A constitution approved in a referendum by only 32% of eligible voters is not worth the paper is written on. Only 20.5% of voters said Yes and 12% said No. It seems that 2/3 of Egyptian voters do not care about the new constitution, or could not make up their mind one way or other. Any referendum where the participation falls bellow 50% plus 1, should not have been signed into law. The approval fuels the deep division within the Egyptian society.

as an iranian born muslim who lives in the usa, i have experienced what it is like to live in an islamic dictatorship in iran. egypt is heading this way for sure. you are just too ignorant and idiotic to realize this living in the democratic usa. show me one country in the arab and islamic world that you can call a democracy which is only ruled by decree, by fear, by oppression and by one man one vote mentality. do you think egypt is different under morsi than it was under moubarak? you are such an abysmal illiterate in the history of the muslim and arab world. as to israel, it is a full democracy, a non-colonial country which fully respects democratic law, democratic votes, democratic institutions and is not colonizing anything but its true homeland and only its homeland. israel should adopt a similar constitution as egypt's?????? you make me laugh as to your idiocy and imbecilic attitudes. i can guarantee you that should you ask any palestinians and arabs living in israel if they want to live in egypt under islamic rule or any other islamic country, they will be the first ones to cry NO! just look what happened when abbas planned the new palestinian state. 9,000 arabs that live in the west bank ran to the israeli embassy to apply for israeli id cards. what does that tell you about the life arabs enjoy under israeli democracy and the ones they fear under islamic rule in gaza and west bank? your ignorance hurts. hameed aboughaze, iranian

9. 'New Dawn'
john   (12.27.12)
"New Dawn" has two meanings 1. Title for a new 'Twilight' movie ;-) More realistically.... 2. New Dawn = Egypt is screwed
10. Morsi's new dawn
Toledano Jean-Pierre ,   Israel   (12.27.12)
Morsi said that Egypt is now a democratic and independent state and that it has to be seen as the birth of a new dawn. What sort of democracy or dawn? Morsi, backed by the Muslim brotherhood and the salafists in the parliament, is also himself a Muslim brother. About that kind of democracy and dawn I know two proverbs: -first see, said the blind man. -first see, then believe.
11. Egypt's prosecutor general can now probe the opposition

12. New Dawn--Arab Spring
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (12.27.12)
I suppose that if an Arab Autumn can be trumpeted as an Arab Spring, the same people can call a New Dusk a New Dawn. You simply have to know the linguistic rules to get the real meaning. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!

This is the problem when constitutions are made by politicians in modern day. Canada has a very old constitution free from modern day party politics same with the US which I think is a really good one and revolutionary for its time. Modern day ones are politics and based on personal interests on todays politicians. I would love it if Israel had a constitution to keep the politicians in check but who is going to decide what goes into it? Retired generals, retired and serving politicians, academics, rabbis, the US wanting to protect their interest in Israel and who will have final say on what proposals go in and what don't before its presented to the public? Israeli politicians are already good at deception and tricking the public so they will probably try make a constitution thats a political tool rther than something to keep them in check. You don't know how lucky you are coming from a country with an old and clear constitution that guides modern day politics rather than acting as a political tool which is what Egypt has and what Israel would get if we tried to make one now.
