He wants negotiations with Abbas, something his voters do not want and may find Netanyahu grant him by letting him be Minister for PA affairs. Lapid has refused the "lowly" education, housing and health (what his supporters want him to take and he might be able to handle) and may end up with FM, a job for which even his supporters admit he is not qualified, although there he would do less damage than in Defense or Finance. Tell me: was all this and 19 mandates worth just to get Peri a job as Internal Security Minister? Peron in politics?
