Rudolf Gorgulla ,   Berlin Germany   (12.25.12)
It must be clear for everybody that progres in the Middle East is resulting by Israel only. Al other parties are only destructive as well to the population as to the development of prosperity
33. #19: How much more nonviolent can building be?
Steve   (12.25.12)
You say, the state of Israel must abide by "international law." According to scholars, international law going back to the League of Nations Mandate declares the Jews' unalienable right to live and build in all of Israel. As to the Irgun and other groups fighting the British, that was a very different time. Keep in mind, the British violated their obligations under the terms of the Mandate. British strangled (virtually cut off) Jewish immigration to "Palestine" during the war when desperate Jews were trying to flee Nazi genocide in the countries they occupied. England essentially conspired with Germany in the Final Solution because the Jews had no where to go.
34. to 30 : You want to talk logic ?
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (12.25.12)
Hope, you didn't appoint yourself the spokes person for the countries of the world...And if I contradict logic in your "eyes", I accept it as a compliment... Our setllements are not less legal, then other country's liberated land in the process of defensive wars, to say the least..Judea and Samaria belongs to Israel, just like the Pizza Tower to Italy, the Bing Bang to England and the Capitol to US...Your reference to European countries is another pathetic attempt to shade the truth where those countries are really headed...Before you and your likes judge Israel, you should take a good look at the state of affairs of EU countries and the history of their colonizations, slavery and exploitations of hundreds of millions of people in the past and current...

You're missing the point. The "influential, pro-Israeli voices in Western societies" are the ones being undermined by this action. Settlement-building and the rampantly nationalist rhetoric that accompanies it in the media, just put off otherwise well-desposed/neutral people. It plays into constant assertions by the Palestinians that Israel is the "bad guy". In terms of the point that Israel is too large to be cold-shouldered bt the Intl'l community I ran has a considerably larger economy, and is a major source of oil but it is now currently being subjected to the international "isolation treatment" and economic squeeze. Obviously countries are reluctant to engage in sanctions (etc.) but there is usally a tipping point when they finally do. Its a process we've seen happen time and again, and I don't want Israel to fall into that trap. Its not worth it for settlements that may eventually be pulled down anyway in a Gaza-style disengagement.

#5- The “palestinians” were angry even before Israel existed, when they had control of everything. The only time Israel was mentioned as an international city was only after the Jews controlled it, which is the only time when there is true freedom of religion in Jerusalem. And which international city can you point to as a good example? Danzig (Gdansk) didn’t work out too well, did it? #16- And apartheid?! Israeli-arabs vote, are represented in government, attend university, and go to the same hospitals as Jews and are treated by the same Jewish and arab doctors and nurses. Meanwhile, the “pals” say that any state they have will be judenrein; selling to Jews is punishable by death. Who is apartheid? (Hint: it ain’t the Jews.)

#19- No mention of terrorism, bus bombings, indiscriminate rocket fire, swearing to wipe out Israel, teaching children it’s ok to kill Jews especially if you are “martyred”? No, I didn’t think so. #30- Ever hear of the word “treason”? Are you saying that Joseph McCarthy should have been permitted to stay in the US Senate? Careful; your self-blindness is all too obvious.

solomon ,   bklyn   (12.25.12)
Everything is a “red line” for the “palestinians”. The true red line is that they get everything they want, no compromise, without any peace, so they can continue their onslaught to kill Jews and occupy a land to which they are late comers. Speak to your own if you want to speak about “share”. The “pals” have shown absolutely no inclination in that direction. In fact, they go so far as to try and commandeer places that are Jewish (no Temple was ever there? Ruth’s tomb is a mosque? Pul-eeze, how ridiculous can you get?!). No, we don’t expect you to admit the truth.
39. To: No. 22
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.25.12)
Where in your Arab and Moslem texts does Jerusalem even hold a place? Jerusalem meant nothing to you until Israel made it blossom and grow. Do you REALLY think we'll just hand over our hard work to you? And yes, the Jews are the only people who matter on this land. Everyone else is an outsider. Only the Jews are indigenous to Israel. You, on the other hand, are indigenous to Arabia -- more specifically, to the Hejaz in the Western Arabian desert. Look at the truth, instead of falling victim to your own fictional "histories." Try truth. It will liberate you.

We can all see how well Arabs share. Mecca is a fine example. Share Mecca and perhaps Jews will consider sharing also. Until then, please don't try to lecture us on sharing as you don't seem to be familiar with it yourself.
41. #35 Lord: Our different mindset
Tom W ,   USA   (12.26.12)
1.I don't believe that Israel - or the Jews by extension - can placate the antisemitic EU or others by any means: no amount of self flagellation, self-loathing, self-mutilation will suffice. After they killed us in Europe, now they come after us in Asia relentlessly. 2. You prefer to ignore the past, and you think the opposite: namely that a "nice", obedient, meek "Jewboy" will gain the good graces of Mrs. Ashton and her coterie. Both frame of mind has inveterate followers and because nothing happen in vacuum the future is unknowable.
