1. "Basic Rights"
Joan Lipis ,   USA   (01.12.13)
We have come so far to demand parenthood as a "basic right." In what constitution or law book is that enunciated? A right? I suggest it is a privilege and an almost sacred responsibility. Parenthood is a gift from God given to a man and a woman - impossible in any other union. Sure every man and every woman has the opportunity of parenthood - done the only way possible.
2. Yes you can,with a woman...
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome-Italy   (01.12.13)
To h ave a child you need a man and a woman, the only one that can carry a baby....you do not need Netanyahu, you need a woman.... Gay is a burden, and a sin and before having a child you need to' sort out your psicologica ....two man=no children ...2woman=no children...a man and a woman=lots of children..
3. # 1
Ferdinand ,   Israel & France   (01.12.13)
Joan, the right to have children is certainly a basic human right. What is more, I'm pretty sure the author of this article would be a much better parent for a small kid than you could ever be.
4. @1
deavman ,   Acco, Israel   (01.12.13)
Amazing words from someone who obviously will never need to consider to go through this option in order to enjoy the gift of parenthood (I assumed you are a woman). Shame on you for denying others the fullfilment that being a parent and raising children brings to one's life and also society as a whole. Some of those children are adopted and while being probably ignored, unloved and also abused would thanks to these couples be given a loving home, a chance to a normal life and provide for themselves when time come'/ Others are brought to life through surrogacy thus being,by any legal standard, their own flesh and blood. I can only imagine your motives for your cruel, unwarranted, and almost sadistic words and I would have to blame a religious self-righteous upbringing in order to express such an ignorant opinion. Figures...
5. Dirty bigorty
Assaf ,   Haifa, Israel   (01.12.13)
You're a bigot.
6. Children BASIC right for a mother and father
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome-Italy   (01.12.13)
Children have your same BASIC right:to' have a mother and a father... The same right that dog and cast have... Gay have the rights to' live children alone with their mummy...
7. Sorry, it's not a "right", it's responcibility you gave up.
Miron ,   USA   (01.12.13)
I am sorry, LGBT community, but production of human material or engaging in procreational activities to order, as service to state, or paid for by a person, considered enslavement. This behavior is unbecoming of LGBT community. And it is state's responcibility to defend community from such demands. There will be repercussions.
8. #1 - Joan
Ariel ,   Modi'in, Israel   (01.12.13)
I agree one hundred percent. If these peoples unions were so natural then they should be able to procreate naturally... I didn't have to spend around 50 salaries to get married or bring children into this world!! (it has probably cost me a lot more to raise them though) :) BTW My condolences on your loss!!
9. Why mist the State give you a license..
Ariel ,   Modi'in, Israel   (01.12.13)
.. to bring children unto the world? God gave you that license but you decided to misuse the capability and now you want to blame someone else for your lack of the God-given ability to procreate. Hmmm...
10. Gay men are not granted the right to parenthood
michael peterson ,   London UK   (01.12.13)
Gay men are not granted the right to parenthood by either, Nature or God, depending in which one you believe in. Of course many heterosexual parents are bad ones, but can you imagine a child having two parents both of which are men. And the child has to call one mummy and the other daddy. The world has enough baskets case without raising more of them. And I don't care what two men or two women do when they're in the privacy of their homes!
11. Sorry but Having a Child is a Right
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (01.12.13)
To all who have posted negatively, having a child is the right of any adult. Adoptions take place because children need parenting. The bigger question of should we allow all people this right is being brought to question by the author of the article. As some pointed out he could father a child with a woman. But would that be responsible parenting or partnering? Clearly he is seeking a more viable and satisfying option. Too many people become parents who should have that right revoked. Those who abuse, their children are just the tip of the iceberg. Those who teach hate and bigotry, or self-loathing also need to be called into question. I therefore propose that Joan, Miron, and Ms. Sedda would make horrible parents and should be denied the opportunity to care for children. They are clearly not cut out for the task. Mr. Peterson of London is trying to play both sides of a coin..all I ask of him is does he think adoption by heterosexuals should be a "right" but homosexuals should be denied? That is the crux of the issue. If so he too should be denied the rights of parenthood. For in denying someone a "right" because of sexuality, you are very wrong.
12. #10 agreed
David ,   Israel   (01.12.13)
I agree with Michael. Not to mention that gay parenting is just unnatural, just think of the abuse the poor kid will have to endure just because this gay couple wants to feel good/different. At school, children, who generally aren't known as being especially tolerant, will most probably make a joke out of the unfortunate child. And in general, gay parenting makes the child's life much more difficult and traumatic. BTW>What will the kid call his adoptive parents? Daddy #1 and Daddy #2?
13. Incredibly arrogant
2Mad ,   גולה בצרפת   (01.12.13)
Many fine men are suffering their bad choice/luck of being divorced, and their children taken away. To raise a family is demanding task, implying many efforts. And you want to be absolved of the whole fuss all together ? Your lifestyle, based solely on your claim of being aroused by poop only, is tolerated - as long as it doesn't interfere to other people lives. It doesn't make you any "special" or "precious", and isn't entitling you to any free tickets, parking places, kids or anything !
14. Another serious side effect ...

themes as if they were violation of rights. In every civilization the story of mankind starts with a man and a woman, just like in the bible with modifications here and there, nevertheless humanity was created by the union of beings of two different sexes, and that includes the animal kingdom. I can undestand homesexuals want equility in society and I think equality can be given where it is fit, But parenthood should be the result of the union of the sperma with the egg.One is femenine the other masculine, as simple s that. Gay mariages shouldn't be allowed, marriage is between two sexes. They want to called it union or something else fine but not marriage. The reproduction is done by two different sexes even if it is done through diffrent methods as vitro etc, or surrogating it is still two different sexes. Most of homosexuals renunced to live in a way to procreate. Surrogating is not the normal way, this was done for infertile couples but not with the aim of solving an homosexual caprice. I think the judge was right to denny this guy parenthood under these circumstances
16. It's my party and I'll cry if I want to...
Lildoobird ,   Jerusalem   (01.12.13)
As a gay man I find the narcissim of my community at times embarrasing.
17. Perhaps there's another possibility
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (01.12.13)
Have you considered in vitro with a surrogate mother? I am fully supportive of your right to be a parent. Your child/ren might come out significantly more civilized and tolerant than others on this thread. I hope so, at least. You might have to take your ability to use your health plan's in vitro/surrogacy rights to court, but then, you won't have to pay a lawyer, right? ;) Best of luck!
18. #11. Gays have the right...well they have the tools too!
Harry Wright ,   UK   (01.12.13)
Let them use the tools how nature intended. THAT sir, is NOT the business of the state. I totally disagree with you and your proposal about the unsuitability as parents, of other posters who do not share your view. Let me just say that I exercised my "right" and used the tools that came in the package exactly according to instructions and how nature / the manufacturer intended, with great results - four beautiful children, cared for and nurtured by a wonderful mother (and father, of course) - not "horrible parents". Today, they are living wonderful and fruitful lives too with their own children. See, I left religion and God out of the discourse.

20. Surrogacy isn't a right
Ilan   (01.12.13)
Anyone honest would admit that surrogacy is ethically problematic. Money shouldn't make the poor into slaves
21. If gays want to be gay, that's their business...
Malone ,   Hfx   (01.12.13)
...but leave children out of it...they are thinking only of themselves and not the kids...how does the little grade 3 kid feel when he brings a friend home to meet his parents and there are two daddies/mommies? Kids can be cruel and this poor kid would be mocked at school, ostracized and bullied... This gay nonsense has gone too far...if you want to be gay, leave the kids out of it...for their sakes....end of rant!
22. @11 don't mince the words, it's not a right
Miron ,   USA   (01.12.13)
and demanding services to procreate on behalf of a person or organization is forbidden by international laws defending rights of every human being. Nobody has the right to approach you, regardless of their position, to demand giving birth, producing a child, or otherwise engaging in procreational activities for any reason in any shape or form. Nor can anyone employ any 3rd party to perform such requests on your behalf in any way. Slavery is forbidden. Learn to live with rights, before teaching others. And learn to stand for those rights.
23. practical considerations
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (01.12.13)
There are plenty of gay parents in Scandinavia, and in general their kids are fine. Two daddies, two mommies, who cares? It's nobody's business. It is really a non-issue. There are even more single parents out there, and I can say from experience that two parents (whatever their sex) are better than one. I don't really understand why this parent-to-be feels that he has to go abroad for surrogacy. Why not search via a Gay-Lesbian website in Israel? Then at least he would be able to vet potential birth mothers and select one that is suitable, healthy, well-nourished and with the same level of education as he. Most surrogates in the US and certainly in India are of the lower classes and would be less likely to produce a child as smart as this father. Best of luck in this!
24. No
Devorah   (01.12.13)
You have no "basic rights" to bring a child into the world as long as your spouse is of the same gender. You are not "equal" in this respect, and I am fed up with the narcissistic whines about equality. You don't want rights. You demand privileges and expect everyone else to embrace it. You demand that your perverted "normal" become everyone's "normal." Don't hold your breath.
25. A possible solution
Rachel ,   Netanya   (01.12.13)
Have you thought of getting some kind of arrangement with a lesbian girl just for the purpose of having children? You can have children with her, but under the understanding that you can still have your relationship with another guy. She could also have her relationship with another girl. Just a thought and it's much cheaper than the option you mentioned! Why scream to the government when a little bit of creativity could solve your problem? I know of gay guys who did exactly what I said you should do.
26. I have an idea
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.12.13)
There are millions of unwanted children in the world, desperate for a home. Consider adopting one.
27. ben ilan open letter
amir burstein ,   United States   (01.13.13)
just like with the case of " the women of the wall", ben ilan's predicament is... "screaming to high heavens"... and all of it is ONLY because israel, in spite of all its progress in many other areas of life, has essentially remained stuck in the DARK AGES when it comes to these basic human rights issues which most unfortunately remain controlled by the orthodoxy. and the fact that it remains that way is due to political expediency practiced by the gov. what the orthodoxy is practicing, in both issues, is actually breaking a BIG NO -NO in jewish halacha laws : they make their torah "KARDOM LACHPOR BO" = A TOOL TO DIG WITH. shame on them. no doubt, hashem IS plenty aware of that. and as we know, there always comes yom hadin.
28. #10 - avoiding censorship ..
Miss Skeptic ,   LA CA   (01.12.13)
Having to use a pseudonym but that's OK ;-) Be interesting to know if Ynet has a formula that moderators must follow, or if the 'moderators' often but not always ban what they personally dislike?
29. #18 - Did you use your 'tools' on a woman?
Miss Skeptic ,   LA CA   (01.12.13)
If so then tell us if she understood that you are a homosexual. You are being far from honest with your post. Who is this mother? Another man? C'mon let's get honest ... I don't even like the term, "you used your tool".
30. basic rights and basic wrongs
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (01.12.13)
Let's not get too crazy with this 'basic right' tout. It is imperitive that we Jews replenish ourselves with a father/mother meaning male/female relationship. The fact that some one is born on a kibbutz, serves in the army, pays taxes does not grant him the right to be wrong.
