31. Assad will blame Israel
Bob ,   Canada   (01.05.13)
Now the Syrians will scream and yell that Israeli missionaries are involved with the rebels. We dont want another Gilad Shalit episode.

They are at 'home', you don't need a passport to be and stay at home.
33. Ellen @18, I am no expert on Israeli customs, but in US
leo ,   usa   (01.05.13)
State Department maintains list of states not recommended for travel and advises that whoever goes there will be doing it at their own risk and State may not be able to help if help will be needed.

Even in a free democratic country, in the otherwise laxist Europe, enlisting in a foreign army is the top motive of nationality loss.

Birdi ,   Israel   (01.05.13)
In 2010, the Israeli Government authorized a pilgrimage to Syria by a group of 300 Druze citizens of Israel interested in visiting religious sites there. Civilians are permitted to cross the border at Quneitra for university studies & marriage. Since 1993, 67 Syrian brides have crossed into the Golan Heights & 11 brides from the Golan have crossed into Syria. So with permission, visiting Syria is allowed.
36. Rebel fighters
Get Real ,   UK   (01.05.13)
If they are allowed to return to Israel can they ever be trusted? Israel's best policy is not to make too much effort in seeking their return.
37. @29
Ay ,   USA   (01.05.13)
In case you haven't noticed, there are some problems occurring in Syria right now. And something tells me it's not that hard to enter Syria right now for that reason. Whether through a guarded area or through some less official route. So, it is not unlikely that the guy had only Israeli passport.
38. #28 - just a quick question for clarifiction, Abdul
William ,   Israel   (01.06.13)
Did you also say "we must bring out boys home" when Gilad Shalit was held captive by Hamas, and several IDF soldiers were kidnapped and held hostage by Hizbullah?
39. #23 Sarah
Vlad   (01.06.13)
There are only 22 Jews still left in Syria. They are all elderly, and live in a building in Damascus adjacent to the city's synagogue.
40. To: Vlad at No. 39
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.06.13)
Oh, my goodness! I hadn't realized that the Jewish population had dwindled down to barely anything. Do they want to leave? Are they in danger? (Well, a Jew in Syria is always in some sort of danger; I mean is the fighting in Syria taking a toll upon them?) Do they have communication with Jewish communities outside of Syria?
41. To: Sjoerd at No. 26 - SECOND TRY
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.06.13)
Thank you for your kind words. As far as I am concerned, these two Israeli citizens gave up their citizenship. There is nothing for the Israeli government to take away. They chose their path, and must face the consequences of their choices.
42. Have these parents approached the relevant Israeli offices
Jrebecca ,   modiin   (01.06.13)
or have they just gone to the press? Foreign office and home office or whichever department is responsible is not going to act on a press report.
43. To: No. 29 - THIRD ATTEMPT
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.06.13)
Read the article. They entered Syria through Turkey, which is a very porous border. There is no second passport. But a very nice fanciful attempt on your part -- if you're inclined toward fiction. There are no unanswered questions.
44. Abdul, Jaffa
Shy ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.06.13)
Abdul, Who are "we"? The Government of Israel who must bring these two back to the Jewish State or Hamas should take them to Gaza maybe? There are more options for Israeli Arabs who want to become traitors of the State and meddle in very dangerous arab terrorist games... This time Israel has to show the world we are a land who embraced both Arabs and Jews, gave them citizenzip, a great democratic country. Before someone says: they were not abducted!
45. Syrians living in Israel
Shy ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.06.13)
As far as I know what you said applied to Syrian nationals living in the Golan Hights annexed to Israel who did not want Israeli citizenship after Syria lost this territory in a war. The Syrian government never allowed any Israeli citizen with an Israeli passport enter their territory so what you said is right: absolute good gesture of the State of Israel that never allowed or advised Israeli citizens enter hostile, enemy States to engage in military actions. Before someone says: Any Syrians willing to adopt Israeli citizenship are free to do so and automatically allowed. Israel is really the best place to live in the Middle East!
46. Israelis Entering Syria
Innocent Boys ,   Israel   (01.06.13)
These boys never heard about Israeli passport holders entering a terrorist country like Syria, Iran, Gaza... Oh I know they believe in 72 Virgins!
47. Israeli Passport Holders Cannot Enter Enemy States
Arab Israeli ,   Israel   (01.06.13)
You look funny: These few brave courageous patriots trying to defeat assad will be given two options: 1. be loyal to a new terrorist state enemy in war with Israel , 2. if Assad wins they will all be killed or in a miracle become loyal to Assad an old terrorist state in war with Israel - in both cases if they disagree with the winner, they die. Yes, it was very clear for them two before they entered Syria. Any Israeli passport holder willing to join them now?
48. After Syria Israel
Lenya ,   Australia   (01.08.13)
Are you mad commending Arab Jihadists ? The two joined their Arab "brothers" to take over Syria for Islamic Sharia....The rebels they joined have vowed that after Syria, Israel will be next...so will these two also help the rebels fight Israel ?
