1. Netanyahu and Steinitz
Michael ,   Haifa   (01.01.13)
I wonder if Netanyahu and Steinitz can come up with a "spin" response to this piece...they probably can.
2. Many of us suffwe while we pay huge
jason white ,   afula,israel   (01.01.13)
salaries to the workers of the Israel Electric Co., Merkorot and civil servants. City and town halls are filled with these "workers" and they have benefits that most of us could not imagine. Let all local authorities publish tenders and hire the cheapest contractors to replace city "workers". Let the contractors worry about paying the correct salaries and pension plans for their workers. Let us stop subsidizing the lifestyles of civil servants. If the I.E.C. is in debt, let them absorb it. Too many monopolies drain our salaries and pensions. Finally stop giving pensions to those that never worked in Israel.
3. seniors
john ,   toronto   (01.01.13)
Typical of most leaders they can be trusted to take care of themselves . Seniors should be taken care of properly, this will not work. The needs of seniors , physically or mentally handicapped, single mothers should not suffer in the name of balancing the books.A place which has been blessed must take care of the weak in the community.
4. Remember this on election day!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.01.13)
5. And Netanyahu might be reelected?

7. Well said wvweyone
R ,   Israel   (01.01.13)
I think all the comments made voice genuine concern and grievance. Seeing as though major change will take some time, I thought of making a short term practical suggestion of providing fleeze gowns whic can be worn around the home as part of the IECJ package. We have them and they are very warm.
8. Social Darwanism
Zecharia   (01.01.13)
Netanya has a few traits some cunning and pragmatic some a noxious. He leans in an ugly way to Social Darwanism. To fill the Gap the Israeli Wealthy and the Wealthy in the Gallus and Well off ought lift their contribution ethos to stringently audited organisations .
9. YOU FORGOT SOMETHING!
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (01.01.13)
In Israel, you can return empty cans and bottles to get a cash back(35 agorot) This article doesn't list, how some of the elderly have to demean themselves by collecting cans and glass bottles by poking through people's garbage for 7/20th of a shekel! Only the Mafia already has a monopoly on it! The Elderly:Dumpster Diving just to survive! WTF?
10. I'm always asked ...why do you still work?
Al   (01.02.13)
My answer is always the same..I work inorder to be busy and to be active. I also work to entertain myself doing nothing, which I am told, I am very good at. The point being that retiring is not a good thing for anyone. My urologist is 75, My ENT Dr is way past 85.My general surgeon is close to 75. I suggest that people especially men work till they are taken out by an ambulance. Retiring and waiting for a handout is not for anyone. Another point...save save save and save some more. Tomorrow is another day..Stop living with the idea that you will always be making money. You wont.
11. Use your voting possibilities
Beary White ,   Norway   (01.02.13)
The pension from the state should cover the basic needs. Everyone has the possibility to use their vote to change/remove false politicians who acts as obsessive liars.
12. Shameful
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.02.13)
The elderly need help NOW & not after the installment of the next government.
13. No 10
A Shvitzer ,   Israel   (01.02.13)
All very well you saying people should work until they drop but alot of elderly do not have the health to work you mainly mention non physical jobs not everyone can continue to work all their lives.Around the western world the elderly are treated badly and not seen as a priority despite having contributed to the economy throughout their working lives.
14. Prices go up, seniors go under
Rina ,   Haifa, Israel   (01.02.13)
This guy, who worked decades in port (government job), probably should have second pension from the port, he live in his own apartment, have 50% cut on electricity bills, transport, 100% free arnona and TV taxes and he can't to warm himself. What bunch of BS this guy fed us. He was a government worker with huge benefits. he worked decades in port and probably have very good salary. Where is his money now? What he did with them? This guy is 80, cheap and sick and lonely. He is angry on all this world, and I hardly doubt, if he would have more money, he would spend more on himself. The old habits die hard.
15. Elderly are responsibility of children !
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.02.13)
16. 10 Al,save is not the only answer.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.02.13)
