1. Oslo based on a pack of lies and delusions
G Marcus ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.24.13)
The Oslo agreement was based on a number of "big lies": (a) That the conflict is only with the Arabs of West Bank/Gaza instead of Arab/Islamic Imperialism in general; (b) That the conflict is "territorial", i.e., relates to only part of the lands under Israel, instead of being "existential", i.e., relating to ALL lands that constitute Israel; (c) That there existed a national group such as "Palestinians" deserving a sovereign state, while in actual fact by self-admission there existed only Arabs of "Greater South Syrian" ethnic identity, that already had a state in Jordan. In fact if these Arabs would ever get a state, Fatah would aspire to join a pan-Arab empire, while Hamas would strive to become part of a pan-Islamic Caliphate. (d) That the PLO gave up on the "right of return" of 1948 Arab refugees, or that in Arab/Muslim eyes it even had the right or authority to do so; (e) That the PLO recognized Israel as the Jewish nation-state, while in reality it only recognized Israel as a state that will be transform itself into the 3rd Palestinian-Arab state (besides Jordan and "Palestine") by way of the return of Arab refugees to Israel proper. In short Oslo was based on nothing but a pack of lies and deceit. In that capacity it might qualify as the worst political blunder -- or political crime, depending on how you want to look at it -- in Israel's history. Based on the great harm it inflicted on Israel's security, at a minimum, Oslo would certainly have required a national commission of inquiry!
2. #1 Oslo might be studied in the future
Logic ,   Israel   (01.24.13)
in the context of Jewish history and suffering. I'm no historian, but it fits into the pattern of false messiahs in Jewish history, but this time, rather than a person like Shabbetai Zvi, it was the concept of peace and the end of suffering promoted by the leadership to a desperate people.
3. marcus said it all
geroge   (01.24.13)
and beillin and peres should be grilled in the committee for leading israel down the garden path causing 2000 israeli dead and many more severe injuries as a result of this deal with a pack of lier, robbers and murderers. They should account for all the israeli suffering and do some community service. They still perpetuate their lies since their lives are eternally damned because of oslo.
4. ever wonder why
arne ,   chicago usa   (01.24.13)
bill clinton doesn't visit Israel? It may be because he's ashamed to face the people there. after all he's really the one who pushed for oslo and with a weak prime minister (rabin) and likewise ( peres) he was able to musele them up
5. excellent editorial
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (01.24.13)
i totally agree with the author. oslo was a delusion and a disaster which had cost the lives of thousands of innocent people.
6. equal obligations and opportunities
Leah Goldsmith ,   Itamar Israel   (01.24.13)
The time has come to realize the equal obligations all citizens of Israel have to settle the heartland of Israel- Samaria- while enjoying many opportunities for a quality of life beyond their wildest dreams- Oslo is dead and buried THANK G-D- let's pick up the pieces together and build a strong and secure Israel in it's ancestral Land as one people with one heart!
7. Economy
GF ,   Jerusalem   (01.24.13)
The only way Netanyahu will be able to even out the economy is if he has the strength to take on the Oligarchy families that run this place. When I can buy an Egossi bar in Jerusalem for the same 2.70 NIS that I pay in NY (and not 5.70 NIS) then he will have succeeded. Anything else is just a fantasy.
8. Oslo died a long time ago
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.24.13)
I think most Israelis have arrived at the conclusions reached by Ophir Falk. Peace with the ersatz "Palestinians" is not realistic; giving up Judea and Samaria is not realistic. Annexation is the only possibility, followed by the repatriation to Jordan of the Arabs living in Judea and Samaria. That will naturally culminate in affordable and desirable housing for a great many Israelis. I'm also comfortable with the concept of universal military service -- or some form of national service in lieu of serving in the military. No exceptions. The haredim who refuse to serve should lose their stipends. Israeli Arabs who refuse to serve or to perform national service should not be permitted entry to university in Israel. No more free rides for anyone. That's how you build a just society. (Obviously, people legitimately exempt from military service would not to subject to penalties.)
9. Clinton's claim to fame. Turning rock throwers into
full blown terrorist ,   what a dupe!   (01.25.13)
10. Oslo maimed and murdered thousands of Israelis.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.25.13)
Oslo is not merely irrelevant. It maimed and murdered thousands of Israeli civilians. All these people would be alive and well today had they not fallen victims to delusional leftist leaders who make others pay for their folly.
11. "Confronting internal rather than external challenges...
Thomas the Doubter ,   USA   (01.25.13)
...now rules the day." If the Muslim Brotherhood seizes power in Damascus and then makes its move on Amman, then Israel will have a whole lot of external challenges. But, don't worry, by that point you will probably have an ex-television anchor as your prime minister. Have fun Israel!!!
12. OSLO was a historic mistake and a tragedy
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (01.25.13)
OSLO only served to make Israel's enemies stronger and the Left Wing only succeeded in weakening Israel's position in the world. Israel must reverse all of OSLO and do so in an intelligent manner explaining the Palestinian myth and by annexing all of the Jewish homeland. Our lack of unity is what is prolonging the conflict. We need our enemies to unconditionally surrender for a genuine peace to have a chance. This is how the Axis powers became the Allies friends today.
13. Like with any divorce, first it has to be decided upon, inte
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.25.13)
rnalized and only THEN will one wonder about who/when/how gets the house, childeren and how to divide the account (if any is to be diveded). What will happen with the occupying Arabs of Judea& Samaria is to be decided upon later. First we have to know, that we are not giving up on our territory.
14. Fundamental problem for Israelis:
(01.25.13)
Possible drop in housing prises like everywhere.
15. Oslo is relevant for today
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (01.25.13)
Oslo is relevant for today. If we realize that it was a giant mistake and we must analyze it so that we do not repeat it. We thought that the Arabs we sincere in wanting peace, to live with us side by side and to prosper with us. We were blinded by our desires to live in peace as the other nations of the world do. We let our dreams and desires block out the reality of the Arab mind set. The Islamic mind sees Israelis as taken over Islamic land. This was land that was under Islam, Turkey, and therefore dir al Islam. It is a slap in Islam's face that we infidels have usurped it from them and they feel they must avenge the stain upon Islam by taking over control here. If we remember this and learn the lesson of Oslo, then Oslo is relevant for today, tomorrow and always. We must learn from our mistakes, not block them out with unrealistic dreams.
16. # 8 Obtuse thought
Keren IL-BR ,   Israel   (01.25.13)
Nothing is more obtuse and antizionist than hoping that 2.5 million people will gladly leave their house and relocate to another country even if paid 1 million dollars each. They will not. They will stay here and they will demand full political and civil rights with the support of the entire international community, including fellow Americans, very sensitive to minority rights. It is easy to preach wishful thinking solutions seated confortably in Flabush Avenue when you don't have kids in the Army to enforce crazy solutions.
17. To No. 16
Bertram ,   London, UK   (01.25.13)
May I also add a thought. Sarah B's apparent justification for deporting her 'ersatz' Palestinians is that the annexed territory will become part of Israel and thus the 'ersatz' Palestinians will have the status of foreigners. How will their status be any different from current Arab citizens of Israel? After all, according to Sarah B, they are no less foreign since they (or their forbears) had originally come from other territories to live in Eretz Yisrael. So why not deport them too? Clearly Israeli Arabs were granted Israeli citizenship erroneously. She should try that as a political platform. After all, that kind of policy worked in Europe at various times in its history.
18. if israel accepts us as israelies
marek ,   westbank   (01.25.13)
85% of westbank palestinians will be happy. the rest are in-all-cases always against anything and just need to be kept ignored, and imprisoned if they break the law.
19. The fitting, humane AND painful punishment for the "archi-
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.25.13)
tects" of Oslo should be through history books in all of Israeli schools: truthfully describing their action for what they really were! That'sa fitting punishment for people who's grand egos make them seek a "Place in History".
20. Oslo is the PARADIGM of Antizionism !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (01.25.13)
21. Oslo's dead's so is the 'two state' solution
bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (01.25.13)
There never was or will be a palestine within Israel. The best guarantee is for Israel to BUILD BABY BUILD!!!!! AND OF COURSE, ANNEX BABY ANNEX!!!!!! The jig's up for the pals, they've become BEGGARS while Israel's busy BUILDING BABY BUILDING !!!!
22. To: No. 18
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.25.13)
Sorry, but no. I don't wish to be mean, but when Judea and Samaria are annxed -- as they will be -- we are going to repatriate you to Jordan. You've never given us a single reason to think that you can ever be good Israelis. And a lot of reasons to think that you never will be. I hope you understand -- but I really don't care if you do or do not. It's a little hard for us to get past seven decades of unremitting terror, hatred and violence. Do you really want me to recite the litany of suicide bombings and other terror attacks? I can. It's just that it makes me so sick, I'd really rather avoid it. We do not believe you and we do not trust you. Can you really blame us? Or does history speak for itself?
23. To: No. 17
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.25.13)
Silly question, Bertie. Arab citizens of Israel are Arab citizens of Israel. West Bank Arabs are Jordanian citizens. Surely you do not mean to suggest that Israel does not enjoy the right of all sovereign states; that is, to decide who may live within its borders. Most maritime arbitrations are held in the U.K. I've been there a time or two or three or five hundred. Believe it or not, there are quite a few Brits who wish that the U.K. had never opened its doors to Moslems. They just don't seem to make very good citizens. Did July 7 teach you nothing? By the way -- yes, this is stating the obvious, but that is apparently as much as your brain can handle -- Jews from anywhere in the world are entitled to Israeli citizenship. The same is not the case for non-Jews. Sorry -- that's just the way it is. And it isn't going to change. And before you cry out in protest, how much luck do you think you will have trying to obtain citizenship in an Arab country? For that matter, exactly what do you think would happen should you attempt to secure citizenship in Switzerland or Liechtenstein? Hell, for that matter, Andorra. And why should different rules apply to Israel than apply anywhere else in the world? Do you have any more asinine comments with which to regale us? Go for it! By the way, it's spelled "forebears." Shame on you.
24. You have to see oslo in the spiritual sense that Jews made
Moshe ,   Usa   (01.25.13)
a peace agreement with wicked people who will give no peace to any other people & who have no peace amongst even themselves . . . . and it only proves the beautiful truths of the Torah that . . . "he has his hand on everyone & everyone has their hand on him". And that is the only benefit of the oslo accord. Jews are beginning to see this now . . . shamefully late! The world is also seeing this now, but not with as much enthusiasm because of their unethical selfishness for $. But stupid liberal Jews are changing their opinion to see oslo & arobs for what they are! And there will NEVER be peace with arobs for 1000 years! And they will have to be brutally beaten in warfare by many nations in order for this to occur. Take my word for it.
25. # 17 Thanks Bertram
Keren IL-BR   (01.25.13)
You are right. In reality, those who defend the One State Solution are the ones who wants to see the binational State, which means the end of the Zionist dream. People like erstaz Sarah B. are more dangerous than the Arabs because they pretend they are supporting Israel, but in fact are destroying it from within. Our task as real Israelis, who live here, who face hardships and threats to our identity is to fight erstaz Sarahs from Brooklyn Heights.
26. The Oslo debacle is a four-letter word: SHAM!!!
Taz Man ,   USA   (01.25.13)
Rabin was a godless FOOL, thus was judged by God because he tried to divide His land. No person has the right to do that--period! The Israelis' are only caretakers of God's Holy Land. So, it would behoove other Israeli leaders' who try to give God's land away, to think twice on such folly. God is no respecter of men! Again, ALL Jewish land belongs to God; the peace process is a lie that God detests and will destroy--guaranteed! God bless, Israel and His Jerusalem!!! A Christian Zionist
27. Israelis voted for a Secure and Sensible State
Voter   (01.25.13)
Foreign Policy was not an issue in the elections neither was a change in leadership. The issues were internal: equal rights and obligations, affordable housing, small government, lower cost of living. This adds up to a goverment of Likud-Beitenu, Bennet, Lapid and whoever else wants to follow that line.
28. To No. 23
Bertram ,   London, UK   (01.25.13)
Your retort hardly deserves a response but here goes, anyway: 1. How many times do you have to be told: West Bank Arabs are not Jordanian citizens. Do your homework - fully, not partially. 2. Since they are not Jordanian citizens, your policy is one of deportation of an unwanted people. (where have we heard that before). 3. So, you support the right of every sovereign state 'to decide who may live within its borders'. So a country can annex a territory but throw out its inhabitants. Isn't that called ethnic cleansing? 4. By far the majority of British Muslims live peaceably in the UK. But that wouldn't interest those of you who live in perpetual fear and just love sensationalism. A bit like judging the whole of American society on the basis of the the not infrequent, home-grown, appalling mass murders - most recently of children. Or judging Israel - and Jews - on the basis of Dr Goldstein's massacre of Muslims. 5. Yes, Jews anywhere are entitled Israeli citizenship as opposed to non-Jews. Looks really good from our standpoint. Looks unjust from the standpoint of others who may have much closer and immediate connections with the land. 6. Your point about trying to obtain citizenship in an Arab country, Switzerland, Andorra, or whatever, is ludicrous. Leaving aside the denial of the rights of Jews who were expelled or migrated from Arab countries, which is unjust, what citizenship rights should I expect ? I wasn't born in any of them - unlike the Arabs of the West Bank! 7. Your final comment just about sums up the workings of your brain. Your pedantry is misplaced. According to the Collins English Dictionary, 'forebear' has the alternative spelling of 'forbear'. Those are all my asinine comments for now.
29. Oslo
milton ,   qazir israel   (01.25.13)
what a horrible racist superior point of view. You can only say this because, although in a consensus, you are part of a minority...but you are on the side of guns and money,so you dismiss the horrible effects of occupation that is costing this country in terms of its moral and economy. What a horrible"Iam supreior to you"editorial, even more so because so many comments agree with you. You,your family, maybe have been here 60 years, maybe a bit longer...heck,maybe you have been here only a few years...what you know, but fail to want to recognize,is that many many Palestinians,,indeed, may Israeli Arabs families have been here for 500 years, get a grip.
30. To: No. 25
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.25.13)
Brooklyn Heights? Where's that? By the way, you are about as Israeli as the King of Saudi Arabia. Give it up, chica. We're onto you. And you are not Keren of Israel and Brazil. Try harder next time -- you're dealing with Jews. We're really, REALLY smart. You, on the other hand, are a cheap fake. Oh, one more question -- what is "erstaz?" Can't find it in my dictionary.
