1. Illusions are dangerous
Bill ,   NY, USA   (12.14.12)
The author totally misses the point of what most people mean when they are talking about "losing" Europe. Naturally, European states are not, and have never been fundamentally boycotting or ignoring Israel in either economic or political terms; they have never been staunch opponents of Israel on the international arena. It is precisely in the context of Israeli-Arab conflict that Europe is gradually being "lost". Implying that the conflict is some sort of minor nuissance in Israel's existence and in its dealing with the world powers is unwise. It is yet another example of what seems to be an illusion among some Israelis, stemming from their presumption that reasonable people from outside Israel share the same worldview and perception of the events on the ground. The danger lies precisely in losing Europe, both the goodwill of the populace and the frienship of the political and economic elites, due to the worsening perception of Israel in the framework of the Israeli-Arab conflict. And if not addressed, it will not take long for this worsening perception to begin affecting politics and economics on a major scale.
2. This is true
Leon ,   Algonquin Land   (12.14.12)
It is true because the elites do not care about human rights or for that matter human beings. They are only interested in making money and Israel represents a growing market for the oppression and control of human beings. Whether they are terrorists, criminals in jail or people boarding an air plane, Israel is a growing market and the elites want to make sure that access (lower tariffs) to these companies is greatly increased. After all when Israel bombs Gaza, they are using newer US bombs and the shareholders await to see how effective the new product performs. Even the Canada Pension Plan is tied to the US/Israeli military complex. When Israel uses US munitions to bomb Gaza, Lebanon or Syria, this is monetarily good for Canada. Israel has always been the favoured child of the Europeans because they represent the edge of the military spear of the Western military/corporate complex.
3. winning Europe
George brown ,   New York   (12.14.12)
whatever Arsen Ostrovski is smoking I want it. Europe will murder another 6 or 10 or 20 million Jews without a second thought. Lieberman is 100% correct. In a few decades Europe will pray to Allah and speak whatever language the conquerors will speak - Turkish, Arabic, whatever. Europe has no spine - they are like the French - cheese eating surrender monkeys.
4. We haven't covered even 1/8 of the road ahead.
Miron ,   USA   (12.14.12)
So, put that cork back where it came from.
5. Good piece, Israel winning Europe/ yes and no
bob k ,   orlando usa   (12.14.12)
Israel's dealings with Europe will always face difficulties. The culture and history of Europe guarantees this But Israel has to survive and thrive as Jews have throughout history especially in Europe. Europe needs Israel's skills and knowledge and brilliant research capabilities. Israel needs European trade, European scale of research and personal connections in all fileds at all levels in all relevant countries..
6. Very good analysis!

7. Careful with Greece and Cyprus
Mark ,   London, UK   (12.14.12)

8. water desalination, where Israel is a world leader

This 'world leader' is stealing water from Palestinian sheep herders ,...
9. Bill, your perception of the geopolitical
Israeli   (12.14.12)
Middle Eastern and European climate is very hygienic if not artificial altogether. As a long time European and present time Israeli (quite a few decades), I can assure you that the European mindset is completely different from what you picture them to be. Let's suppose for a moment that they are all in favour of the ersatz Palestinians and all the other Arabs. Then, tell me, why don't they give a farthing for what's going on in Syria, namely do something about it, i.e. intervene, etc.? Europe will always think eleven thousand times before they reject or "excommunicate" Israel. This, my friend, is real European politics - Realpolitik. And, on top of everything, come here to see how much Israel has advanced on all fields during the last decade: economically, industrially, militarily, scientifically, health, education, etc.
10. To No. 3
Bertram ,   London, UK   (12.14.12)
I think you had better pass on to Arsen Ostrovski what you are taking. Maybe you are inhaling laughing gas since it is beyond credibility that anyone - even you - could believe the comic nonsense you have written. I invite to come to the UK - without the laughing gas - and get a reality check. It will be an educational experience for you.
11. Leaders in STEALING
Anton ,   Middle East   (12.14.12)
Leaders in stealing land from palestinians, were 4 milion palestinians sitting on only 17% of the west bank while the United Nations gave majority of Palestinians 43% of the land. Ask yourselves why Israel is the only country in the world without official borders????!!!! ahhhh
12. to #8 Split
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (12.14.12)
quite true, and we're using your tax money to do it, AND your great-great-grandchildren will not live to see that change. We are liberating the entirety of the Hebrew indigenous territory from the colonialists. Arabic speakers can go back to Arabia.
13. to #1 Bill
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (12.14.12)
I was going to say the exact same thing about the Union's invasion and colonization of the Confederated States of America. The Euro's were aghast at that, also. Bill, what is your plan to turn-around the Euro's hurt feelings?!?
14. Nothing artificial (to the Israeli)
Bill ,   NY, USA   (12.14.12)
Israeli, 1) As a European myself, I am quite well aware of the various archtypes of mindset among both, general European population, and their governing elites. 2) I'm a big fan of realpolitik and at no point in my comment did I deny or divert from it ;-) 3) Even the staunchest realists should not by-pass the fact that in many countries, including Eurean ones, (a) a proportion of the elites comes out of the general populace, and is therefore influenced by the prevalent mood and ideas; (b) the democratic process does, in fact, exist with the voters being able to impact, in medium-long term, some trends in their governments' policies. My biggest concern with this, and many similar articles, is that they are somewhat self-reassuring and self-congratulatory (similar to how the Soviet news and commentaries were put forth for domestic consumption - no news is bad news for the USSR and its progress towards the bright future; no matter what happens, we, the Soviets are still victorious and self-righteous on our path). Israelis should pay more attention to the multiplying negative factors that can impact Israel in adverse way, rather than calming themselves down "we are right, everything is ok".
15. Leaders in Stealing - questions to Anton
Bill ,   NY, USA   (12.14.12)
Anton, I presume your comment is closely tied with the question of when the Palestinians as a whole are going to recognise Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people and commit to forever peacefully coexist side by side. I believe the fact that the proportions of land ownership between Israel and the Arabs are a result of a series of certain fundamental disagreements that the Palestinians/Arabs THEMSELVES had with the UN resolutions.
16. Israel winning in Europe
jon ,   uk   (12.14.12)
Europe and the rest of the world should ask themselves what does israel contribute to the world in medicine hitech etc. and what do the Palestinians contribute many complains and charity takes alot of time to deal with and this time can be used by europe or UN to deal with many other matters its a wonder why they doing it is it for the love of Palestinians or they are using the Palestinians to be against israel
17. But one thing for sure.Czech Rep is only EU with guts+sincer

Alan ,   SA   (12.14.12)
19. I you think that Europe is hostile today
Abu Zib ,   Haifa, IL   (12.14.12)
I you think that Europe is hostile today, wait another 20 years after the complete demographic meltdown. With declining populace and the merge of aggressive Euro-Islam with mainstream politics, we'll have quite a crisis with Europe.
20. Stop trying to "win" Europe
Eric R. ,   USA   (12.14.12)
They have shown for 2000 years that they are incapable of overcoming their hatred of Jews. Add to that the coming Islamization of the continent, and Israel should focus on "winning" China, India, Japan and South Korea instead.
21. Islamic soul
Zechariah   (12.14.12)
Islam lost its soul prior to WW2 in not offering mass refuge to the People of The Book in all Lands as a Humanitarian Obligation .
22. Israel Won the EU
(12.15.12)
It stands to reason that Israel won the EU. If you want and need bomb-belts, the so-called palestinians have them for you. But if you need high-quality medicine, technology, agricutlure development, and teachers with vast depth, only the State of Israel will be able to fulfill your needs.
23. Heheh ;) ,...
split ,   US   (12.15.12)
You don't need much these days to make you feel like a winner do you ? A little scrap or bone under the table will do the trick ,...
24. No wonder israel has won over Europe.
big bad Jew ,   United States   (12.15.12)
They offer such successful cures in medicine, agriculture, science, technology etc. And, what do the pals offer? Terror, lies, violence and hopelessness. Only the 'religiously insane' hold murder as their triumphant call and only the vicious anti semites as their 'followers'.
25. to # 10 and like-minded pinheads

26. To: No. 8
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.15.12)
Yeah, well, those are Israeli sheep they stole. Now the shoe is on the other foot. What a shame. Perhaps Poland will freeze up some of the Vistula and ship a giant ice cube to the ersatz "Palestinians!"
27. To: No. 25
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.15.12)
What on earth would make you think that Israel is dependent upon the memory of the world? The world has long forgotten the Holocaust. Needless to say, however, the Jewish people have not forgotten. The State of Israel is a major force to contend with. Hey, Georgie boy, have you thrown away you mobile telephone yet? You should. It's Jewish technology. Surely you have no wish to be a hypocrite. Toss your cell phone away, and wait for the ersatz "Palestinians" to invent one! (Needless to say, one which does not utilize Jewish owned patents and Jewish owned licenses.) You'll have a long wait, but -- what the hell. You'll be adhering to your (questionable) principles. Isn't that important to you? Being principled, I mean? Surely you refused to allow your children to be innoculated against polio, right? I mean -- the Sabin vaccine; the Salk vaccine -- that's Jewish science. You wouldn't want to be considered a hypocrite, now, Georgie, would you? P.S. Throw out your blue jeans, too, sweetie. Levi Strauss, after all, was a Jew.
28. #11 Ask your folks
Raphael ,   Netanya   (12.15.12)
Why the arab negotiators in Rhodes, 1949, expressly refused to acknowledge the Green Line of ceasefire as an internationally recognized border. Now, there is no legal argument to be opposed to settlements. They shot their own foot.
29. To No. 27
Bertram ,   London, UK   (12.15.12)
Oh dear,, Sarah, you do seem to be losing it. George at 25 cited Dugulin who said: "The combination of anti-Israeli governmental policies and a growing indifference toward anti-Semitic incidents in European societies should be a cause of great concern to all good willed citizens". How does your response square with that? You also say the world has forgotten the Holocaust. Quite the opposite. For example, the study of the Holocaust is mandatory in English schools. There are more museums focused on the Holocaust around the world than there have ever been. Consider the content of the Jewish Museum in Berlin as well as the prominence of the Holocaust Memorial in that city.
30. Charlie Sheen 'Winning' Maybe
Golden Dome ,   Washington, USA   (12.15.12)
Israel can't spin colonization of Palestianian land and apartheid any longer. The world is getting tired of supporting racists.
