Many great geniuses of humanity are oftentimes only deemed so posthumously. May this not be the case with one of our biggest sages and very often misunderstood by the secular public: Rav Ovadya Yosef.

Those dancing with glee likely don't know the brave halachic decisions Rabbi Ovadia Yosef made. I don't like some of the comments he has made over the years (they are often attempts at jokes), but he has been a great and moderating force in Jewish law. There is a TV documentary with English subtitles on youtube everyone should see. As the host says, he disagrees with 70% of what he has said but agrees with 70% of his halachic decisions.

Without Ovadiah Yosef, Rabin would never have had his coalition and the extreme Left would have never been able to force Oslo I on Israel. Barak, Sharon and Olmerd would have never been able to have their Leftist coalitions.
