Thank God it was Israeli archaeologists who unearthed these treasures. Good for them to be exhibited in a museum operated by Israel. I have seen the Egyptian National Museum and most of the temples along the Nile and found the quality of maintenance and displays abhorrently unprofessional.
2. "Palestinians" must go.
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.22.13)
Israel must make it clear there will NEVER be a new "Palestinian" state on the sole tiny Homeland of the Jewish people. No more games with "Palestinian" poseurs. Israel's policy should be to end all support for Fictional Palestine (no more food, electricity, water, money etc.), while offering "Palestinians" money for one purpose only. To permanently leave our land.
3. The so called Palis would have to steal quite a lot of arti-
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.22.13)
facts in order to fabricate their "past". As for reality: they have neither past, present nor future of any kind: as befitting any invented entity. We must let the Arab penchant for both lying & whining at the same time come to the surface one more time.... Oy!
4. herod the baby killer????
ME ,   USA   (02.22.13)
Was/is HE really all that "GREAT" to you israelis, a murderer of children. What a bunch of BS.
5. Return to the site? -Unwise
Shalom ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.22.13)
"The relics, he said, would eventually be returned to Herodium once proper facilities to house them were in place. " If that is done and the Palestinians get their hands on them... remember how they have destroyed traces of the Jewish presence on the Temple Mount. They claim that there was never a Jewish temple there, so they will presumably want to destroy all evidence about Herod, the temple builder, as well. Nobody thinks of returning the Dead Sea Scrolls to the caves, so why not keep these relics, too, in safety at the Israel Museum?
6. The Palestinians are mad...
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (02.22.13)
That they can't take this historical figure and turn him onto a "Palestinian", the way they tried to turn Jesus, Moses and even Abraham into Palestinans.
7. Nationalistic driven pseudo-science
Mary   (02.22.13)
International scholarship in and outside israel is well awarethat the so called archeolog of the state of Israel is driven by militaristic and nationalistic motives: Jigael Yadin was an officer of the IDF who put his gun aside to start excavations. E. Netzer was his devoted student. All to many activities by Israeli archeologists are motivated by nationalistic emotions and were eager to destroy non-Jewish heritage of thousands of years and to restore heritage which could be linked to Judaism. Today even the murder and paranoid killer Herod is part of this heritage, at least some truth in it.
8. Palestians should be allowed to dig anywhere in Palestine.
Robert USA   (02.22.13)
the european-jews are invaders & occupiers.
9. Herod was an Arab
observer ,   Egypt   (02.22.13)
Masada was built by King Herod who was an Arab, on the paternal and maternal sides, massacred the Jewish male boys to keep his dominance over the Jews. Jews never recognized Herod's Jewishness even he was religious Torah observant, but a convert who built the second temple and observed Jewish feasts.

13. Among Jews he was known for...
Aaron Kuperman ,   Baltimore, MD   (02.22.13)
Sexual perversions - Being antagonistic to the Hareidi rabbanim (albeit no draft, he prefered loyal professionals) - Opposing the idea of using Jewish law in Israel ---- no wonder the hilonim refer to him as "the Great"

15. Dispute
Syd Chadenp ,   Palermo Calif USA   (02.22.13)
Interesting that the Palestinians say that they own the relics of the former ruler of Israel, which they claim never existed.
16. Arabs value pre-Islamic antiquities?
Cameron ,   USA   (02.22.13)
17. Palestinian claims miss an essential point
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.22.13)
Archeological relics and artifacts more often than not reflect peoples that are themselves relics of history, as they are no more. Thus the only ones that can claim them are those having sovereignty where they were found. The Phoenicians are gone, for example, so Lebanon has claim to them. The Aztecs are gone, so Mexico has claims that trump any others. But the Judeans (Jews) are still around, and thus (should) have first claims on the artifacts of their ancestors, whether found within pre-1967 Israel or the territories. If any Arab was found within ancient Judea in the time of Herod he was likely just a trader or nomad passing through.
18. Robert @8, many forget it, but Jews are Palestinians too.

20. #8, The Arabs have dug plenty, robbers
Israeli grandma   (02.24.13)
Ancient tombs and Hebrew sites have been pillaged for years by the local Arabs, and much historical record disturbed. Just look what they are doing to the ancient sites in Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq etc. as well, same story, same destruction of scientific evidence.
21. What doesn't anger the Palestinians?

solomon ,   bklyn   (02.25.13)
"Palestinians" are not Nabateans, the ones who build Petra. Neither are they Babylonians or Chaldeans. They came with the Musiim Conquest, and for years insisted that they are not Palestinian, but Egyptians, Syrians, etc. They started calling themselves "Palestinian" in the 1960's, as a political construct to fight Israel, and have admitted as much. Up until the late 1940's if you said Palestinian, you meant the Jews. Reading some history may help you not sound so stupid.
24. #22 antony - thank you for a most relevant post
