they (Palis) would have achieved that a long time ago.
2. Only in Israel ?
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (02.20.13)
Hungary is a member state of EU. Here live 1 million gypsies. They are real pariah of hungarian society. Totally hopeless for a gypsy to find a job. They are rejected, when their skin's colour is seen. What is this if not apartheid. But I never heard a word about it in the international media.
3. Kasim i salute you
Viroman ,   London, England   (02.20.13)
for seeking the truth and standing up for what you believe in, i cant imagine the pain and problems your journey has caused you with your family and community but you're an inspiration - thank you. This article hits the nail on the head and is the precise reason i sometimes loose faith in humanity. The obsession with Israel and example you have outlined make me sick to the stomach, i am awlays asking WHY myself. Its unbelievable the amount of middle class folk who have no connection to the conflict yet devote their life to anti-israel activity - If you follow the Biritsh left (BBC, Guardian etc) Israel is the prime source of the worlds problems.
4. People, obsessed with the destruction of Israel
tiki ,   belgium   (02.20.13)
Like once, when they were obsessed with the destruction of Jews. Like once?
5. Singling out Israel
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (02.20.13)
Actually, in its behavior, Israel probably is no worse than many other nations; indeed, it has shown restraint where others have not. It is singled out for BDS because unlike other nations, rogue though some may be, Israel's existence is historically and especially theologically illegitimate. That's it, plainly stated. And Kasim Hafeez betrays his ancestors, nation, and heritage in writing and publishing articles such as this one. Justice will be meted out to him one day.
6. #2 - They are rejected, when their skin's colour is seen ,..
split ,   US   (02.20.13)
Crap !!! They're rejected because of their lifestyle and conduct as a part of society not because of their skin color ,...

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.20.13)
"Israel's existence is historically and especially theologically illegitimate" Israel's existence is a historical fact. Facts are always legitimate. As to the "theological" portion of your comment -- hate to break it to you, but G-d does not need a son. To suggest such a thing is to dilute the very concept of monotheism. The notion of a god coming to earth and impregnating a mortal woman comes straight out of Greek and Roman mythology, and was written in to Christianity in order to make it more palatable to people whose belief system included a pantheon of gods, many of whom every now and again impregnated mortal women. The Jews reject false Messiahs. When the true Messiah comes -- his appearance will be apparent to all. Your "faith" had to invent a "second coming." The first one failed so dismally.
8. If three people tell you that you are drunk...
Zeev, Haifa   (02.20.13)
There is a Yiddish proverb, thus: If three people tell you that you are drunk,- then go home and sleep it off...

Did you think that by opening your post with a neutral tone towards Israel that we Jews would let the rest of your post slide by without comment. Where do you come up with line that Israel's existence is historically and theologically illegitimate ? How often do you like to make up your own version of history ? In reference to Kasim Hafeez thank goodness there are people like him that are open and analytical in life.

14. Excellent article. The answer is....
William ,   Israel   (02.21.13)
it is easier and more lucrative to attack Israel than to deal with real issues in the world. Activists and NGO subsist on donations and grants which usually come from govts and individuals with certain biased agendas. They're simply following the money, rather than their conscious. And to protest an Israeli Theater Group is easy. They won't be harmed in the protest no matter how violent they themselves become, they won't be the target of retribution by Jews in the future, and it gains them points from like-minded individuals. As a group of foreign protesters in Israel stated in an interview - they travel to Israel to protest for the "Palestinians" because its basically safe to do so and shortly thereafter they can be in Tel Aviv enjoying a beer on the beach. It's "camp" for the young activist. When asked if they'd travel to Syria or Iraq to protest they emphatically stated no because they could get serious hurt or killed there. The Tibetans didn't suddenly gain their independence nor did the Chinese stop their systematic efforts at cultural genocide on the Tibetan Plateau. But the activists decided to give up on them in the 1990s, and take an easier, more lucrative path that ensures plenty of financial and political support, in lieu of aiding real people in desperate need today.

"Genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid." These terms are not to be taken literally. They are boilerplate 101 for Israel haters everywhere.
18. Why is Israel Targetted
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (02.21.13)
Human Rights complaints against Israel are the Human Rights organizations' rationale for ignoring the blatant abuse of human rights in the Muslim countries. They pander to Muslim countries, who are able to point out that it is Israel that has been criticized, not them.
19. This anti-Israel obsession is antisemitism.
bob k ,   orlando usa   (02.21.13)
Sure Israelis criticise Israel regularly but they have a stake in the country and serve in the IDF they don't want Israel destroyed. On the Left they just want to give the Arabs everything and hope for the best - they don't want to die in the process. For the enemies of Israel, other real atrocities are either downplayed or ignored or as with Syria, are very seen as very disturbing but cannot produce a UN condemnation. Neither does a single Arab nation intervene to secure the civilian population there Meanwhile the west largely ignored the millions killed in Congo from 1999-2004.

when you tell a very big lie and you have a left wing media news source. Throw in a few anarchists, communists, welfare, Muslims, and self hating Jews. Really, easy to understand why I dont buy it ! Fair minded people will always support Israel and all Democracies that have borders with Islam

than a dead Jew. However, Jews are highly defensible, very strong, have a vibrant culture and economy, and not one Israeli could give a rats tuchus what you think.
24. why does the world target Israel
Al ,   USA   (02.21.13)
"Detractors will undoubtedly be quick to ask why supporters of Israel point to other regimes to exonerate Israel. But this is not really what I'm doing" Mr. Hafeez starts by claiming he is not exenorating Israel, yet he tries to do exactly that. Even if all what he claims about other countreis is true, it is Israel who is promoted as the beacon of democracy and civility and recieves billions of aids from the US and Germany and special trade treaties with the US and Europe and not Syria or Iran. So, if the righter wants to be taken seriouly he should be the first to protest Israels' treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank. Apartheid by any other name is still apartheid. When the minorty Jewish settler in The West Bank Rules and terrorise the majority Palestinian population and deprive them of theirbasic rihgts, that is apartheid.
25. no logical explanation
Zsolt ,   Wanganui,NZ   (02.21.13)
Anti-semitism, hatred of Israel has no logical explanation. And it has nothing to do with the Palestinians. It has much deeper, unconscious roots originating from the birth and history of the Jewish nation. Those who hate Israel and Jews most, Christians and Muslims know our Torah very well, their sacred books are founded on it. They are fully aware of our core values, and most importantly of our mission. While modern Jews, the modern nation of Israel is busy assimilating, trying to become like any other "civilized, free and democratic" western nation, we have never been and will never be "like any other nation". The nation of Israel is a collection of people from the ancient Babylon, that have no natural national roots or ties, but are tied together by a single thread, the original principles this nation was founded on, the original conditions we have received the Torah on: to become a single, united people with unbroken mutual guarantee in order to show a positive working example for the world how humanity has to unite above inherent differences and even hatred in order to survive and continue with its evolution. And we haven't been doing this positive example and although the people of the world do not know this precisely they unconsciously expect us to become more than the fathers of Hollywood, bankers, lawyers, doctors, physicists, psychologist, irrelevant how may Nobel Prizes, or Oscars it brings. And today when the world is entering an unsolvable global crisis, a total socio-economic collapse, this demand will grow to a highly pressurized level, surrounding Israel and the Jews in a very dangerous and violent way unless we take matters into our hands and start fulfilling our mission. “The genuine movement of the Israeli soul at its grandest is expressed only by its sacred, eternal force, which flows within its spirit. It is that which has made it, is making it, and will make it still a nation that stands as a light unto nations, as redemption and salvation to the entire world for its own specific purpose, and for the global purposes, which are interlinked.” (Rav Kook, Letters of the Raaiah 3, pp 194-195.)
26. It's anti-Semitism
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.21.13)
Anti-Semitism has never gone away; it simply has morphed into hatred of that most glorious symbol of Judaism -- the State of Israel. It all boils down to hatred and jealousy -- both of which are incurable diseases.
27. Make it easier and simple..
Beary White ,   Norway   (02.21.13)
Why not say the israel-hate is proportional with the islamic immigration of inhabitants in a country. Norway has gone from beeing a friend of Israel, into beeing the most hostile country, proportional with the islamic integration in this country. The imigration started in the -60, and today the number is a population of 600k. An imam in Noway, Nehmat Ali Shah, from Jamaat-e Ahl-e Sunnat, has gone out in public media/TV and blamed Israel of their influence in the world. This kind of shit is what is taught on fridays. And our leftis government seems to have have attended the mosks on fridays....
28. #5 graczek - Wrong again as usual
Carl ,   USA   (02.21.13)
Nice implied threat against the author of this article. Are you planning to issue a fatwa against Mr. Hafeez because he doesn't blindly tow the Islamic line? It is a pleasure hearing a rational, thinking Muslim voice a coherent opinion!
29. Israel is different.
Adam ,   USA   (02.21.13)
The reason people--like myself--are frustrated with Israel is because Israel is supposedly different. Only democratic state in the Middle East? Fine, but that puts you subject to a different standard. Saudi Arabia's government is a backward, deplorable regime; I expect backward and deplorable policies. Bashar in Syria is a monster; I expect monstrous policies. Israel, however, is counted among the world's democracies. I therefore expect more of Israeli practices and policies. Having a better human rights record than Syria or Saudi Arabia is not a badge of honor. It is the least a human being might expect from a modern society. There's simply nothing to brag about here.
