1. Most people do not see this rubbish Made in Hollywood
Anna M sedda ,   Rome   (01.14.13)
I would like to remember that the all those film are seen by very few people...everyday people have better things to' do..Hollywood is dead, the cineamas are empy... The Hollywood -pallywood is at is end..
2. The problem is...
Michael ,   Lodz   (01.14.13)
the problem is that it has already become difficult to conceal the truth. Mr. Segal, you'd better listen to what these six former Shin Bet directors are telling. Time to return to negotiations. It is a task, it's not granted.
3. It´s a matter of security and not democracy( stupidcracy)
Keren ,   IL-BR   (01.14.13)
Where is the Supreme Court of Israel to condemn these filmakers and to stop once and for all this kind of internal dammaging??
4. About Dror Moreh "The Gatekeepers"
Kipp Adler ,   Herzliya   (01.14.13)
Dror Moreh was my teacher in a course called "Creativity and cinematography" He was hardly ever at school because he was busy filming this movie. I am glad that all though he wasn't a responsible teacher at least he made it to the oscars.
5. 5 broken cameras is a good film
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (01.14.13)
It does not put Israeli in the best light, but does not go out of it's way to demonize Israel. The security fence is a neccessary and saves lives, but this is not covered. It does show how Israel treats Palestinians in hospitals.
6. Not hard to vilify
Eldar ,   Haifa   (01.14.13)
If our country brushed up on its morality, the job of vilifying wouldn't be so easy. Stop defending and do some house cleaning, Segel!
7. The world according to Hagai Segal..
MelekhShaul ,   Jerusalem   (01.14.13)
...and Israel's place in it is one of blind paranoia. We are not a democracy, we don't have freedom of speech, we are not allowed to voice our concerns and criticisms. We should be blind patriots and perpetuate the sense that we are right and don;t need to be accountable for any of our actions, and the rest of the world has got it wrong. We're not talking about the Arab states do, we're talking about an Israel that struggles to meet it's own standards of democracy and which is about to nose dive deeper into its own abyss. But for Segal it's all OK, and we should shut up. 3 Monkeys philosophy is all very well in normality. We are not normal and Segal should stop the pretence that we are.
8. Oscars, Palestinians, anti-Israel?
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (01.14.13)
Since when do the Antisemites of this world need an excuse to hate Jews? Jews have been persecuted through the ages even before Christianity and Islam, the Spanish Inquisition did a fine job at Jewish Persecution as did the English under various monarchs. Pogroms in Eastern Europe, Czarist and Communist Russia and then, the ultimate disgrace of human behavior, the Holocaust. All this before the State of Israel was created and the nonsensical Palestinian "Problem" became the new weapon against Jews. The fact is that if Israel was to turn completely left and appease the Obamas, Camerons, Hollands and Ashtons of this world nothing would change. There will still be the vast majority of "good people" who hate the Jewish people and that is that!
9. Editor: Why are you NOT posting our comments?
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (01.14.13)
We have a right to be heard!
10. How is "the fence" supposed to...
Mark ,   London, UK   (01.14.13)
protect settler families who choose to live on the wrong side of it? I think it's very unlikely a film will ever be made sympathetic to people living on the wrong side of the fence, running around with guns all the time and subject to different laws than their neighbours.
11. Shame,
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (01.14.13)
for those jewish "artists" who made those, self hating, suicidal films ! But I have an other idea. Make a grandious israeli film about the life of Theodor Herzl. Who was he, what inspired him to found zionist movement, what difficulties had he to cope. The whole screenplay is ready in my head. Who want to realize it, contact with me !
12. There is no deeper hate, than self-hate...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (01.14.13)
it really seems to SUCK !
13. Anti Israel Festival
Steve ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.14.13)
Hagai, it may be painful to see a movie/documentary that appears to be anti-Israel but so what. We are strong enough to allow for the criticism. We are strong enough in our love and forgiveness as Jews/Israelis to allow different perspectives of the truth. Even if as in 5 broken cameras the intent is to embarrass, so what. It is part of being a Jewish State and a State of the Jews that a group of people will spend their time trying to depict us as the evil empire. But we are human beings and are not blameless. As long as we understand our failings and shortcomings only then can we become stronger as a nation. Our concern should be directed toward our promise to be moral people and live a Torah life as best as we can. Then the promise of redemption, personal and communal will be realized.
14. A true picture becomes a lie? Falsehood? By those involved?
miki ,   tampa   (01.14.13)
Time to go back into your ghetto before someone really scares you.
15. Israel's PR battle is already challenging enough
Expat ,   Adelaide   (01.14.13)
And then come these selfhating bozos and make it even more difficult. How can these films be considered 'Israeli'?...
16. Nomination is to show they hate us
Ilan   (01.14.13)
However, not enough to actually let the films get an award.
17. Mistaken understanding
Danny Wool ,   St Petersburg, USA   (01.14.13)
Mr. Segal is wrong in suggesting that Dror Moreh should have made an effort to seek out other security officials with opposing views. This film was not intended to provide a spectrum of views or even to present a single view. It is a film about the Shin Bet, plain and simple, told from the perspective of the six surviving men who led that organization. If those men have come to some unanimous conclusion or other about the peace process, the settlements, etc., then we should probably listen to it, instead of simply shopping around until we find some other perspective that is more akin to Mr. Segal's. Then again, Mr. Segal probably wasn't pleased with how these men portrayed his own brand of terrorism, for which he was arrested and served time.
18. Fake 3 Proud of Israel
Keren, IL-BR ,   Israel   (01.14.13)
This is a fake 3. I would never bear such fascist and Third Word-vies like this spineless imposter. On the contrary, I am proud of my country that is completely free and democratic. Imposter, go back to your disgusting Third World, authoritharian universe and leave us alone. I hope Israel can win all the prizes. Kol ha kavod.
19. #18 is not mine.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (01.14.13)
20. Israel is not like other countries
SG ,   Teaneck   (01.14.13)
Unfortunately, Israel is subject to greater scrutiny than any other country in the world. Leave the term "anti-semitism" out for the moment, there is clearly a fixation with Israel, especially a willingness to embrace all things bad. Free speech is great, but arming our enemies with negative propaganda is not. Why broadcast Israel's shortcomings, real or perceived, to the outside world? Is there any reason outside of ego and $'s? Keep your "frank" discussions within the family.
21. To # 12 You are wrong !!!!!!!!!
Stan ,   Israel   (01.14.13)
I do not hate myself, I do not hate Israel, I do not hate Jews. I DESPISE THOSE DESPICABLE JEWS WHO ARE DOING TO ANOTHER NATION WHAT OUR PEOPLE SUFFERED FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
22. "international obsession with shaming it."
Giora Me'ir ,   USA   (01.14.13)
With good reason. Of course, if current day Israel were capable of shame, maybe these movies wouldn't have been made.
23. #12 You obviously know it well
(01.14.13)
So open yourself to love, honey.
24. It should be called Kapo Cinema
eli ,   haifa   (01.14.13)
25. documentaries
rm ,   Amsterdam NL   (01.14.13)
both documentary's are acclaimed. they deserve the nominations. Even if the likes of this writer don't like it at all....
26. To #21 "Stan"
josh ,   new york   (01.14.13)
Are you Norman Finkelstein?
27. Many of these anti-Israel films funded by ... Israel
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.14.13)
Most Israeli artists - film makers included - lean left. That however hasn't stopped elements of the government, anxious to develop Israel's film industry, from providing grants to these same film makers, who go on to portray Israel in a negative light. That plays to the predispositions of film critics, especially in Europe.
28. # 13....Weill there be enough time to become 'moral'
Edithann ,   USA   (01.14.13)
after you've killed all your enemies? How will you know when you've succeeded? TATA
29. They need fear us
Zechariah   (01.14.13)
We need to be feared as the end of times are threatened.Climate change nuclear winters overpopulation tribalism are all potential catastrophes It's payback time they got off lightly not just us but for the other genocides the Irish Armenians the Bosnian Atrocities .With. mega cities the Palestinians can live well. Most of Israel is military bases underground shelters weapons stores nuclear minefields or ought be. Our aim a maximum militirized survivalist state with Jewish and humanitarian characteristics .
30. To #21 - Stan
Daniela   (01.14.13)
Palestinians attack us and kill us because they hate us and because they want our land ! They don' t want us here in Israel. We do not do anything to them if they leave us in peace, but they don't. We have the right to difend ourselves and to defend our land.
