That barrier and wall was a personal project of East German Chancellor Walter Ulbricht.. . Mr. Ulbrict saw it as job security and the wall was built by East German soldiers who also guarded it.

After I wrote what I did about Germany a few minutes back, it needs to be said, there were some outstanding Germans who fought Hitler and the Nazis at the risk of their lives. Many gave their lives. I think of the White Rose for example. Unfortunately anti-Semitism was rife in Germany on the whole and in many instances it still is and throughout Europe. I see a good deal of anti-Semitism, disguised as anti-Zionism here in the U.S.

The majority of Germans are shameful of what was done during WWII and before. Being the cause of 50 Million people does not rest easy on most of this current generation. Some of my family have spent years there with the US military and attest to this. Just like in America we have a small and vocal group that hate everything. They don't speak for the majority.

As depressing as this article is, just yesterday on oneof the TV news shows they interviewed a young Christian German man who came to Israel to help holocaust survivors. I wish the decent people were as vocal as the haters. Seems it's always the haters who are opening their mouths and cramming both feet in.

In some areas of Germany, the US army is the most important employer. There would be an economic breakdown, if the US troops would go away - at least if the did it too fast.
