1. French court..
Beary White ,   Norway   (01.26.13)
can not stop anyone from beeing critically about the religion of islam. Or to convince the islamic followers that the old nortern scandinavian ASATRU with gods Tor and Odin, is more eatable.. Islam is the common religion inflicted in nearly all the wars in northern Africa, promoting the religion with violence.
2. So it's a better policy to hide the antisemites?Really?
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.26.13)
3. There goes freedom of speech
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (01.26.13)
First they came for the anti semites, I did nothing I am not an anti semite, then they came for those who criticise Israel, I did nothing I am an Israeli, then they came for those who criticise the Haredi, I did nothing because I don't care about the Haredi, then they came for the trade Unionists, I did nothing for I am not a trade unionists, then they came for me, and when I called out there was no-one. This iks a very dangerous precedent, with a real danger for freedom of speech particularly when on things like Twitter you can block a person so you don't hae to read what they tweet. Not to mention who deicdes what is anti semitic, offensive or whatever. This is a vry dangerous road make no mistake, just look what the nazis did to silence those who criticises them
4. good decision!
tiki ,   belgium   (01.26.13)
The so called "freedom of speech" has gone much to far and has lost it's meaning. It has become a vehicle for (anonymous) frustrated haters.
5. 3 - NO - there goes freedom of HATE speech....
Adam ,   London, England   (01.26.13)
it doesn't take a smart person to realize clearly there is a difference.
6. #3 Where does your freedom stop?
Raphael ,   Netanya   (01.26.13)
The limits of speech freedom is the libel, insult and racist slur. The US legislation about freedom of speech boosted the traditional antisemitic bigotry to a worldwide hate industry. If no justice decision stops this incitement, some jewish Breivik will do it.

So who is going to decide what we are and are not allowed to say? If I tell a joke and out of a hundred people you are the only one to find it offensive, does that give you the right to deny the other 99 from hearing that joke? This is a very scary and dangerous road to go down
8. Freedom of speech
deavman ,   Acco, Israel   (01.26.13)
I don't know what was said in those twitter messages but I don't think they were any worse than all the anti-Jewish/Israel sentiments being spewed on the various internet channels. Freedom of speech should be paramount and I am a bit disappointed by the French gov. deciding to take such drastic measures . Unless there is a definite call for violence, Twitter should be left alone.

The question is who decides what can or cannot be said? What is anti semitic or a legitimate criticism of the Israeli government and it's policies. I'm sorry as a Jew I can see this causing more trouble than it is actually worth, How many millions are on Twitter around the world? And if Twitter is sanctioned how many will not look at the issue but merely blame the Jews? And what happens if the people who posted are not French? You going to demand their extradition for telling a joke on Twitter? You seen Israel's twitter feed during the last re-election campaign by Netanyahu in Gaza? You going to get Twitter to hand over the identities of the posters who posted vile things about the Gazans? Or is that different?

Who decides what is hate speech or not? You, me who?

Holocaust stared with the hateful speeches, articles, then changes in policies, taking one by one citizen's rights, then human rights. Masses were brainwashed, mentally prepared or threaten to accept and justify annihilation of Jews, Gays, Gypsies, Communists, everyone who was against SS. Your comparison of taking away freedom of speech with the threat to human existence is completely opposite. As a Jew you have to see clear we are in the middle of Religious War which was imposed upon us by Islam and its army of immigrants. They are spreading all over he world, cynically abusing democratic values and destroying economies of the host countries. Jews don't grow horns, don't use children's blood for Matzah, they didn't write "Protocols of Zion". Nevertheless, there are so many who believe in these and other lies about Jews; and there are no regulatory mechanisms to protect us and potentially any other nation, religious or national minority against incitement to hatred. Those who think they were not permitted to post their message because it was rated as "hate speech" could improve their choice of words.
12. Great News!
James ,   UK   (01.26.13)
I guess they will now block any tweets seen as anti-Israel since anything anti-Israel is automatically deemed anti-Semitism. Israel is no longer allowed to be criticized by the people of France. Wonderful news!
13.  Proof French court not antisemitic
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.26.13)
May Israeli court proof that way that they are not antiharedi.

Rolf Raess ,   Switzerland   (01.27.13)
Also in Switzerland many newspapers, twitter and facebook are anti-jewish. I am against it as a honest swiss.
17. Not Clear from thsi WHO decides
Dan ,   K"S   (01.27.13)
It is not clear from this article who decides what is illegal. If the court decides, then Tweeter needs to hand over the information. If everyone can decides then, Tweeter can shut down now.
18. well done french court!
Daniel ,   Netherlands   (01.27.13)
Hitler or Stalin would have used Twitter, and Twitter would get only richer from the hatred

split ,   US   (01.27.13)
If you can't deal with the problem just point a finger, scream 'anti' and make them shut up - It won't work nor stop them from expressing their feelings but I'm sure it will backlash with more hate and resentment. Forcing people to snitch won't create friends either,...
21. To #7 Sarah B, Tel Aviv/London
doctor ,   USA   (01.27.13)
You are asking: 'Who is going to decide what we are and are not allowed to say?' If you are stupid enough not to be able to see the difference between Speech and Hate Speech, you are definitely not entitled to decide.
22. 21 - to see the difference between Speech and Hate Speech ,.
split ,   US   (01.28.13)
O'k pinhead show us where's there any distinction between a speech and so called 'hate speech' in US Constitution ? - Hit me !!! ,...
23. #21 Doctor
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (01.28.13)
So it begins, you have declared me stupid, so I am not allowed to decide who can speak and who cannot. Who made you the final arbitar, to decide what can and what cannot be said and who can say it? This is a dangerous road to travel down
24. This can't be the Sarah B. of Israel/USA ...
Edithann ,   USA   (01.28.13)
The one we've learned to love...this is a Sarah B. Tel Aviv/London...a Sarah B that just grew a brain... There are just too many Sarah B's Ynet can't tell the diffences and neither can we.... Hahahaha TATA
25. #24 You found true love, split
Cynthia ,   USA   (01.28.13)
Both of you hide behind a woman's name because you're embarrassed by your own posts. There's only one real Sarah B and you're afraid of her.
26. let them say what they want
Aaron ,   Ramat Gan   (01.28.13)
even if they don't post it to twitter they're still thinking it and saying it in real life this achieves nothing
