Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.27.13)
What this rabbi wrote is wrong , only weak people , or in need , can become "believers" . Many , if not most , of the today's "believers" act in this way because they were brainwashed from childhood by their father , education , environnement . Most of them are afraid to leave , afraid to be rejected by their family . And those who leave are indeed sometime rejected .
62. # 52 ORAH.Are you questioning the
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.27.13)
validity of the article ?.the article is based on a report,if i am not mistaken,a haredy news paper, called,Hamvaser, didn't the rebbe of vhisjnits also made a similar statement concerning serving in the I.D.F.why is it,unlike haredim,Protestants, catholics, are not afraid to send their children to colleges, and to serve in the Army,i believe, many young haredim would like to serve in the Army, and get a secular education, but are held back by their rebbes and politicians, who don't want to lose power and money, this time new winds are blowing in Israel which will bring in fresh air into the haredy camp.
63. The Rebbe on Sharing the Burden
MR ,   NJ,USA   (02.27.13)
The Torah which the rebbe claims to represent: Shemot 23:5 If you see the ass of him that hates you lying under its burden, you shall not pass by him; you shall surely release it with him. -That is, even with your enemy you must share the burden. The rebbe blames the secular for all of his troubles and makes them responsible for the whole thing. Worse than Torah demands for your enemy.

Thanks for your wishes for a good health , but in the same time you "red mir an dan krenk" , That's not a good wish , the opposite .
65. What does it mean Jewish state????
Yoni the Jew ,   Jewish homeland   (02.27.13)
Clearly nobody on these talkbacks has thought through the main issue at hand. All i saw so far was hatred and ignorance of the rebbes stance. This stance is the same stance of the entire charedi world so it is important to think it through. The Q. is does God protect us in Israel so long as we do His will or do we protect ourselves? Do we live in Israel just the same as anywhere else or are there special rules that pertain to the Jews in Israel that are above the regular laws of nature ? Obviously if you don't believe in God you will think this stance is crazy or "magic" or whatever. The truth is that God protects us if we do His will and He runs the world. Think about it ...

Yoni ,   Lev Haaretz   (02.27.13)
Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I grew up as a TOTALLY non-religious Jew in New York, who's seen (and unfortunately) done it all! So, Michael, there's still hope -- don't give up! And Charles, well, as the song goes: "I've looked at life from both sides now", and have chosen LIFE!
67. 62 J.K. I am not questioning ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.27.13)
the validity of the article. But a Rabbi is much more than some words he said ,taken out of context. The wheel is turning. Some Haredim will join the modern world, while in the same time secular young people, thirsty for spirituality become "Baale Teshuva" The genuine great Rabbis are concerned about the wellbeing of Jews and not about their power over them.In their eyes, being powerful,is being able to control themself.
68. ORA
Mordechai ,   Beit Shemesh   (02.27.13)
It is about time you put a sock in it and stopped with all the rubbish you continuously rant. You don't take note of what people write as to do so will call into question your belief and you cannot contend with that. leaps of faith are all baloney and are for the sheep who follow in fear of what may happen to them, Religion is a drug that is more addictive than heroin and when understood purely a means to exercise power over other individuals. all religious leaders are purely exploiting for their own well being, it gives them an income and security, they are magicians exploiting their fellow man, just as you try to consistently to impose your beliefs on others. Let us be Israelis, you want to be religious do so for yourself in your own home and keep it there! missionaries like your self are a curse on the world!

73. Shock Troops
Zechariah   (02.28.13)
King David was a Warrior and the Book of Judges is full of Religious Warriors. In Poland the Haredim ought to have formed Shock Troops with anti tank guns through the Black Market to Smash Nazi Panzer Formations and raised money for the Polish Airforce to get Spit Fires .French Tanks wwere on the Buy.Anyway there will be Exemptions .

Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.28.13)
I do not agree with Ora , but to call her a "curse" as you did is much too much . Giving "names" defines your own . Secondly , "missionaries" can only influence weak people , or those who are in need of something to direct their life .

76. 74 Charles, Thanks for defending...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.28.13)
so well, not only Jews in antisemitic media ,but also somebody , whose life style, you totally disapprove. You are not an average guy,Charles.
77. 75 Charles, I don t think you could ..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.28.13)
convince many of these people to quit their life style, for paradise on earth, even they could take with them family and friends.
78. Ora
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.28.13)
I don't disapprove your lifestyle , you are free to live the way you want . What i , at least , dislike is that religious try to impose their lifestyle on us . And don't tell us that we impose our lifestyle on you , you have NOT to take a bus shabbat , but we want them . You have not to listen to "mizmor shir leshabbat" on the radio , but we have to hear "kryiat shema" every morning just before the news of 6 oclock [ or to miss the beginning of the news ...]
79. 78 Charles,I am perplexed that...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.28.13)
listening to "Shema" every morning disturbs you to the point to complain to me. Live and let live. May many others get a friend like you. Why should only i have to suffer?
80. Ora
charles ,   Petachy Tikva   (03.01.13)
I don't complain to you , but to the religious imposing their religion . You are not guilty of this as it was done long before you made Alya , so , please don't suffer . Sorry if i hurt you . I'm not interested to "convert" religious in seculars , they have to do it by themselve . I know very well a couple who did it , without any external influence . His parents didn't even attend their grandson's barmitzwa ! שבת שלום
81. 80 Charles It is not religion s fault..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.03.13)
that the grand-parents did not apply: "Veahavta at Reeha" The grand-son should not reject religion because of his grand-parents behaviour. I don t feel guilty . Both societies are trying to impose their ideas on the other. Bid mistake. It is only by giving a good example that you can influence others. If everything was perfect in the secular society, there would be" Has Vehalila" many more yordim .And vise versa "Alevai" Shavua Tov,Charles.
82. Ora , there is a difference
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.03.13)
between "imposing" [ as you call it ] ideas , and imposing lifestyle as the religious try to , and effectively , do . We don't impose you to take a bus on Shabbat , but you impose us to go with "tram 11" [ as we said ..], to walk . Sadly there are not more who leave religion , they are afraid to do it , they don't know what it means to LIVE a true FREE life . Have a great week , Ora
83. 82 Charles One who knows what ..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.03.13)
it is to LIVE a true LOVING life is not interested in what you call a true free life. People who have a goal in life have self imposed rules. Without goal, life is a FREE schlepp. This doesn t apply to you since you have an interesting hobby and by defending us so well in the foreign media you are contributing a lot to our people. I am quite sure you have self discipline. Thus not so FREE. As long we have free choice we are free. It is easier for religious people to become secular than the opposite. A secular who decides to become religious must have an utterly strong will to change his lifestyle. Among the sane people it is only an elite who succeeds to give up the many pleasures he are used to . In life you have nothing for nothing. Living in harmony with our precious Jewish soul is priceless. We do not live to survive ,but enjoy life filled with love and joy,and have peace of mind and restful nights. Who says better?
84. Ora , a goal in life ? Try # 4
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.04.13)
Is "olam haba" your goal ? Something that nobody has seen , something inexisting . So , sane people prefer something TRUE , not tales . Sane people will not become religious , or then because of their environnement . Do you think that we don't know what a loving life is ? Do you think that we don't have "self imposed rules" ? For religious to become secular means , very often , been rejected from family and friends [ ve'ahavta et re'echa ??? ] while a secular who becomes religious will not be rejected . A secular who becomes religious is someone in "need" or a very weak who can be convinced . And your "rules" even don't allow you to meet someone at a book fair . You again lost .
85. 84 Charles TRY2 The Rebbe is right.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.04.13)
You are the proof,by disputing with me for no reason. Because i went to the book fair and i saw a charming guy with plenty of white hairs, wearing jeans ,sitting on a banc, surrounded by lovely grand-children. It could have been you. May my secular digital friend go on growing old and stay young until at least his 120th birthday.
86. Ora
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.05.13)
I'm not "disputing" with you , but with the charedi people in general . I react to them by answering you . I have seen many people at the book fair , but didn't speak to them either . Why didn't you ask this "charming guy" if he was Charles ? It must have been me , there are not many "charming guys" here [ dikkenek ] LOL .
87. 86 Charles.I don t think the rebbe...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.05.13)
would be pleased, but i was tempted to talk to this charming guy. Are you serious .... it was you?
88. 86 Charles,TRY 2 Why i didn t ask?...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.05.13)
Because that is what i was supposed to do as a Haredi woman.
