1. Rise up & DEMAND Patriotic Right government.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.22.13)
The author is correct. Israel consistently votes for Patriotic Right governments but ends up shackled with lunatic leftist policies of suicidal appeasement and retreat. It is up to Israeli citizens to put a permanent end to this disgraceful and undemocratic situation. Israel votes right and we must get right. No more sick leftist policies rejected by the vast majority of Israel!
2. If Bennett negotiates the heart of the land Israel...
Steve   (01.22.13)
...then Jews will have to look for a new leader who is committed to preserving all of our land. Rising star, Naftali Bennett told the YNet interviewer yesterday, Moses (Moshe the "stutterer") is his role model. Would Moses negotiate away the heart of the land of Israel under any circumstances? No way.
3. Chaim #1: I disagree
Steve   (01.22.13)
You say, "Israel consistently votes for Patriotic Right governments but ends up shackled with lunatic leftist policies of suicidal appeasement and retreat." Ariel Sharon, when he ran for re-election in 2003 was pretty clear where he was heading; "disengagement." So is PM Netanyahu post University of Bar Ilan speech.
4. Chaim #1 - who is insane?
Miche Norman ,   Hod Hasharon   (01.22.13)
If you think that pissing off our sole ally before launching an attack on a country 50 times our size with tentimes as many rockets as we have is sane, then good luck to you, if you think that de facto turning the situation into a single state from the sea to the river thus guaranteeing an anti-zionist majority within 15 years is sensible and sane thenheaven help us.
5. #4:Why assume that WE're always guilty of offending the
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.22.13)
World?! How about "screw the World& our allies, that care only about THEIR interests"? (as it should be anyway) If it strenghtens our cause then to Hell with the Manchurian in the White House!
6. M Norman #4
Avi W ,   Netanya   (01.22.13)
If you think that the 67 borders, a 7 mile wide strip of land in the center of the country, and no east Jerusalem is defensable. Losing the biblical heartland, is a "jewish" thing to do, who"s insane?
7. #5 And what then?
Ferdinand ,   Israel & France   (01.22.13)
Tom, of course we could go with your "screw the world"-idea. You could ask the people in Albania how they liked it during the 40 years Albania said "Screw the world". Or you can ponder how happy the North Koreans really are right now. That is the best case scenario of saying "screw the world". In the worst case scenario, Iran manages to develop nuclear weapons, perhaps even distributing them to regimes that do what Iran wants. Do you think your "Screw the world"-philosophy would do much to reduce that risk, or that it would make it easier for us to get support if the worst happened? Actually Tom, people like you are a bigger threat to Israel than Hamas and Fatah combined. There's only so much they can do (very little) but people like you could easily destroy Israel.
8. Those who seek to trim Israel's waist to 9 miles are insane!
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.22.13)
#4. You ask, "Who is insane?" Answer: Those who seek to trim Israel's waist to 9 miles (15 minute tank ride) are insane. Those who seek to drive Jews from our ancestral heartland of Judea and Samaria, because of the hoax of the "Arab population bomb" are insane. Countless credible studies prove Jews are a growing majority in Israel; including Judea and Samaria. Those who seek to endanger Israel to please the most hostile U.S. President in history are insane.
9. #3. Examples of Israel voting right and getting left.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.22.13)
Ariel Sharon won a landslide election victory based on his opposition to ceding Gaza. Yet, after his election. he ceded Gaza. This is one of many examples of Israel voting for a patriotic right wing government and being shafted with disastrous leftist policies. Netanyahu betrayed every Likud principle when he endorsed the monstrous Two State Final Solution. That is largely why Bennett is becoming ever more popular.
10. Miche #1: our "sole" ally.
Steve   (01.22.13)
Israel is only approximately 8-10,000 square miles of land mass. Our sole ally - which has nearly 3 million square of square miles of land, expropriated from her natives - wants Israel's right arm, leaving her vulnerable to mass-slaughter; nearly defenseless. What kind of ally is that?
11. 2 Steve Please be respectful...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.22.13)
when talking about Moshe Rabenu !
12. The answer is simple.
Stan ,   Israel   (01.22.13)
All Nationalistic Right Wing leaders, carry out policies of the Center-Left when they lead the country because they know what is good for Israel. Menachem Begin, Ariel Sharon, Ehud Ulmert. These views are also supported by most of Israel's former Security and Intellegence chiefs.
13. Ora #11: funny
Steve   (01.22.13)
Moshe Rabenu, right. You know Moshe never claimed to be a rabbi. Not in the written Torah which I read. He did not even claim to be a king. That was part of his "charm" so to speak; humility. That is why Mr. Bennett said Moshe was his role model. If Bennett maintains his humility before God, he will do great things.
14. #12. Leftist polices are cause of almost ALL suffering.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.22.13)
#12 Stan. I wish you were joking. Leftist policies are the root cause of virtually ALL Israel's suffering. The idiotic leftist idea to flee South Lebanon is the ONLY reason for our Lebanon Wars and the tens of thousands of rockets from Lebanon. The idiotic leftist idea to flee Gaza is the only reason for our Gaza Wars and the tens of thousands of rockets from Gaza. Lunatic leftist Oslo maimed and murdered tens of thousands of Israeli Jews. Israel must put an end to lunatic leftist rule once and for all. NEVER vote for a leftist government.
15. #9: sorry, you were not paying careful enough attention...
Steve   (01.22.13)
I was paying fairly close attention to both Sharon and Bush. You may recall, a few weeks after the September 11, 2001 (jihad) sneak attacks in New York and Washington, George W. Bush (I voted for him in 2000; sadly) unveiled his "vision" early October 2001 for a Palestinian state in Israel's heartland. (Bush had cut this deal with then Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah late Aug. 2001. Bush sold-out Israel before the Sept. attacks.) After Bush's betrayal, Sharon properly gave his Czechoslovakia speech / warning, pleading with Bush not to do Israel what the great powers did to the Czechs at Munich, 1938 when England and France sold-out the Czechs to Germany. Sharon declared, "We will not be Czecholovakia; we will fight terrorism." Then Sec. of State Colin Powell got on the phone and demanded a retraction which Sharon forthrightly gave the US publicly. It was all down hill from there. Bush pressed his Road Map on Sharon, which Sharon and his cabinet accepted with reservations which the Bush administration refused to recognize. In the following months, Sharon began stating (prior to the 2003 elections), "A Palestinian state is inevitable," and "We are going to have to make painful concessions." You say, " Ariel Sharon won a landslide election victory based on his opposition to ceding Gaza. Yet, after his election. he ceded Gaza..." He did not specifically say he would forcibly uproot thousands of law-abiding Jews from Gaza. Do you think he was a stupid man? Do you expect Netanyahu would campaign that he might have to uproot thousands of Jews from Judea and Samaria because of pressure from a re-energized (newly re-elected) Barack Obama? What did you think Sharon meant by his repeated refrain, "We are going to have to make painful concessions?" What did you think he meant by, "A Palestinian state is inevitable?"
16. 13 Thanks Steve, fine comment.

solomon ,   bklyn   (01.23.13)
Hamas and Fatah can do very little to Israel? Let’s hope the IDF doesn’t give them the chance. But a few thousand rockets is nothing to laugh at. Never underestimate your enemy. I’ll take Tom over Hamas and Fatah as he deals in words, not rockets.
18. Right did not win! Not counting Arab and Haredi parties:
Leftist Lenny ,   Carmiel, Israel   (01.23.13)
Right=42, Left=48.
19. #18. Your numbers are flawed. The Right won.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.23.13)
#18 Lenny. Your numbers are flawed. You can't assume that centrists will all line up with the left. Centrists have joined rightist coalitions many times. The Right won this election handily.
20. Israel is made to dance for world
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (01.24.13)
In any other situation, the world would say that the enemies of Israel do not want peace, that OSLO was a failure and that Israel has the right to all of the land in Judea and Samaria. However, Because Jews are involved the world harasses Israel and forces them to bend over backwards to appease it's enemies and prevents Israel from properly defending itself. OSLO should be made null and void, but the world wants to make Israel dance.
21. Same old story
Philippe ,   Raanana   (01.24.13)
Again and again, you are deprived of your vote. As long as the electoral system is the actual one , the theft is legitimate . 250,000 votes are totally wasted ( their parties are unelected -under the 1,5% threshold ) and given as a free gift to the highest parties. So dear Me Haetzni, if you and all the zionist parties do not make the chnage of the electoral system at the top of urgencies, the result ( weak government, bowing to the internal blackmail (of the small antizionist parties - arabs, haredim - leftists ) and to the external blackmail of the USA-Europe will go on and on. he reform of the elctoral system is simple :a mimimum threshold of 5% ( like in Germany )- Or a radical reform with majority system based on 120 electoral districts , each totalizing 75,000 voters ( the actual mimimum of 1,5% of the electoral population ).The majority system has a big advantage over the proportionnal, it gives a clear cut government able to govern for the whole mandate.( do remeber that the median life of an israeli government is 2 1/2 years). In addition the israelis expatriates must be able to vote , like in all western democracies. And I can assure you that this group of expat will be much closer to the right than to the left.It is no accident that the arabs, the leftist, do raise some false arguments against this basic right( those expats would sent to war the resident israelis ) when those very anti-zionists do vote to go to war ( like shas voting with Olmert the 2006 war ) but do not share the burden ( exactly as the israelis expats ).So please instead of whining again , get your act together; change ounce for all the electoral system.
