1. 4 in4 survivors of Armenian Genocide are denied by Israel
ben   (01.27.13)
Israel denies the Armenian Genocide
2. Shameful
Dovid ,   Haifa   (01.27.13)
take from the Haredi and aid we give to the so called Palestinians and help these HEROES!!!!
3. This is a critical issue and needs to be addressed - NOW!
Talula ,   Israel   (01.27.13)
For years and years and years we've been hearing that the government will take care of them - they've done nothing. Come on Yair - strut your stuff and help them out. I voted for you because I trust and believe in you.
4. With all due respect
Michael   (01.27.13)
to Holocaust survivors, I do not understand why they are any different from others in a similar position. I am 73, have an income of 2800 per month from NI and not one cent more from any other source. I am also lonely and I also have to calculate whether it should be heating or food. I did not come to Israel in the 70's, I have fought in four wars. I and others in my position should not be in a different category from Holocaust survivors, all should be treated equal and better. The level and quality of treatment and respect given to elders is a reflection on the quality of that society. Israel is lacking in this department.
5. this is sad...
nadav ,   tlv   (01.27.13)
i don't get how this is happening. Israel has universal health care, which is actually quite good. I don't think is (only) and issue of low funds, but rather bureaucracy . there are dozens of organizations that either help the elderly or both in Israel and abroad. Why can't they be put in touch with these few remaining holocaust survivors? Also, where are the kids and grand kids of these people? why are they abandoning their elderly?!
6. Where are the billions of holocaust..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.27.13)
money received from the Germans ? OUTRAGEOUS ! ! !
7. To ben 1#
Alex   (01.27.13)
I suggest that the Armenian State, still gloryfying Armenian Nazi-collaboraters from WW2, as "national war-heroes" also provide the Shoa-survivors with substantial amounts of funding - don´t you think that is a good deal?
8. Nadav
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.27.13)
health care does NOT pay for tooth care , for glasses . Shoa survivers benefit from a 60 % reduction on their participation for medication , but only those in the basket , and not all of them . Kids ? sometimes they don't even visit their parents who are in a home . Heard about it in a home abroad .
9. heating and the elderly
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (01.27.13)
Although the electric company gives a discount to seniors, the problem is that seniors are very sensitive to cold and therefore must use much more heating to stay warm. They are home more so more hours for the heater on, they need a higher temperature in the home, so more electricity needed to bring the heating to the comfort zone. If they do not heat according to their needs, which are higher than the average young person, they will easily catch cold or worse pneumonia It is a shame that the electric company does not take these factors also into account and give a larger discount as the age goes up. We need a government MK to do this. All in all, winter is a real disaster.
10. This is beyond disgraceful
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.27.13)
Perhaps we should worry less about the care and health of Arabs in Gaza and Judea and Samaria and more about the care and health of Jews in the State of Israel. Especially that of the survivors of the Holocaust. If Arabs need health care, they have 21 Arab countries from which to choose. Let them travel there. Sorry -- but in the Jewish State, Jews must come first. Anyone who does not care for such a policy is free to leave. They do, after all, have twenty-one choices. What choices do an aging, hungry, ill and poor Jewish Holocaust survivor -- you know, the ones that built the State of Israel -- have?
11. Larry , discount to seniors ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.27.13)
First time i hear of this .
12. Sarah B means...
Alex   (01.27.13)
...that there should be difference in a country between different citizens relating to heathcare and communal/state-sponsored services , based on religion and/or ethnical origins. Personally I am sure that you can´t find ONE SINGLE Shoah-surviver who would ever agree upon that...Anyhow, to accuse Sarah of being racist, bigot or prejudiced is of course either a grave insult or a sign of Antisemitism and should be punished. How OUTRAGEOUS we are !!!
13. of course is a shame but solutions???
michel ,   Ashkelon   (01.27.13)
I propose that each of the MK adopts at least one survivor.
14. stop the idiocy please
michel ,   Ashkelon   (01.27.13)
How can a governement give money to the palestinians when our fathers and granfathers are in such a situation?
15. Report: 1 in 4 holocaust survivors suffers poverty#10 ,#12.
Elsie. ,   Gush Halav.   (01.27.13)
#10 Sarah, how easy for you to say"they have 21 countries to go to" !! who on earth do you think you are?? my husband also helped build Israel and he is proud of it, his family has live here for hundreds of years, but being an Arab Israeli does'nt count, does it?? #12 Alex, great post.
16. Holocaust survivors
john ,   toronto   (01.27.13)
Priorities must be put in order of importance. They deserve more that just able to meet bare needs. It is shameful. The state must take care of its elderly specially those who have suffered such a great loss and those who have gone through the Holocaust.
17. Haredim can learn from Secular ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.27.13)
people how to win Nobel prizes, and Secular children can learn from Haredim how to care for their elderly.
18. The State can at least organize...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.27.13)
that elderly are brought every day to a warm center, and at night home ,care for warm bed covers .
19. # 15 Elsie
Michael #4   (01.27.13)
Yes it does count.
20. 1 in 4 Holocaust survivors suffers poverty
David ,   Montreal,Canada   (01.27.13)
It's a shame. With all the political and economical that the state of Israel is making through the Holocaust issue; this should not happen. These people who forge our identity deserve the respect and the love that we they deserve. It's a shame!
21. What has happened to the money paid by Germany
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (01.27.13)
to care for the Holocaust survivors? Corruption runs deep in Israeli society
22. Yet the Parasites are given twice as much money
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (01.27.13)
than Holocaust survivors to pretend to read a book 10 hours a day, WHERE IS THE MONEY GIVEN BY GERMANY TO CARE FOR THE HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS?
23. Ora , 17 & 18
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.27.13)
In the home in our birth town , some elderly didn't even receive visits from their children , and it were NOT all seculars . 18 : such centers exist , not gratis , but they receive food , can take a shower , and so on . My mother ZL said : wie men bed zich , asoi wet men schloefen .
24. Alex , 12
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.27.13)
This sarah is not a racist , at least not a little one .....
25. Right so Charles #24...
Alex   (01.27.13)
...she just utterly dislikes "Parasites" - and who doesn´t ? The question is how to define them...ehhrr...but that is another question :) At least (and I am stretching myself as far as possible) - she doesn´t blame the Arabs for being Haredim and spending their time in the Yeshivas according the present laws and regulations
26. 23 Charles,Your motherZL was right
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.27.13)
she said "WE" ,meaning " ourselves", but , Jews [i am sure ,you agree] don t judge people in misery, rather help them. Nice to hear that such centers exist. I don t miss any of your comments related to "antisemitism" Great.
27. To: No. 12
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.27.13)
Since when did Arab residents of Gaza and Judea and Samaria become citizens of Israel? Except, of course, for the ones residing in East Jerusalem when Jerusalem was unified -- those, that is, that accepted Israeli citizenship. Most preferred to retain their Jordanian citizenship. But Schehem? Hebron? You are too stupid for words, Alex. You really are no match for me. Best not even try.
28. Mixed Up Sarah #27
Alex   (01.27.13)
Sorry Sarah, but you can´t even dream of matching my Chutzpah. In your posting #10 you write: "Sorry -- but in the Jewish State, Jews must come first." - so how do you want to have it: Arabs in Samaria and Judea belong or do not belong to that Jewish State (regardless of identification card) - you can´t have it two ways you know, either Samaria and Judea is de facto a part of the Jewish State or not. If not, it is occupied territory....eh but OH NO - NOT IN Sarahs mind...so then it is one State? Either way (One state or Occupied Territory) - the wellbeing of the INHABITANTS is on the shoulders of the Ruling entity. Furthermore, whatever you might burst out in your venomous writings - the State of Israel, including the Government and the Health Ministry takes its decisions accordingly. Not Sarah B. Try your rhetoric with some confused "Evangelics" instead, I bet they will swallow every single of your words....
29. Ora 26
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.28.13)
Wie in in my Mother's ZL saying , meaned HOW . I don't judge people in cases i don't know .
30. #15, I believe Sara was talking about...
Ariella ,   Boston, MA   (07.17.13)
subsidies that Israel gives (i.e. electricity, water, etc) to non-Israelis - as she stated, to people living in the West Bank and Gaza. She was not talking about Israelis or Arab-Israelis. I completely agree that there should be no discrimination against Arab-Israelis, and I also agree that there is no reason to fund Israel's enemies who lie in wait just over the armistice line.
