1. Religious Jews who live outside of Israel
Neomi   (01.24.13)
mix work and pleasure (studies of the Tora) quite successfully. Why is it that ONLY in Israel, religious Jews cannot work? I. personally, think that they should NOT go to the army. They are too awkward and backward to serve in the army (besides, how many Kosher supervisors does an army needs?). BUT they should definitely work and pay taxes !!!
2. Shas & UTJ
mordechai ,   Beit Shemesh   (01.24.13)
Finally the opportunity has arrived to get back the fiefdoms they have carved out for themselves, take back the Interior ministry, and the housing ministry, not allow Gafni back as chairman of the finance committee and get Bittman out of the health ministry. there are 2 red lines for Lapid that he voters demand, 1 equality, all haridi at 18 to go to the army and it is the IDF that determines their conditions and not the other way round, they don't like prison is the alternative! 2nd. the y must not be allowed to to get their hands on any funds. they can have ministries with no budgets or that are such that all their allocations are the vast amounts of money poured every yead in to the settlement has to stop, the money has to be used for the poor and underprivilaged inside Israel. the settlements need money let them work for it by charging higher local taxes make it a burden to live in the settlements, how quick most of them will return home to houses they let out for high rents whilst living in cheap housing in the settlements. in fact instead of instead of supporting the the settlers a completely transparent. Finally
3. Cannot claim democracy w/o equal burden for all!
Mea   (01.24.13)
No equivocating! It is unfathomable that on e sector be allowed to live off the backs of the rest of society. I pray, too, and no one on this earth can tell me my prayers are not equal, so therefore I cannot be required to pay more burden in order to support the prayers of Another citizen-or - that my child's should be sent to war while another's kid sits and prayers and does not go. Israel wants democracy ? Better figure out that protecting parasites like Satmar filth isn't doing anything to improve your standing in the international community.
4. Time to kick out Shas once and for all
Haim ,   TA   (01.24.13)
5. They should be trembling
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD   (01.24.13)
Conscription of hareidi yeshiva students will lead some to openly object on religious grounds (that the state is not validly constituted under Jewish law, and that there is no halachic basis for Jews to displace the Muslims by force), and if such persons are not exempted as conscientious objectors, they will engage in civil disobedience and seek protection from international human rights groups. In addition, if the army tries to harass hareidi conscripts for being "too frum", it will turn many of them into virulent anti-zionists. Both the hareidi parties have based their existence on getting money and draft exemptions, and if that falls apart, the anti-zionists who don't accept government money and would have no problem in a single (Islamic) state solution will replace the current pro-zionist parties (Shas and United Torah Judaism).
6. I think all the parties are eager..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.24.13)
to find some common ground. Where there is a will there is a way, with G-Ds help.
7. kick out shas
avi ,   givat zeev   (01.24.13)
Well done Haim ! Kick out Shas once and for all ! If people really knew what shas stands for they would be shocked!! Rav Avadia Yosef said that if there is a draft of all 18 year olds he will tell them to leave the country ! So now we know ! Shas takes money for its supporters BUT doesnt care at all about the State Of Israel !!
8. Dear Lord - please keep them OUT
Talula ,   Israel   (01.24.13)
They are nothing but a bunch of thieves, liars and his county would do so much better and have so much more money without them. What decent government would EVER have an ex-con in their parliament - and we all know there's plenty of them in Shas.
9. #1 They most definitely SHOULD serve in the army
Talula ,   Israel   (01.24.13)
There are haredi units - that's what they are for. They ALL need to serve their country, not just milk it for what they can get.
10. IDFand democracy
Barry ,   Modiin   (01.24.13)
I find it interesting how countries with NO democratic traditions do not draft Divinity students into the army. Countries like the United States, where students in yeshivas and seminaries are classified as 4-D and given exemptions.
11. #7 - Tell me something I don't know...
(01.24.13)
12. #6 - common ground
Haredi Pontiff ,   Israel   (01.24.13)
requires tolerance of diverse opinions -- entirely lacking in Ultra-Orthodox circles. They only respond to shekels, subsidies and special treatment as some kind of priestly elite -- Jewish popes.
13. @12 common ground requires tolerance of diverse opions
Jrebecca ,   modiin   (01.24.13)
mostly lacking in Secular circles too. Neither side wants to consider the other.
14. Ora - get the message
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (01.24.13)
Ora the message sent by the electorate is crystal clear - Mr. Ovadia Yosef, Mr. Deri and Mr. Eli should have their snouts kept our of the trough.
15. Outstanding students
Zechariah   (01.24.13)
The number of outstanding students could be lifted to a thousand and as the Haredim provide excellent Hatzollah service extension to army bases ought be no big deal.
16. I think it´s great for the haredi to
Arad ,   Arad   (01.24.13)
be part of the workforce and be drafted to the IDF/national service. As matter of fact a lot of the younger heredi generations want to be part of these. But media often doesn´t show the secular/establishment oposition to that inclusion. IDF could draft a lot more haredim if expand the Netzah Yehuda, and create more units (combat, support, technical) with appropiate accomodations for their needs. But there is a opposition for their inclusion and draft within the IDF. Also when a haredi go to a job interview, they often are shunned away whether they are capable and prepared or not
17. Draft exemptions
Sharona   (01.24.13)
Hey Barry, In the US there is NO draft. It is an all volunteer army. FYI
