1. It's about time someone said he "doesn't matter"
Malone ,   Hfx   (02.21.13)
Livni won't say that for sure.
2. You have to relate to The Others.
Zechariah   (02.21.13)
You have to relate to the non jewish world there being thirteen million Jews and seven billion Gentiles . We need to engender not only respect and recognition but appreciation and affection .The Jews of Israel have something the Jews of Europe did not have weapons even the British had Spitfires and Hurricanes and the Soviets snipers t-34s and tough infantry .Abbas is important relatively moderate a proud Palestinian. Its going to have to be One country for Two people's probably Genetically related after the interim two Entities arrangement.
3. Livni will show the "true" Abu Mazen.
Rosenvald ,   BRAZIL   (02.21.13)
Let livni talk whit Mazen, and Hussein Obama will look the reality, and stop to atack Bibi. Livni never will share yerushalaim, never will go out from Jordan valey. Let Abbas run out.
4. There is not how not to agree with Bennett.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (02.21.13)
He is proposing to say( and to act )things the way they are and stop saying things the way Israel´s enemies want to listen. Who cares about what enemies want to listen? The answer is that the only ones who care are the ones who don´t believe in Israel, and the result of the policies of these ones are the weakening of Israel piece by piece, year after year. If Netanyahu believed in Israel he would had given the post of justice minister to Feiglin, for example, but no ,he is giving the post to an ill person who does not believe in Israel and who, along with Netanyahu, WILL DELIVER one more piece of land of Israel to enemies. Netanyahu betrayed Israel by making this nomination;he betrayed his own party;he betrayed the rules that declare that the party which gets more votes is the one to receive the most sensitive and important governmental posts of Israel. Netanyahu is the head member of Likud but has acted as the head of the least voted party which is Hatnua. Netanyahu is wrong and there are no excuses to say the opposite. It is wishfull thinking to think the opposite. 40 or 50 years ago Israel gave back Sinai.Today, despite of the theater played by Obama ,Morsi and Netanyhu by bringing Morsi to the border of Sinai to" make sure that the deal with Israel is being respected",despite this theater ,the fact is that the Sinai has been taken over by terrorists . 7 years ago,LIVNI along with Sharon, perpetrated something to Jewish people that can remind us about what´s is depicted in Yad Vashem, and nevertheless Israel has got rockets. Israel´s enemies declare every single day that Israel does not exist.. So,what kind of wishful, ill thinking make Netanyahu and Livni and others of the like believe that now is going to be any different? Israel has no other chance than not to fear and do exactly what is in its interest. "quello che sarà, sarà " ....
5. Arabs don't matter, we will take their land, push them out
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (02.21.13)
6. interesting points
john ,   toronto   (02.21.13)
Interesting points. Palestinian people must choose their leader also.
7. Short vision man
Ali ,   Ramallah   (02.21.13)
The one who does not correlate between peace and economy is a short vision person. Furthermore, his words about that he is only intrested about his people, add up to this.
8. Bennet is 100 % right !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (02.21.13)
He is our man !
9. Abbas Matters for Now
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (02.21.13)
Abbas Matters because the US, the EU, Russia and the rest of the world says he does. Abbas matters because Israel prefers to deal with the PLO over the Hamas. The world treats Abbas (a supporter of terrorism and holocaust denier) as a world leader and that is why he is relevant. It's naive of Bennet to say differently, however, I agree that it is important for Israel to focus on domestic issues, but Bennet does not know what it's like to be a leader, Bibi does, so for now I will pay attention to what the real leaders say and ignore what the Yoni come lately guys say.
10. What to do with Abbas ?
Lenya ,   Australia   (02.21.13)
Netanyahu keeps on legitimizing a man who spouts lies about israel every day. Recently he claimed that Netanyahu agreed to allow 150,000 "Palestinian" Syrians to return to Israel and Netanyahu vehemently denied he agreed such a thing...He is still threatening to take Israel to the ICJ with claims that Israel was still killing Palestinian children. If Hagen is causing so much distress for his past comments about Israel what does that make Abbas? Yet the US, EU, UN and Likud/Beiteinu/Hatnua still consider him a peace parttner? Very confusing to say the least.
11. Abbas-Relatively Modest ?
Lenya ,   Australia   (02.21.13)
"Abbas is important relatively moderate a proud Palestinian" That is the overstatement of the year..especially coming from a Jew with a name like yours. That is a downright erronous statement, because Abbas is the very opposite of what you and every leftist and "politically correct" politicians out their keep driveling about. Abbas denies the Holocaust, He glorifies dead terrorists, He rewards terror by paying them in Israeli prisons, He condones violence on the streets, He approves anti-Israel, anti-Jew publications in the PA and Gaza schools, He concocts blood libel s against the State of Israel..the list goes on and on and you call him relatively modest ? SHAME ON YOU!
12. Has Bibi flipped, has he lost his nerve.
Jarred Stone ,   Lodon UK   (02.21.13)
Of all people Bibi had to choose this Livni who is an abject failure. She will sell out Israel. She should NOT be in the government.God help Israel looks like these Israeli politicians certainly can't.
13. @ ali # 7
Jo B ,   Israel   (02.21.13)
you must be joking. are you seriously talking about economy and peace.... have you been to gaza or the west bank lately (not to mention every other arab country except those swimming in oil... even though most of their populations live in poverty as well)? they live in slums in poverty and they just preach and teach hate from the day their kids are born. why dont you tell their leaders first to worry about peace and their economy. your going to talk to israel about peace and the economy, look at what israel has accomplished in 64 years, the country, the infrastructure, the economy, all the while having to invest billions into its defense (TO PROTECT ITSELF) from those who wish and pray every day to destroy it. and by the way its every leaders job first and foremost to lookout for his OWN people. bennett didnt say anything negative about the arabs (unlike the arabs spew jew hate every time they open their mouths) he only said his job was to look out first and foremost for israelis.
14. Of course he's not silly...
Shush sheket   (02.21.13)
Now play along and stop being such a naughty boy Bennet. Don't you know that you are not supposed to say the truth? It doesn't serve any purpose. Get yourself into the coalition and do what has to be done for the well being of the state (shivayon ba netel, etc.). That's not the way to deal with those who panic every time they think Israel will withdraw and leave them all alone shoeless, waterless and foodless in a hostile "desert" full of Arabs who couldn't care less about them.
15. Lets reveiw the voting and call elections
Martin ,   SA   (02.21.13)
Lets reveiw and revalue our voting and call elections BB we need leaders with deeper understanding. Bennet and lapid want to keep Jerusalem but to rubbish the Jewish people because they are naïve and so mare many voters. Let give that give it a Jewish meaning. Livni doesnt give it meaning. BB take your chances. Thank you for showing support to the Haredim. We cant have Tsipi heading peace if she can hand back our diamond. Your line up options are a quandary. If it gets worse we will need to prey hard for a better result. Lets avoid desperate choices. We have arrived at the future and election strategies need to be reviewed, we need to lead the voter to vote to maintain a respectful Jewish view. Take courage from a chutsnik. It can be done. Am Yisroel Chai
16. Bennet started to play tactics with Lapid!
Jouko ,   Finland   (02.21.13)
Bennet himslef started to play tactics with Lapid instead of promoting earnestly the benefit of the people of Israel and now we see the result. The problem with Bennet is - he is lacking honest responsibility! Playing tactics will pay back soon in negative feedback. Never has a clever leader succeeded!
17. this could have been avoided if Bennet didnt love Lapid
zionist forever   (02.21.13)
Whilst even with Bennet Bibi would still have needed Livni to make up the numbers without the untrustworthy backstabber Lapid. If though Bennet hadn't decide was more interested in the people that voted for him rather than his love affair with Lapid he may have been able to intervene with deciding the ministry Livni and her party with just 6 seats got. Instead he has chosen to stick with Lapid and his policy of we are both in government or neither of us are and if we are in the religious ( Bibis only allies ) must be out. Has he has so far refused to join the coalition then he has no right to criticise Bibi because he doesn't want Livni to have the ministry she does. The only coalition thats going to last more than a year is going to be Bennet, Lapid, Livni and the religious. If we don't have that there is going to be alot of friction and if even a small party pulls out its going to bring down the government and we are going to have another round of elections. Unless we get that large mixed coalition the only legislation we are going to see pass is trivial stuff because Bibi will stay away from any issue thats going to risk one of his coalition partners pulling out ( better to be safe and do nothing than sorry & have an election ).
18. 4
zionist forever   (02.21.13)
Netanyahu is desperate, so far Livni & the religious are willing to join the coalition. If Bennet had joined when Bibi without Lapid who Bibi doesn't trust entered negotiations with him then he could have demanded that post for his party and probably would have got it. Without Bennetor Lapid unless BIBI can get Labor onboard.he cant t form a coalition and will be forced to hold new elections. If Bennet joins with Lapid it means the centre left get all the best ministries if he joins without Lapid then then he gets the best ministries and the centre left can just have the dead end ministries. Bennet is refusing to join, Livn is willing so its first come first served so Bennets refusal to dump Lapid is creating the very problem he is moaning about now. Bennet is the one who is betraying the country and the people who voted for his party not Bibi.
19. that's the way to go!
tiki ,   belgium   (02.21.13)
To see Israel's future through Israeli eyes, not Arab & Arab Palestinian eyes, whose business plan we know.
20. Bennett's remarks to his party members
Robert Haymond ,   Tekoa, Israel   (02.21.13)
help me to continue to have confidence in the man and his leadership. He is not selling out for one or two vaunted posts in government and he is willing to sit in opposition as a matter of principle. He sees clearly what Netanyahu is doing, and furthermore, what he's not doing, and refuses to play Bibi's game. Supporters such as myself are all the more strengthened by his stance.
21. #5 I'm sure its just a typo error by Ynet, but
A ,   Belgium   (02.21.13)
I'm sure what you meant to say was "Native Americans don't matter, we take their land, push them out". That IS waht you meant to say, right Benazzi?
22. Bennet is becoming increasingly hysterical and irrelevant
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.21.13)
bennet has shown himself to be hysterical and immature. he thinks that his twelve knesset seats, less than 10% of the total, make him king maker. he has alligned himself with the totally inexperienced and incompetent lapid in the hope of outfoxing bibi the king of the foxes. bennet shows no real understanding of israel's present priorities which are the existential threats facing the nations. his attacks on livni are unwarranted. her flaws are well know, but unlike bennet, she has experience in government. there is no doubt that bibi has made secret deals with her regarding the palestinian issues and iran. livni can be obnoxious but she is not a traitor.
23. #22 - Well said!
Sam ,   Kfar Saba   (02.21.13)
Bennet needs to be in the opposition, so that a broad base government can work hard for the aspirations of the majority at a critical time for the nation.
24. #9 wrong wrong wrong
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (02.21.13)
You are so wrong. US, EU and Russia said Mubarak mattered, and suddenly he was flushed down the toilet. Assad "mattered", but suddenly he represents no one. Where is Gaddaffi who "mattered"? Abbas does not matter because he represents no one but himself and his corrupt Fatah clique. Even if he wanted it to negotiate (he does not) it could not lead to peace because who ever replaces him will rightly say that Abbas did not have the right to negotiate. Israel has two choices, and neither involves the puppet Abbas. Negotiate with Hamas or negotiate with vilage elders.
25. #22, #23 a realist
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (02.21.13)
Remember how Mafdal joined Barak's government? They thought they could have influence, but they were just waterboys. That is what Bennet thinks Netanyahu wants to do with him. The only party Netanyahu attacked during the election was Jewish Home. After the elections, Netanyahu spoke to everyone (including Yehimovitch) begging they join the government, without even giving Bennet a courtesy call. Only then did Bennet make his alliance with Lapid, and only then Netanyahu called him with a bribe: be a good little donkey and take these portfolios. Bennet wanted to talk about guidelines, and Netanyahu refused. All indications are that Netanyahu wants to surrender to Abbas. Why exactly should Bennet help him?
26. New elections
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.21.13)
Perhaps more voters will come to their senses and vote Likud. Israel has far too many political parties, anyway. Israel's politics should be a serious business, not a cult of personality. Livni is useless, but she has her fan club. So does Lapid. Bennett is proving to be a major disappointment. Netanyahu needs to be prime minister. No one else knows how to put Obama in his place.
27. heap of nonsense
Marcel ,   San Jose, Costa Rica   (02.21.13)
"...I say this out of love for the haredi public, which is involuntarily sentenced to poverty and deprivation." What a heap of absolute nonsense. Since when are the haredi "involuntarily" sentenced to anything but what they bring upon themselves? This privileged cast of self-appointed zealots needs to lose its privileges.
28. LIVINI
JOHN TRAIN ,   WASHINGTON DC USA   (02.22.13)
Livini is guided by blind ambition. She is willing to undercut the security of Israel and Israel's elected government to gain political position. She urged our administration (Obama) to pressure Prime Minister Netanyahu on housing and other issues such as borders by making threats to withdraw US military support of Israel. Her funding sources are questionable. Currently, she is interested in promoting domestic turmoil in Israel which will undercut Israel's unity at the time that Israel is under extreme international . Palestinian Authority, and Arab League pressure. While all Israeli factions acknowledge Israel has many economic and social problems,Livini is uninterested in solving them but rather she wants to utilize them for her own selfish political ends. As an American participating in US policy discussions, I have observed her in action. She is dangerous and unscrupulous. Surely, Kadima and Israel can and should do much better.
