I have read all above posts and feel surprised that nobody mentioned the real heroes, creators of the current situation on Israeli side of the story. What about our great diplomatic genius Livni, who signed the UN declaration strictly forbidding Hesballah to have any stocks of missiles? With leaders like this we should be doomed, the Helm sage attitudes may have been tolerable in old Poland, but are harbingers of total catastrophe in the bloody jungles of Middle East. Next war in Lebanon - thanks to all the above mentioned strategyists - will have to be very bloody. But a clear lesson has to be drawn out of it - never feed the crocodile hoping it comes to our senses. It can't.

Before Israel established even one settlement the Lebanese along with 5 other Arab armies attacked Israel. May 15 1948. The fighting ended in 1949 with the establishment of the "green line" From 1949 till 1967 there were no settlements yet the same five Arab armies all built up their armies for attack in June of 1967. So settlements never had anything to do with Arab assault on Israel. Yes today they all yell settlements because settlements are established . But not in 1948 when all this warring was started by Lebanon and the other 5 arab armies. Read history before you make a fool of yourself.

If Hezbollah fighters can intervene in Syria, why can't Sunni Syrian fighters destroy Hezbollah depots in Lebanon? Turnabout is fair play. Softening Hezbollah for the next round would be useful.

The harsh reality that the air force leaders ignore is that bombing people just makes them more determined. No bombardment in history has ever got the opponent to surrender (the Nazi assault on ST Petersburg is a fine example). Add in the advanced anti-aircraft weapons Hezbollah has and the AF guy are really being delusional. This is also why a bomber only attack on Iran will fail. The ONLY way to change the behavior of your opponent is to forcibly take their land and subdue the people which means lots of dead Israeli soldier on the ground.

The globe is awash in weapons equal to anything Israel will ever have. Israel has no "magic" weapons. The Lebanese have learned that Israel will be ruthless, so they will respond in kind and hope to be even more ruthless. Since both side can devastate the other side equally, maybe it is time for Israel to try something it has never tried before - get along with its neighbors. The bully has lost his power.

We always hear about hezbollah's 65000 missiles. the question is, do they have the soldiers and the launchers to launch a significant number in a short period of time. i always hear they only have 10 to 20 thousand soldiers. that doesnt seem like sufficiant numbers to launch that many missiles. only a small percentage can be trained missile launchers.

A U.S. first strike on Iran will almost certainly bring a Hizbollah attack on Israel. Therefore it is essential that the U.S. and Israel be fully coordinated, and that when the U.S.hits Iran Israel will simultaneously strike Hizbollah.
