1. There is no point playing music...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.31.13)
when the public is deaf. Sadly most Secular Jews don t believe that Israel- despite the massa enemies who want her destruction- exists thanks to the IDF and thanks to Tora study too. Therefore ,in my opinion,Yeshivot should be sponsored by volunteers. Nobody got ever poorer because of donating to Yeshivot. Quite the opposite.G-D helps them to be able to go on giving. I know,i know, that sounds nonsense in the ears of Secular Jews. But let them make a survey. They won t believe their eyes. Moreover,Israel was spared the economic crisis that the States and Europa suffered , that ,thanks to the Yeshiva funding by the State.
2. I believe that all religious parties must be in the coalisio
Keren ,   IL-BR   (01.31.13)
That´s fundamental to Israel, but Haredi parties must change their focus. They must focus in all People of Israel and not only in their group. Shas and all other religious/pragmatic parties, like Ha Bait yehudi, should be united now and press Netanyahu for them to be in the coalision. These parties have a great strength together and should use their strength .They have more strength than Lapid and Netanyahu together, moreover now that Labor does not want to be at their side. Israel can not have a complete secular govern because this will be very bad. Netanyahu should embrace all :Ha Bait Ha Yehudi,Shas and the others religious parties.I hope he will. Netanyahu has the option now to make a great coalision for all Israel and I don´t think it will be good if he leaves religious aside, uniting his party practically only to Lapid and Kadima and Labor(which Ithink he will insist to have) . I hope he will not do so because, actually,Israel voted massively for a religious ,democratic and wealthy Israel and never for a leftist govern. Netanyahu has two roads in front of him now, and only two.I wish ,and really hope, that he will respect and follow the voice of all Israel.
3. There are approx 18 waking hours in a day ..
Michael Redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (02.01.13)
I personally think it's excellent that both Rabbis and students study Torah. But they have time to do other things too. Plenty of people study and work! Until quite recently, every important Rabbi that I can think of worked and studied and stressed the need to participate in the community. How come study now needs to be an all waking hours thing?
4. The Rambam worked!
Michael Redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (02.01.13)
In his mid-fifties, Maimonides was appointed as a personal physician by a royal courtier and then to Saladin, the sultan of Egypt and Syria. His new appointments and duties gave him financial stability and more, albeit still very limited time to devote to his writing.
5. Another option is to
Keren ,   IL-BR   (02.01.13)
...all religious and religious/pragmatic parties unite themselves in the opposition. They will be an huge strength and will be able to prevent Netanyahu to go freely to an American agenda. But Haredi must change their chart in order that such union functions , by cutting the part in which they accept delivering parts of Israel to enemies. Netanyahu will not be able to do anything against Israel with such an opposition.
6. #1 Ora, you're telling a lie!
Ze'ev   (02.01.13)
That Israel not suffered so hard from the economic crises is because the BUSINESS men did act wise! It has nothing to do with lazy haredim boys sitting in yeshivot all day instead of defending the land really or finding a job! But in one point I agree with you, cant believe it buts true, YES, the state should stop paying the haredim for doing nothing! Let the haredim work for thier lifes like everybody else! Great idea! And btw, I hope NON religious party will enter gouvernment this time! That would be really for the sake of Israel!
7. Depending on what kind of arrangements Netanyahu will make..
Keren ,   IL-BR   (02.01.13)
Benett could consider uniting his party to all religious parties and to Labor(yes,Labor),with the condition that Shelly Yachimovich freezes for the moment Labor ideas about settlements in Israel. Perhaps they can reach an accord in being in the opposition together,in case Netanyahu doesn´t bring them all to coalision. What I,vehemently, think is that Netanyahu can not be let alone only with Lapid because that will be bad.
8. #6 - you have to give to get ..
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (02.01.13)
Imagine standing on a garden hose that's under pressure and full of water. None comes out. When you release you foot, water doesn't just go out it comes in too. The above is simply the way life works. Please read my other posts here before jumping to any conclusions about where I'm coming from.
9. Torah
mr   (02.01.13)
All Torah that is not joined to a livelihood/the way of the Earth, in the end is nullified and leads to Gehinnom. Pirkei Avos. Simple. Putting thes men in the IDF, for a couple of years etc. will protect their Torah from hypocricy, insensitivity, frivolity. The Torah of Naval. Simple. Truth.
10. SHAS giving up patronage?
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD   (02.01.13)
This is unprecedented. SHAS has always been about getting a fair share for its community. To have give that up on a moral principle, i.e. resistance to military conscription, is radical. It could be in part motivated by the knowledge that they would be in an awkward position if a large part of the Ashkenzai hareidim openly resist, engage in civil disobedience, and possibly force a reexamination of the decision made in 1948 to ally with the zionists (as opposed to favoring a peaceful settlement with the Arabs knowing that would inevitably require a single, Islamic state replacing Israel).
11. NO to Shas
Israelit ,   Israel   (02.01.13)
Shas is the Whore of the political parties, led by a convicted crook. They are a bunch of money hungry, mysogenistic bigots. I support Bennett, because is honest, and will go a long way to help reconcile the religious/secular public.
12. 3 Michael,because the Secular...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.01.13)
have completely abandoned Tora study, the Haredim feel they have to fill the void.
13. Torah leaning all day is a chillul
Norbus ,   jERUSALEM   (02.01.13)
We learn Torah, to live by its tenets and hold on to a moral lifestyle. Most of those who learn now, consider that in itself is the Mitzvah.. That is wrong Etz Hayyim He, Le Mahzikim Ba, is to live Torah. Many Babylonians could not read or write, but lived Torah. Most real rabbinic leaders and teachers lived by a parallel profession. The Chillul is to learn Torah all day and ignore the world,, or worse to learn Torah to be artful how to get round the prohibitions , and even worse to learn and pretend , but break its basic laws as we hear haredim commit heinous crimes
14. Convince the rest of Isarel, not Lapid
Naomi   (02.01.13)
Those of us who served in IDF and work, send our sons and daughters to battlefront to defend our country, have ENOUGH of this attitude of the haredim who duck IDF service and who are not working to support their families. Read the real Torah and understand that G-d said man work 6 days and rest on Shabbat! Even Abraham and Noah worked. Even G-d worked those 6 days and rested!! If you cannot serve your community, then do not stay here and take from us.
15. #12 , Ora
Moshe Edri ,   Tiberias, Israel   (02.01.13)
Study in your spare time, its your choice to believe in what you believe at your own expense, not mine. EVERYBODY MUST WORK AND SERVE IN THE ARMY. Times have changed and you will have no choice other to accept it.
16. #1 take responsibility
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (02.01.13)
There were always two types of secular Israelis: the ones you call deaf and the ones ready to listen. In 1992 the Haredim made their choice: help the "deaf" throw the other ones under the bus. Your leaders supported the Oslo Accords in exchange for money. We saw what happened: dead, wounded, hatred for rabbis and Torah, desecrated graves, burnt synagogues, housing shortage.
17. #15 Moshe: Well said! Serve now - pray later!
David ,   Israel   (02.01.13)
Shas, Yishai, wake up and smell the coffee! You have 11 mandates. You have no power and your leeching off the state days are over! The biggest rift in the nation is religious coercion by Shas and the other Ultra-Orthodox religious fanatics. You demand tolerance of your ways but you are not prepared to be tolerant to others! Most of all you are not prepared to protect the country that supports you, feeds you and protects YOU! Praying will not stop Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, Iran and the rest of the Muslim world from destroying our country and killing us all! Israel is the home of the Jewish people and created by Zionists against the will of the Arabs AND the Ultra-Orthodox. Never forget that the Secular Zionists stopped you from wandering in the wilderness when the Moroccans threw you out!
18. In the Torah there were soldiers
Adi ,   Switzerland   (02.01.13)
In the Torah there were soldiers
19. how about giving up both ??
jack bauer   (02.01.13)
its time the weak little sheep learn how to defend their families and communities effectively. They can pray all they want in the foxhole when the wolves come for them. But that all depends on the leaders and the commanders in the IDF growing some testicular fortitude.
20. Yeshivot
Edouard ,   Montreal canada   (02.03.13)
Close all yeshivots of ultra orthodox that are not 100% Zionist Keep open the yeshivots of modern Jews No yeshiva student should be getting any funds unless he is ready to serve his country Being religious IS NOT A PROFESION It's a choice The public funds should not be spend to ANY religious institutions We have 100 of thousand of this useless parasites guys that are sucking dry israel
