Dr. Gerstenfeld paints a sobering picture of the reality of these memorial assemblies. But the problem of inversion goes far beyond this. Alvin Rosenfeld's book The End of the Holocaust describes its distortion by Jews & non-Jews, mostly in the U.S.; Dr. Gerstenfeld presents the European perspective. If this is what memorials for the Shoah have become, it would be better if they would not take place and the truth would not be distorted.
