What happen to the plan for Containers Rail Link Eilat - Ashdod to bypass the Suez Canal which will probably be cheaper using feeders located both at Eilat and Ashdod to serve Europe

Sam asks about the Eilat-to-Ashdod cargo rail link. I haven't heard much about it, but earlier this year Israel's Globes (business web site) indicated that Israel and China were working out the details of that rail link. It seemed like a lot of work to unload, ship and reload. But folks who know more than I do about transportation think there's merit in it. Such a trade route certainly cuts down on exposure to pirates prowling the Horn of Africa.
