12)
I support democracy - unconditionally - even if that means giving space to those with what I would judge to be despicable views, whether from the right, left or centre. The use of the term 'traitor' whether in relation to Kahanists or to those such as Zoabi is too often used close down debate and to protect insecure positions. As Georege Orwell observed: if liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.
25. You Err and have the thoughts of a Looser !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.11.12)
I Quote - Don't make Zoabi a hero Op-ed: By banning Arab MK from elections, Israel would be turning her into an admired international figure Yakir Elkariv Published: 12.11.12, 10:41 / Israel Opinion Comment - Dont ban this Wolf from influense in Israeli Politic, becausae she could become admired by the Wolfs of the World. Let Her go to the Wolfpack of the World. Why cant Israelis learn to think in a Stright Simple manner ? How many Usefull Idiots is there in Israel ? Arn.Sweden.
26. If Zoabi is smart enough-Quit!!!
Samuel ,   Israel   (12.11.12)
Inspite of her receiving her higher education in Israel & being an MK she should be most grateful to Israel. This woman should be tried for treason. In Hebrew they say "To eat in your plate & sh-t in it too."
27. Following this argument Kahane, Kach should have stayed too
Avi   (12.11.12)
But the fact of the matter is that like that party and that man, this woman can't be either.
28. #2 was our democracy strong enough to have Kach in it too?
Avi   (12.11.12)
Why the double standards? She's not banned just for her words. She denies the existence of the state of Israel and it's character. She said she's not Israeli but Palestinian, and in her actions she also went against the army and the people when she joined the Marmara. If our democracy "wasn't strong enough" to have kach in it, then it shouldn't have her either. Both are venomous extremists and no state on the planet will agree to have terrorists and traitors in the parliament, no matter how strong its democracy is.
29. Don't just ban her....arrest her
Reuven   (12.11.12)
for treason! Many countries allow loyal oppositions to serve in their government. But Israel is the only country in the world to permit DISLOYAL oppositions in its government!
30. No no no no
steve from raleigh   (12.11.12)
"The World" loathes and despises Jews and will make her a hero no matter what you do. Don't give her the present of power and a platform on top of that.
