1. This is absurd
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.06.13)
You can bend over backward only so far before you snap in two. I am wondering if the United States would investigate civilian deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq. Such an investigation would take the United States into the middle of the next century -- over one million civilian deaths in each country. Stop. We all know that if the terrorist elements in Gaza hadn't launched missile attacks against Israeli civilians, there would have been no need for Israel to respond. That's where the fault lies -- with ersatz "Palestinian" terrorists. There is no need for independent fact-finding and useless committees. If civilians died in Gaza, it is because their own leadership uses them as human shields. End of story.
2. Hmm ,...

So, out of 352* children killed Operation Cast Lead only 70 were civilians? Just curious ;) ,... *List of children casualties @ Defence for Children International
3. This is Crazy
Bill Stein ,   USA   (02.06.13)
This is nuts when you over guess your actions you demoralize soldiers and invite international inquiry. Who is the idiot that came up with this stupid idea?
4. Israel probes to minimize civilian deaths
Jerome ,   Basalt, Colorado   (02.06.13)
Arabs try to maximize civilians murders and the useless nations continues to condemn Israel for protecting itself. Crazy frick'n world!

352 children ??!!! i dont understand what do u mean ???
7. @ #2 this is Op POD no Cast Lead! Split open a book
brad ,   israel   (02.06.13)
This is article is regarding civilian deaths during pillar of defense not cast lead. I think the way the hamas hides under the skirts of their citizens and fires missles from peoples homes. 70 suspected civilian deaths is pretty darn good. Why not build some bomb shelters instead of buying massive piles of weapons? We all know you are pretty good at building tunnels.
8. Military Advocate General needs to go back to basic training
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.06.13)
he needs to learn that in every war, without exception, there are civilian casualties. the only time an enquiry is warranted is when civilians were intentionally, wantonly and without any military purpose, were killed. examples of such killings, would be the raising of villages for retaliation, the taking of hostages and their killing. collateral damage in the course of warfare, however unfortunate, is part of warfare.
9. #2 - And where did THEY get the numbers from?
William ,   Israel   (02.06.13)
Mostly like the UN, which took the numbers from B'tselem. However, those numbers have been debunked by a Hamas admission of casualty numbers which placed civilian deaths around 300, which means the actual children's deaths (those that were actual civilians, and not those given weapons to fight with while Hamas leadership hide-out in a hospital basement) are much lower than you quoted. Tell a lie long enough, Split....
10. #3 Still mad that you couldn't make the minimum
A ,   Belgium   (02.06.13)
entrance requirement to "Blood and Honor" of 45 IQ? Split have no brains, right? ;)
11. What an incredible waste of time and effort
A ,   Belgium   (02.06.13)
Simple math: no rockets from gaza= no need for ridiculous inquiries. Maybe even Split can figure that out...maybe.
12. WHY..WHY?
les ,   canada   (02.06.13)
do the idf investigate? hamas started the war by pummeling Israeli civilians with thousands of rockets for years. if anything, the idf should investigate the deaths if Israelis killed in the war and punish the culprits accordingly.
13. This must be just theatrics per the new Commission finding
William ,   Israel   (02.06.13)
because during Pillar of Defense, the IDF JAG was briefed on every operation and its validity under intl law, and was purposely documented by video in order to be used in defense against lawfare. I expect no violations of intl law here, but perhaps a civilian law violation when wrong intelligence resulted in a tragic mistake. But that's not considered a war crime, at all.

When are you going to realize that anything claimed by Muslims is subject to verification? Muslims have a record of mixing facts with fiction in all their claims regarding, historical facts, scientific discoveries, inventions etc etc etc
15. I have a better idea
Arnold ,   Canada   (02.06.13)
All Israeli Jews should leave Israel and migrate to any other city or country that will have them. Thus allowing the Palestinians to take over Israel completely. No more wars . No more investigations ad nauseum.
16. US Senate and Congress voted to permit us to defend ourselv
Martin ,   sa   (02.06.13)
US Senate and Congress voted to permit us to defend ourselves from the onslaught of rockets (1600approx). Many other Western nations supported right to respond. Further-more we agreed the Pillar Defence option with Obama. We were fully justified to attack from the and if we chose a ground attack. It amazes me that a specific case is exposed to the public without guidelines for justifying our defence Y-net news how do you justify not preparing the public for this debate? Please look at your editorial and journalistic standards. This hamas war moved to a new level of intensity and threat on a substantial part of our population. The IAF sends leaflets warning of pending attacks. What more are we to do. What do we do with human shielding when arsenals are stored in civilian surroundings? What restraint are we required to show when more than two million of our civilians including arab civilans are threatened? I hope we are able to motivate each case in general and on its own without the gazans digging up unproven trash.

well, you are completely mistaken, the land of Israel which lies between the sea and the river, belongs to the jewish people, according to the Bible, when God promised the forefathers of the jewish people Abraham, Issac and Jacob that this land will be given to their offsprings forever, the jews were living in this land for more than 3500 years, they were subjected to exiles, pogroms, massacres but they still flourish, they returned again to their land and re- establoshed their state again the state of Israel with Jerusalem as its capital, the jews also ve the right to live and have their national homeland in this land according to the international law, in 1923 the league of nations approved that the british mandate of palestine will be the national home of the jewish people and that the international community is obligated to help the jews to settle in the land !!!! even the arabs didnt oppose that in the beginning, Emir Faisul agreed that the homeland of the jews to be established on 22 percent of the Palestine means Israel+West Bank+Gaza+Golan and Jeruslam that happened in the paris conference of peace in 1919 !!!!, in 1922 the arabs agreed in Cairo that the rest of the mandate of Palestine be established as Transjordan, means that they gave up on the rest , also according to the Geneva accord article 4, and to the UN charter 80, so it is the PA state is the illegal !!! shalom

21. Compare statistics
David ,   Israel   (02.06.13)
As former Commander of British Forces in Afghanistan, Richard Kemp said to the UN "Israel has done more then any other country in the history of warfare to preserve human life" If you compare statistics of the US in Iraq or Afghanistan, Russia in Chechnya, Georgia, Afghanistan. Bosnia to the Falklands, Vietnam to Korean war, the ratio of civilian to combatant deaths are far outnumbering. I have never heard of any other country that calls civilian houses and drops flyers warning people to evacuate their homes prior to a targeted bombing. So to all of you bias folks out there do the correct research before bashing Israel
22. I commend the decision
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (02.06.13)
Even if the civilian deaths are a result of the Hamas tactic of using human shields I commend the IDF for looking into their deaths. I am always saddened by the news and images of innocents killed and if the IDF can minimize casualties when defending Israel the better.
23. Continuation of an established policy: IDF can do no wrong
Jim USA   (02.06.13)
when murdering unarmed Arab civilinas. IDF officers firing 20 rounds into a 11 year old girl. IDF ordering an extended family into a building, then bombing is. 23 dead.

Why don't you leave your home and let some homeless live there and you pay for it. You can live in your car. Problem solved for the homeless you gave your home to.
27. # 15...That's one way..but the better part is
Edithann ,   USA   (02.08.13)
Israel 'PAY' for what they've stolen...go back to the '48 agreements...and stay in their shtetle all walled in...That's miy idea..but it would be up the Palestinians..after all, all those Jews were Europen Jews who stole their land...The Jews who were in Palestine were Jews European Jews never heard of.. What's so bad about Palestinians taking over their own country ? ...They wouldn't be taking over Israel....There never was an Israel until '48...get it stupid!!!? TATA
