31. History and Myths
Mikhael Izsak-Dicker ,   Israel   (12.26.12)
I bet most of my Jewish brethren with European roots have a an ethnic genealogy that leads back rather to the people of the Khazar Kaganat, not to those of Judea :-) As historian know, around 0 - 300 AD the Jewish population of the Roman Empire counted up to 8 millions (!), or 10 - 13% of the whole population of the empire. No serious and sane scientist would say that they were Judean Jews. No, up to 80% of them were proselytes and descendants of proselytes from all over the then known world ...
32. No Two States Solution
Keren IL-BR ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (12.26.12)
One State Now! Let's embrace our Arabs brethren and absorb them in our midst with love and care. Let's give them political rights and full democracy. Let's see them in the Knesset building up a multinational country where everybody is welcomed. No more Two-States-Solution. The settlements are good for Israel and is helping to mix Jews and Arabs together.
33. Biblical claim?
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (12.26.12)
The Arabs started several wars and lost each of them. As a consequence, they lost part of their land. End of story.
34. TO MR. HA'IVRI.
FO ,   Belgium   (12.26.12)
I'm afraid Mr. Ha'ivri that the Bible isn't considered today as an applied guide for politics. But I suppose that decisions made by international forums are. And I suppose that if the League of Nations wrote in its Preamble to the "Mandate for Palestine" in 1922, that "... Whereas recognition has thereby been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country..." the League based that declaration on behalf of historical facts as well as the Bible. And as you know, or you should know Mr. Ha'ivri, the League's mandate gave the Jews, and in extension the State of Israel, the Irrevocable right to settle between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, including the Golan Heights, a right unaltered in International Law, valid to this day as reaffirmed by Article 80 of the UN Charter. Even UNSC Resolution 242 is based on the League's unanimous vote in 1922 by all its 51 members. But you Mr. Ha'ivri, you do not utter a word about it ! And you are not alone. Israel is constantly attacked in the name of International Law, but nobody was ever able to produce, let it be, just one article to prove it ! And no Israeli government till today has ever claimed its rights confirm to International Law to defeat world accusations !
35. There is no right
Itamar ,   Ramat Gan   (12.26.12)
Right to the land is childish, and does'nt make sense and is not realistic, the only thing which matters is strength to resist to anyone who want to chase you out, Serbia had 100% right on Kosovo, but lost it, tjhe Indians of the Usa had also the right to their land but no strength and so on and on, if Israel keeps strong, it will keep the country, if not...... no body will give you a country because it is your right, and strength is not only on the battlefield, PR is also strength
36. Biblical claims to the Westbank
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (12.26.12)
Under interntational law claims to the Westbank based on the Bible have no legal validity whatsoever. The Palestinians of the occupied Westbank are protected persons under international law, a vital distinction with the position of Israeli colonists. By transferring its civilian populations to the occupied territories since 1967 Israel acted in violation of international law. Theodore Meron, legal counsel to Israel;s Foreign Ministry in 1967, told the government of Levi Eshkol exactly this. But Eshkol and every Israeli government since has blatantly ignored international law. I posted this before. Is there any particular reason for the moderator not to publish my argument other than the fact that it is not nice to be confronted with an unpalatable truth?
37. The Jews connection to Israel spans 3,500 years
Paul ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.26.12)
The world has no legitimate reason to question the most documented Historical facts in Human history. Yet, the world does, which says very little about the world, and even less about Jews who doubt their own history. The only reason why it is questioned, doubted and scorned, is because of inherited religious and racial hatred, and the reality that non-Muslim nations are scared to death of the cruelty of Arab violence and culture.
38. (14) millions....................
tiki ,   belgium   (12.26.12)
of Abdallah's believe they have to pray 5 times a day, keep a month of Ramadan, become martyrer's, kill people with a different opinion/religion, lie to non-muslims, sharia law, set ablaze western cities, veil & stone women, cut of hands, hang gays, etc., etc., only because a book, written by a man/prophet 1500 years ago, told you so!
39. #13, You are correct.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.26.12)
Blind believing fools need to wakeup. According to the facts, for anyone smart enough to research them, there was no Moses, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, David or Solomon who ever existed. These people were all made up characters in a story which was put together in Babylon 6th century BCE. Check out ' The Mythic Past: Biblical Archaeology and the Myth of Israel ' by Prof. Thomas L. Thompson.
40. The Bible, among other things, is a history book. But ...
Jake ,   USA   (12.26.12)
.. It is documented in non-Biblical history as well, that the Israelites had reigned over this land, and archaeology further proves the historical connection of the Jewish people (descendants of ancient Israelites) to this land. The argument can be simplified: If my house is stolen by a thief who passes the property down 10 generations, it is still my house, and my descendants have every right to reclaim it. The current residents of the property could be good innocent people, but they are not the owners of the property, and they must accept that. Likewise the Arab residents of Israel deserve full civil rights and to be treated with dignity, but they do not deserve a state, because this land does not belong to them. Palestinian Autonomy should be the final status arrangement.
41. Let them live in peace
Thartea ,   Aizawl   (12.26.12)
I hate when Israelites living in the East of Pre-1967 Green line are called, 'Settlers.' Do they not have rights to live as normal citizen of Israel under its boundary?
42. Sad to say...
Jimbo Salsa ,   Mexico   (12.26.12)
No, Max, we Jews do descend from the ancient Hebrews of the Prophetic Era as you call it. We're alive and well, thanks. And no, we're not converts or descend from converts to Judaism. You see, it makes no sense to convert to a religion that has been repressed and persecuted for centuries.
43. Biblical Claims the the West Bank.
Jimbo Salsa ,   Mexico   (12.26.12)
Mr. Alofs, excuse me but as a Britton, you don't have any moral authority to discuss what Israeli colonists are doing in their land. It may be useful to remind you that your own countrymen and even your own ancestors don't have a clean slate concerning Great Britain's conquests of other countries. Perhaps Great Britain should consider giving the Falklands to Argentina. The Argentine claim to those islands is dubious at best, but they're closer to Buenos Aires than they are to London so that may be as good a reason as any to have the Argentine flag raised over Port Stanley instead of the Union Jack. The best thing that could happen to Arab residents in the former Protectorate is the State of Israel. They are a minority but they have full rights to do whatever they want. Their brethren in Arab countries don't fare that well, like in Syria these days. Israel has done them an enormous favour by keeping them in the country and not treating them like the settlers they are themselves, in a country that their ancestors conquered using little force as it had no army, and that until the late 19th century wasn't even worth the effort of visiting.

45. Bible is not log book recording real estate property
observer ,   Egypt   (12.26.12)
when God chose the city of Jerusalem he added very clearly in the writings of all the prophets that he would utterly destroy this city of Jerusalem, his seat and throne, if they would not keep his commandments. Furthermore, when Solomon had built the temple, had sacrificed and prayed to God, God said to him (I Kings 9:3), "I have heard your prayer and your supplications ... I have consecrated this house," etc.; but then he added shortly thereafter: "But if you turn aside from following me ... and do not keep my commandments ... then I will cut off children of Israel from the land which I have given them; and the house which I have consecrated for my name I will cast out of my sight; and Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all peoples." The10 commandments were for keeping, not for reclaiming land.
46. Recent insanity
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.26.12)
With PA and Muslim leaders stating that Jews never lived in Israel and Solomon never built a Temple on the Temple Mount, it is all the more important to remind people that Hebron, on the West Bank, is the burial place of Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekka, Jacob and Leah; that Bethlehem -- royal David's city -- is the burial place of Rachel; that Jerualem has been the focal point of Jewish prayer and tradition for more than 3,000 years. The Muslims have raised the issue of Jewish presence and we must be accurate and clear in our reply.
47. Reply to number 10 British Mandate
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.26.12)
The reason Britain kept changing the boundaries of the proposed state, and the reason Churchill gave 77% of the Mandate to create the Kingdom of Jordan, was simply the lack of Jews willing to live in Palestine. Britain could not create a Jewish state without a Jewish majority population. Most post WW One Jewish refugees preferred to go to America and rejected the Zionist option. Until the mid-1930's Britain left the gates of Palestine wide open, but not enough Jews chose that option. In the later 1930's Britain gave in to Arab pressure and anti-Semitism and closed the gates -- while keeping open the gates to Britain itself.
48. Reply to number 23 DNA
Joseph ,   London UK   (12.26.12)
The answer to your argument is that DNA tests show that Jews around the world share a common ancestry. Even Cohanim share a common Cohane gene. Even more amazing is that a tribe in Africa who insist on their Jewish ancestry were tested and they also had Jewish DNA -- including the Cohane gene among what they call their 'priests'. THe Berber and Khazar theories have been disproven.
49. Reply to 36 Occupied territory
Joseph ,   London UK   (12.26.12)
Some lawyers disagree with this. The West Bank was occupied by Jordan in 1948 and Jews were driven out. Only two countries recognised Jordan's claim. In 1967 Israel reunited Jerusalem and took back the West Bank. The previous owners had been Mandatory Britain and Ottoman Turkey, neither of which claimed it in 1967. This was part of the land that had been set aside as the area of a Jewish homeland.
50. Reply to 13 Origins of West Bank Pals
Danny ,   London England   (12.26.12)
You only hint at it, so I'll say it. Some Palestinian clans admit they descend from mediaeval Jewish groups who converted -- focibly or otherwise -- to Islam. DNA tests could probably confirm this.
51. Number 16. Limits of Bible
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.26.12)
Some parts of the Bible are poetry, some are allegorical, others are prophetic, still others legalistic and historical. None of that changes Biblical geography. Jerusalem, Hebron, Bethlehem, Shechem, the Med, the River Jordan, Lake Kinneret [Sea of Galilee] etc are real places, not fantasies, and no one disputes the ancient sites such as the Temple Mount, Cave of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs, Rachels' Tomb, Joseph's tomb etc.
52. TO BEN ALOFS UK # 36
FO ,   Belgium   (12.26.12)
I suppose you refer to Article 49 of the 4th Geneva Convention of 1949. Well, the Convention applies ONLY to acts by one signatory "carried out on the territory of another". "The West Bank is not the territory of a signatory power, but an unallocated part of the Palestine Mandate. It is hard, therefore, to see how even the most literal-minded reading of the Convention could make it apply to Jewish settlement in territories of the Mandate west of the Jordan River". The Jewish right of settlement in Palestine west of the Jordan River was made unassailable by the League of Nations in 1922. This right has never been terminated and cannot been terminated in view of Article 80 of the UN Charter". A few lines written by Prof. Eugene Rostow author, together with Lord Caradon, of UNSC Resolution 242, the cornerstone for diplomacy in the Middle-East.
53. #39, are you saying that the ancient Israelites didnt exist?
Jake ,   USA   (12.26.12)
54. #27, It is Israelis right to die for their country,
Michael ,   California, USA   (12.26.12)
but not for a piece of a disputed land. Believe as much as you want that the occupied land is yours, base it on any speculative claim you want, but it doesn't give you the right to tell an Israeli soldier to die defending it. When this soldier defends the West Bank, he is defending a doubtful claim only.

G-d bless America as long as she blesses Israel.
57. TO 33
Jeff Mundanar ,   Springfield   (12.26.12)
You are 100 per cent correct. I have always said the same thing . Why does everyone keep talking about this ? . You can dispute the origins and borders of most Nations if you look back to the beginning of civilization and try to negate and discredit everything . The problem is that with entry of computers on to the scene , people who have the intelligence of a centipede have a place to voice their idiot opinions.. Those who attacked Israel constantly since 1948 should have considered what they would lose.. But they didn't.

60. To # 52
ltrail ,   United States   (12.27.12)
Your meandering comment is meaningless in the sight of G-d. Just as he preserved a remnant of Jews through the Holocaust, and just as he preserved the Jews of Israel through six major wars, He will keep his Word: that the land now called the State of Israel shall remain in Jewish hands forever. Go ahead. Proceed through life in disbelief that the G-d, doesn't exist and that He is not the protector of the Jewish people.
