1. Republicans Missed Point
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (02.03.13)
The Republicans thought that Hagel was up for the Secretary of Israel Affairs, not Secretary of Defense. Not one Republican asked a single question about something pertinent to the SecDef job. Only Democrats asked any of those questions. Not one Republican seemed interested in lay-offs starting March 1, including soldiers in combat.
2. Antisemites
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (02.03.13)
who try to hide their real feelings prefer to use the word " Israel," instead "jew".
3. USA Running away from Afghanistan
norbus ,   Jerusalem   (02.03.13)
So what is point of discussion? Layoffs, are due to Obama being anti war and wish to dumb down America; God Curse America is his Mentor Jeremiah Wrights cry Israel is at Vanguard fighting the terror brought by Obama's policy in Middle East. Arab Spring, my Tush! And Hilary Clinton, she is leaving the world a safer place, HEHEHE
4. For Lewston party affiliation is more important than US.
Miron ,   USA   (02.03.13)
Being nominated by Barak Obama sends Democratic party of today into a hypnotic state where all they can do is silently remain still, like a cabbit hypnotized by a python prior being swalloed for a merry digestion. Only Republican Mc Cain asked Chuck Hagel whether his thought that Iraq surge, which delivered material results, was correct or wrong. Hagel denied answering question. If the man can't talk about what his thoughts worth in the past how can anyone argue for the man to take the post now? It's not like anyone wanted him to say "I love Bush". The question was whether his position was wrong or correct. And he clearly was unable to come to terms with both, his position, and need to present his position to the body of elected representatives of our nation. A very difficult position for anyone coming to an interview for a job in US.
5. To 3 - Thanks for Belly Laugh
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (02.03.13)
The layoffs were made law by the Great Compromise of 2011 when Republicans agreed not to have the US default. Including troops was their idea. The Arab spring was started by a Tunisian merchant tired of bribery demands. The US has been a spectator - we don't run the world.
6. 5* To continue the Hilarity
norbus ,   Jerusalem   (02.03.13)
It is simplistic to look at effect and ignore the cause Obama wants to thug it out and show his macho bigger than the GOPs . I expect he will fall on his face in the end and whimper. Where his his implied manifesto ? he is about vengeance against half the nation ; this shows what an immature selfish fraud he is
7. 1 he is not qualified to be secretary of defence
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.03.13)
obama picked him because he mirrors exactly obama's policies, which is not surprising since hagel has been advising obama for the last four years. hagel is an antisemite, a jew hater, and even anti-american, agreeing with al jazeera reporter that america is a bully. most problematic is hagel's obvious lack of competence and intelligence.
8. Hagel was asked about Iran
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.03.13)
he answered that he supports obama's policy of containment. he had to be handed a note to correct this statement since obama has always stated that he will not permit iran to acquire nuclear weapons. either hagel was not aware of the president's policy, or else obama has been lying for the last four years. in either case, it is a complete embarrassment which seriously damages us security interests.
9. Hagel was asked questions about the so-called "Jewish Lobby"
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.03.13)
no nominee for a cabinet position has shown such outright antisemtism as hagel when he talked about the so-called "jewish lobby" intimidating congress and forcing senators to make stupid mistakes. when he was asked which senators were intimitated into making stupid mistakes, he could not name one.
10. Hagel refused to designate the IRGC as terrorists
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.03.13)
hagel's refusal to designate the irgc as a terrorist organisation puts him clearly outside the mainstream of us national security establishment and even outside european national security establishment.
11. Hagel destroyed himself easily...
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (02.03.13)
His answers were pathetic. Not one straight yes or no just a lot of politic-eze and avoidance by mumbo jumbo. Probably 'approved' by democrats who'd pass anything....
12. # 5 Mark Really Mark?
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (02.03.13)
obama helped to rid Egypt's Mubarak on behalf of our enemy, the "Muslim Brotherhood". Now, the Egyptian people are hungry and led by radical Muslims terrorists.. How do you square that Mark with your comment "we don't run the world" ? Just selected parts of it, like Egypt? Israel isn't having that any longer, and Egypt??? The Arab Spring, Syria, all prove change is a coming.... And, we don't run the world and sadly, obama has a mess right here at home without interfering in others affairs.
13. Embarrassing for both obama and hagel two dummies.
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (02.03.13)
14. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.04.13)
What's the matter? Afraid your daughter might lose her job because of Pentagon cutbacks? Well, you voted for the person in the White House who said that that is precisely what he would do. So, what's your problem when he acts on his campaign promise? Israel, in the event you haven't noticed, is in the middle of the current most dangerous conflagration in the world, and is the only country that has done something to curb the danger. Truth be told, it matters little to Israel who happens to be the Secretary of Defense. It's not exactly as if the person holding the position can deter Israel from doing what Israel considers it necessary to do. It just makes it easier to work with someone who does not have blinders on when it comes to the Middle East. And questioning Hagel on his opinions concerning Israel and Iran is an essential part of the process. If your daughter loses her cushy no-work job as a do-nothing member of the United States armed forces, well -- start tidying up her room. She's coming home.
15. The attack by "israel-first' senators was under the directio
American Vet   (02.04.13)
direction of the so-called "jewish lobby" Chuck Hagel persecuted because he was not an israel senator, but an American senator.
