MJ   (12.27.12)
You had my vote when you said you won't let again jewish people leave their homes anymore; NOW you've lost my vote asking to cut defense budget for Tzahal, that's wrong move!!! Our soldiers deserve evrything and the best!!!
2. Bennet strikes me as an economic pragmatist
hippocrates ,   world   (12.27.12)
3. Cut Taxes. Cut Taxes. Cut Taxes.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (12.27.12)
All else is commentary.
4. Wonder if he's adopting the Feiglin plan
Vlad   (12.27.12)
Moshe Feiglin proposed cutting the defense budget and then offering to pay Palestinians to emigrate. Bennett has already come out against a Palestinian state, so I wonder if this is what he has in mind.
5. #1
Dan ,   Jerusalem   (12.27.12)
MJ - he is talking about cutting out wasteage in the IDF - as a commander in Sayeret Matkal Bennett knows what his soldiers need.
6. The man is on white substances
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (12.27.12)
How can any sane person cut military budgets in the most turbulent turmoil in the region since the State was founded with a concerted attempt to destroy the Jewish State Guy must be dancing with angels
7. Cut defense, raise taxes?
Steve Klein   (12.27.12)
That's not conservative.
8. only 3 billion?
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (12.27.12)
There is soooooo much waste in the army, 3 billion ain't that much. But can the army be cost efficient? I doubt it.
9. Bennet
Charles ,   toronto   (12.27.12)
Anybody who has served in the army knows that they waste tons of money. This is based on Jobnikim who come to base, hang out and still get a paycheque. I do not understand why people love to edit what he says. Bennet clearly stated that he would not cut money for combat units.
10. Bennet is aware, unlike most Israeli
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Gush Etzion   (12.27.12)
non-military, of the huge wastage in the IDF, the food thrown out, the automobile allowances permitted to each and every officer no matter how low ranking, the unnecessary luxuries and numerous attendants allowed to high-ranking officers. It's a far cry from the citizens' army it once was. Bennet's a businessman, a successful one, as well as a longtime military veteran, and knows what he's talking about. All active reservists constantly witness and are aware of this wastage. Trust Bennet on this one.
11. I second Robert Haymond [#10]
Mitchell Cohen ,   Gush Etzion, Israel   (12.27.12)
12. Charles#9: You make a good point about waste.
Steve   (12.27.12)
Still, I do not favor raising taxes. Cut spending first. There is plenty to cut both in the United States and I am sure in Israel.
13. Those complaining
Adam ,   Israel   (12.27.12)
Should read the article as the headline is misleading. He plans to reduce IDF overhead which goes into wasteful and unnecessary things. Not once did he say to take money from the combat units or soldiers in the field
14. cut
john ,   toronto   (12.27.12)
More needs to be cut.Real restructuring.Put the money in the economy.
15. cut

even aftera cut in the army ducget they are overpaid bouble
16. Cut welfare from yeshivot and Haredim.
Michael ,   California, USA   (12.27.12)
That's the first step. Second, cut money from the rabbinical legal system. Third, cut the large families subsidies. And so on, ahead of cutting from the IDF budget. But IDF waste needs to be reduced also.
17. Israel can't afford (security) to cut defense budget.
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (12.27.12)
18. Before asking working Israelis to pay more taxes
Rachel ,   US   (12.27.12)
Cut the welfare to the Haredim.
